Abstract

Background: Intellectual disability is one of the developmental disorders that showing a delay in self-care skills that need to decrease the physical dependence of children to adults. Children with moderate intellectual disability could show diffe­rences in developmental and level of self-care skills that affected of few factors. The aim of the study is to explore the self-care skills of children with moderate intellectual disability on feeding, dres­sing, toileting, and self-hygiene, and factors that affect these skills.Subjects and Method: This was a qua­lita­tive stu­dy with case study ap­proach. A total of five sub­jects with moderate intellectual disability aged 7-12 years was selected for this study. The data were collected from eleven parents and teachers by interview. All data were analyzed by content analysis.Results: All five subjects have different levels of each of the self-care skills and get help from teachers or parents in some of these activities. The amount of help is influenced by internal fac­tors such as physical and motor problems as indi­ca­ted by observations of subject 2. External fac­tors that are found are parental roles, self-care practicing methods, and differences in parent attitudes. Behavioral problems factor such as aggressive, self-harm, and social withdrawal was not found. Self-care programs and the coordi­nation of parents and school as external factors were only found in subject 2 and 4.Conclusion: All five subjects showed varying abilities of the self-care skills and internal and external factors that affect these skills.Keywords: moderate intellectual disability, self-care skills, factorsCorrespondence: Heni Gerda Pesau. Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic has caused many changes in various aspects of people's lives. The changes caused psychological problems, one of which is stress. Stress conditions experienced by individuals need to be handled so as not to prolong or cause other psychological symptoms. One of the interventions that can be done in the midst of a pandemic is online psychoeducation. Based on this, the target of online psychoeducation carried out was the general public who were willing to become participants. The goal of online psychoeducation activities was to increase participants' knowledge of stress conditions and techniques that can be used to relieve stress. Psychoeducation was given in two methods, namely interactive lectures that discussed stress recognition and modeling techniques related to stress relief techniques. The results of the evaluation of the activities showed that more than 50% of participants gave positive responses to the material presented and the participants' expectations were achieved after participating in online psycho education. Thus it can be concluded that providing online psychoeducation could provide knowledge related to stress conditions experienced and techniques that can be applied to relieve stress experienced during the current COVID-19 pandemic. Abstract

Changes from traditional face-to-face to internet-delivered psychological assessment are urgently needed giventhe long-lasting pandemic, the general need for fast and efficient tests and test procedures, and easier availabilityand access for test-takers in remote settings. We used a quasi-experimental non-randomized group design for thecomparison of two word fluency test procedures: one traditional that is face-to-face (n = 30) and one supervisedvia internet (n = 30). Participants were 17-31 years, education level high school and Bachelor. The letters S, K, Twere used for the phonemic fluency test, for the emotion word fluency test subjects had to generate words relatedto subjective emotional feelings or the expression of emotions. The results showed that traditional administeredand internet-delivered testing are equivalent (our hypothesis) as seen from the absence of significant differencesbetween the two groups in the performances of all four word fluency tests (p > .05) and small effect sizes (Cohen’sd range < .5). Significant correlations were found between the fluency tasks, irrespective of the way of testadministration (p < .05). It can be concluded that the word fluency tasks can be assessed by supervised internet-delivered testing, but this is limited to a sample of young adults.

Abstract

A cognitive assessment is not complete without an inspection of a client’s emotional status. The Emotion Word Fluency Test (EWFT) is a newly developed instrument for Indonesia. It provides similar assessment to other semantic word fluency tasks, linguistic and memory skills, and also a client’s current emotional standing and previously experienced emotions. Our study aims to present the newly-developed EWFT and its scoring system, and the psychometric properties of the test including its test-retest reliability and construct validity, as well as the reliability of the scoring system. Healthy participants with no history of brain-related diseases (n = 98), varying in age and education, were recruited; an additional group (n = 30) was included in the test-retest reliability study. The construct validity was evaluated with a phonemic verbal fluency test (pVFT). The EWFT was correlated (.51-.56) with the pVFT, and the three subscales of the pVFT correlated highly (.75-.80), indicating that the EWFT and pVFT share a common construct, but are also different. The scoring system showed excellent reliability (.86 for the number of correct generated words), and the test-retest reliability for the number of correct words was moderate (.54). Participants produced more negative than positive emotion words, t(29) = 6.33, p < .05. The correlation between the number of positive and negative emotion words was zero. Age affected the performance in both EWFT, F(3, 80) = 3.10, p < .05; and pVFT F(3, 80) = 2.47, p < .05; as was internationally reported. The EWFT scoring system is concluded reliable and the test has moderate reliability.

Abstract

Changes in interest about appearance and social roles made women in early adulthood begin to feel anxious about living in a new environment and trigger the possibility of experiencing objectification from others. Women who internalize this objectification will experience self-objectification which can cause body shame when their body does not meet the ideal beauty standards. This research aims to analyze the relationship between self-objectification and body shame of women in early adulthood. This study involved 150 women in early adulthood aged 20 to 30 years and domiciled in Makassar City. This research used quantitative methods with self-objectification and body shame scales as research measurement tools and analyzed by Pearson Product Moment. The result of this research showed a significance value of 0.000 and a correlation value of 0.297, which means that there is a positive relationship between self-objectification and body shame of women in early adulthood. Abstract

Perkembangan anak merupakan salah satu isu yang membutuhkan perhatian besar. Berbagai keterampilan hidup mulai dilatih dan dikembangkan, salah satunya kemampuan mengelola emosi. Kemampuan mengelola emosi merupakan kemampuan mengelola berbagai pengalaman emosi agar individu dapat menghasilkan perilaku adaptif. Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat yang dilakukan bertujuan meningkatkan kemampuan mengelola emosi pada siswa di salah satu sekolah dasar di Makassar. Pengabdian kepada masyarakat dilakukan untuk memenuhi kebutuhan mitra dan dalam rangka pecegahan masalah kesehatan mental. Peningkatan kemampuan mengelola emosi siswa dilakukan melalui kegiatan psikoedukasi yaitu salah satu metode untuk melatih individu mempelajari aneka life skills; agar dapat mengembangkan keterampilan hidup yang dilakukan dengan berbasis kelompok. Psikoedukasi dilakukan pada tanggal 30 Maret 2023 dan diikuti oleh 38 siswa yang didampingi oleh guru kelas. Berdasarkan hasil pelaksanaan kegiatan, diketahui psikoedukasi dapat membantu peserta memahami pentingnya kemampuan mengelola emosi serta teknik-teknik mengelola emosi yang langsung dipraktikkan peserta selama kegiatan. Adapun beberapa hal yang dapat dilakukan bagi pelaksana PkM selanjutnya yaitu menggunakan media yang dapat mendukung efektivitas psikoedukasi serta menyediakan psikoedukasi yang dapat membahas topik lain yang juga dibutuhkan mitra.

Abstract

Tujuan dari kegiatan ini adalah sebagai bentuk pelayanan terhadap masyarakat, dalam hal ini adalah pegawai panti asuhan agar memahami konsep dan pentingnya kesejahteraan psikologis. Peserta psikoedukasi juga diberikan informasi mengenai hal-hal yang dapat dilakukan untuk meningkatkan kesejahteraan psikologis serta memberikan penjelasan peran kesejahteraan psikologis dalam menjalankan kehidupan sehari-hari khususnya dalam pekerjaan. Materi yang diberikan dalam psikoedukasi ini adalah dimensi-dimensi kesejahteraan psikologi sebagai pembentuk kesejahteraan psikologis setiap individu. Materi diberikan dengan metode ceramah, tanya jawab, diskusi, sharing session, simulasi serta games. Peserta psikoedukasi berjumlah tujuh pegawai dari dua panti asuhan yang ditetapkan. Evaluasi kegiatan dilakukan untuk mengetahui reaksi peserta terhadap pelaksanaan kegiatan dan mengukur peningkatan pemahaman pada materi serta mengukur peningkatan kesejahteraan psikologis. Hasil evaluasi menunjukkan peserta puas mengikuti kegiatan dan mereka menyarankan untuk mengadakan kegiatan yang sama di masa mendatang. Hasil evaluasi juga menunjukkan peningkatan pemahaman peserta terhadap materi mengenai kesejahteraan psikologis dan dimensi-dimensinya. Hasil pengukuran kesejahteraan psikologis menunjukkan adanya peningkatan setelah psikoedukasi, artinya pemberian psikoedukasi efektif meningkatkan kesejahteraan psikologis pegawai panti asuhan.

Abstract

Remaja merupakan tahap perkembangan yang ditandai dengan masa pencarian identitas sehingga rentan mengalami ketidakstabilan baik emosi maupun perilaku, serta berbagai peristiwa yang dapat memicu remaja mengalami distres. Distres membuat individu merasa tidak nyaman dan dapat mengganggu kemampuan belajar, memori, dan mood; serta masalah kesehatan mental lainnya. Berdasarkan hal tersebut, maka dibutuhkan upaya untuk meningkatkan kemampuan remaja dalam mengelola distres dengan psikoedukasi meditasi mindfullness. Kegiatan dilakukan pada tanggal 30 Juli 2024 dengan metode psikoedukasi melalui ceramah interaktif dan pemeragaan yang diikuti oleh 188 remaja berusia 14 dan 15 tahun di salah satu SMA di Kota Makassar. Hasil evaluasi menunjukkan kegiatan psikoedukasi dapat berjalan dengan baik dan efektif dapat dilihat dari perubahan pengetahuan dan keterampilan peserta terkait distress pada remaja dan meditasi mindfulness sebagai salah satu cara mengatasi distress yang dirasakan serta adanya pernyataan kepuasan dan respon positif dari peserta serta sekolah sebagai mitra pelaksanaan kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat

Abstract

Mental health issues are getting important attention nowadays. Mental health problems can be experienced by all ages including generation Z (gen Z). Gen Z is a generation born in 1997-2012. Various problems experienced by Gen Z can trigger feelings of anxiety, depression, and stress or can be called negative emotional states. Gen Z who grew up in an era of rapid technological development, as well as various negative life events are considered vulnerable to experiencing negative emotional conditions. This study aims to analyze the description of the negative emotional conditions of Gen Z through the DASS-21. The research participants were 12-26 years old, male and female, who lived in Makassar. The study used a descriptive quantitative method. The results showed that 36.6% were in the high category, with moderate to severe severity, namely stress at 34.2%, depression at 32.2%, and anxiety at 46.5%. The results of the study indicate the need for intervention that can be started by identifying the causes of negative emotions felt by Gen Z.
