Abstract

Background: The social media has become the means for adolescents to interact with others, however, it may also be the means to several negative activities such as cyberbullying. These issue are important as it affecting adolescent’s health and there is a growing literature about these topics. Aim: This study aims to gather and analyze articles related to the influence of social media on cyberbullying in adolescents. Method: A literature search for articles published since the last  5 years from three databases, namely: Google Scholar, Portal Garuda, and DOAJ was conducted. A total of 1582 articles were screened and three articles were chosen following the PRISMA flowchart guidelines. Results: The literature show that social media effecting cyberbullying among adolescents, especially on Facebook. Conclusion: Social media influence cyberbullying, and teenagers who use social media more often will be more at risk of cyberbullying. Inititatives to improve adolescent health outcomes by learning positive usage of social media needs to be established. Further research related to efforts to reduce cyberbullying also needs to be done.

Abstract

Errors in determining triage criteria can endanger patient safety so the cause must be addressed. But it is not yet known the accuracy of triage and the cause of mistriage. This study aims to identify the accuracy of the level of gravity of the Emergency Severity Index (ESI) triage system and evaluate the causes of mistriage in the Emergency Department (ED). Descriptive research with the retrospective review was conducted for 20 days which were randomly selected between January 1st and December 31st, 2021 at a hospital in Jakarta. A total of 199 randomly selected ESI triage documentation from medical records and a self-developed triage precision observation sheet consisting of 17 items were given to three experts to examine the accuracy of the triage and the cause of the mistriage. The frequency distribution found the triage accuracy reach 124 (62,3%) triage documents, and the leading cause of mistriage is an error in applying the main complaint 32 (42,7%). ED nurses should improve their skills in determining triage levels. Hospital institutions should make efforts to improve the triage skills of ED nurses and for further research on methods to increase the accuracy of the triage.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of music therapy on reducing anxiety in pre-cardiac catheterization patients. The method used is quantitative with a quasi-experimental design. The data collection technique uses an anxiety questionnaire, namely HARS (Hamilton Rating Scale). The data analysis technique uses paired sample t-test. The results of the study showed that there was an effect of music therapy on reducing anxiety in pre-cardiac catheterization patients (p<0.05), where this was indicated by a significant difference in anxiety scores before and after giving music therapy. In conclusion, there is an effect of providing music therapy on reducing anxiety in pre-cardiac catheterization patients. Keywords: Anxiety, Cardiac Catheterization, Music Therapy.

Abstract

Stakeholders’ role to support evidence-based practice (EBP) and enhance the use of information and communication technology (ICT) for EBP is essential. However, how EBP is supported and how ICT is utilized in health care providers is unknown. Aim: This study aims to explore stakeholders’ insights regarding the implementation of EBP and the use of ICT. A qualitative study with the semi-structured face-to-face interview was used to obtain the aim. Using purposive sampling, eleven management representatives from public and private hospitals, clinics, and health offices in Depok city, Indonesia were asked about EBP and ICT. Data were recorded, transcribed, and analyzed thematically. Five themes emerged from this study. EBP services availability and accessibility showed ICT sources were adequate, but still need improvement in the library and Education and Training Department (ETD); Healthcare workforce represented doctors and nurses who hardly generate research although permitted by the stakeholders; Health information systems such as clinical cases forums in hospitals were established, but current evidence was rarely discussed; Funding for research and training related to EBP were not allocated; Leadership and governance showed there were limited policies on EBP and clinical instructors available in hospitals but focused on supporting training and student practices. Although EBP implementation needs improvement, the stakeholders in this study mostly support EBP and enable ICT for EBP purposes. Advocacy on policy and resource arrangements is urged to support information initiatives.

Abstract

Background:  Empathy plays an essential role in older adult care and patient wellness, by strengthening healthcare quality and the nurse-patient relationship. This study evaluated the effectiveness of Carl Rogers-based empathy training in improving the capacity of empathy among nurses, particularly in caring for older adult patients and wellness. Methods: A quasi-experimental pre- and post-test design was conducted in October 2024 at Bekasi Regency Hospital, Indonesia. Nurses from inpatient and outpatient units were selected through purposive sampling. Empathy was assessed using the Interpersonal Reactivity Index (IRI) before and after a three-day training program. The analysis included overall empathy scores and four subdimensions: Empathic Concern (EC), Perspective Taking (PT), Fantasy Scale (FS), and Personal Distress (PD). Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon signed-rank test and effect size calculations. Results: The mean total empathy score slightly decreased from 47.91±7.4 to 46.14±2.6 (p=0.190, r=0.22). However, significant improvements were observed in EC (p=0.004, r=0.51) and FS (p=0.007, r=0.42), whereas PD decreased significantly (p=0.001, r=0.61). No significant change was found in PT (p=0.457, r=0.12).  Conclusion: Short-term empathy training effectively enhances emotional dimensions of empathy, such as empathic concern and fantasy scale, while reducing personal distress. However, it does not significantly improve overall empathy scores. Long-term training, reinforcement strategies, and cognitive-based interventions may be needed to support sustained empathy developments in nursing care for older adults and patient wellness.
