Abstract

Language shift means replacing one language to another as a communication tool within a community. This study intends to investigate the factors that cause language shift among Acehnese and its impact to the young generations of Acehnese language users. The study reveals that there are two factors causing a shift in Acehnese language, namely: the external factors (i.e., culture, economy, and inter-generational transfer) and (2) internal factors (i.e, language attitude and language ability). In addition to the impact of language use, the study points out that although most of the Acehnese people are able to speak their own community language, their children are rapidly losing their language.

Abstract

This research discusses the concept of character building and the role of character building in developing students' attitudes in schools. The concept of character building encompasses values, attitudes, and positive behaviors that are the primary focus of developing good personality traits in individuals. Character building is based on the idea that character can be taught, learned, and applied in daily life. This concept is also supported by the moral philosophy introduced by Al-Ghazali and Ibn Maskawaih, emphasizing the importance of moral education in shaping good character. Furthermore, the research method employed in this study includes a literature review and content analysis. Some data were collected from various sources related to the concept of character building and the role of character building in developing students' attitudes in a madrasah (school). The data were analyzed descriptively to explore the relationships between these concepts and their implications in the context of education in madrasahs. The findings of the research indicate that character building plays a crucial role in developing students' attitudes in madrasahs. By integrating character concepts from Lickona with moral concepts from Al-Ghazali and Ibn Maskawaih, madrasahs can shape a generation with character and noble morals in accordance with Islamic teachings. The implications of this research suggest that character building needs to be a primary focus in madrasah education to mold individuals who are ethical, responsible, and beneficial to religion, society, and the nation.

Abstract

This article is a comprehensive summary of the fundamental components of quantitative research design, specifically designed to cater to researchers who are new to the field. Quantitative research is a methodical and structured technique of investigation that utilizes numerical data and statistical analysis in order to address research inquiries and evaluate hypotheses. Although it may appear intimidating to individuals who are new to the field, this summary provides an overview of the essential stages and factors necessary to commence a profitable quantitative research endeavor. The writing commences by highlighting the significance of a precisely formulated research inquiry and hypothesis, underscoring the necessity for lucidity and precision. This emphasizes the relevance of doing a comprehensive literature evaluation to inform the design of the study and the value of choosing a suitable research methodology. For those who are new to the field, this frequently entails the utilization of surveys, experiments, or the examination of pre-existing datasets. The subsequent section delineates the essential components of study design, encompassing the formulation of a research plan, the creation of data gathering tools, and the utilization of sampling methodologies. The importance of ethical issues and the acquisition of informed permission from participants is underscored. The significance of conducting pilot tests on the research instruments to establish their validity and reliability is also emphasized in the research or study. In conclusion, this writing offers novice researchers a succinct outline of the fundamental elements comprising quantitative research design. This resource provides a valuable foundation for individuals initiating quantitative research endeavors, providing assistance in navigating the essential stages and factors involved in undertaking substantial and methodical research.
