Abstract

Abstract

The UD FIT industry, situated in Bocek Village, Karangploso District, operates as a tofu factory employing modern equipment, including a fire tube boiler. The quality of feed water utilized in the boiler is essential for optimizing its efficiency. This study aimed to analyze the boiler feed water sourced from household wells at UD FIT's tofu factory, using various indicators such as turbidity, iron content, total dissolved solids (TDS), hardness, and pH levels. The test results revealed a temperature of 26°C, TDS of 253 mg/L, turbidity of 4.74 NTU, iron content of 1.123 mg/L, hardness of 180.5 mg/L, and pH of 7.89, with no detectable odor, color, or taste. Based on these findings, it is concluded that the boiler feed water utilized by UD FIT generally meet the quality standards, except for the pH parameter, which is not in accordance with the standard.

Abstract

ZnO nanoparticles can be synthesized using the biosynthesis method using corn plant leaf extract (Zea Mays L.) as a bioreductant. The aim of this research is to examine the effect of variations in Zinc Nitrate Hexahydrate precursor concentration and calcination temperature on the yield, as well as the characterization of ZnO nanoparticles. Corn plant leaves are extracted to obtain flavonoid compounds. The resulting extract is mixed with the precursor solution then calcined to obtain ZnO nanoparticles.  The highest yield was produced in a sample with a precursor concentration of 0.1M with a calcination temperature of 300˚ C of 22.6082%. SEM-EDX results on samples with a precursor concentration of 0.3 M and a calcination temperature of 700˚C show various particle morphologies and sizes of ZnO nanoparticles, namely 91 nm; 97 nm; 109 nm; 435nm; and 973 nm, and the composition of ZnO nanoparticles consists of 76.43% Zn atomic weight and 23.57% O atomic weight. at a calcination temperature of 700˚ C shows a pure ZnO sample with an element composition of 80.3% Zn atomic weight and 19.7% O atomic weight. The size of the crystal diameter for XRD analysis on samples with a precursor concentration of 0.3M with calcination temperatures of 300 ˚C and 700˚ C were 40.8564 nm and 31.7203 nm, respectively. Both samples have the same crystal system, namely hexagonal zincite.

Abstract

Electroplating industrial waste contains toxic chemicals that pose risks to health and environment, especially if they enter household wastewater systems. Therefore, treatment is necessary to reduce heavy metal content using the ion exchange method. This study utilized Amberlite IR 120Na resin as the ion exchange medium in electroplating waste. This study aims to reduce metal content in electroplating industrial wastewater using the ion exchange method by evaluating the effects of resin height and flow rate. The process was conducted with variations in flow rate (100 ml/min, 200 ml/min, 300 ml/min, 400 ml/min, 500 ml/min) and resin height (3 cm, 6 cm, 9 cm, 12 cm, 15 cm). The waste was passed through the ion exchange column, and the remaining Cu and Cr metal concentrations were measured. The results indicated that the optimal conditions occurred at a flow rate of 100 ml/min and a resin height of 15 cm, achieving a reduction of Cu metal by 90.16% and Cr metal by 83.36%. The Cu concentration after the process met quality standards under all conditions, while the Cr concentration met quality standards at resin heights of 12 cm and 15 cm. The ion exchange method proved effective in reducing heavy metal pollution.
