Abstract

The growing awareness of climate change and environmental issues has led to the rise of green consumerism and heightened global environmental concerns. As individuals become more mindful of their role in preserving the environment, green consumerism has gained significant traction. This research is distinctive in its integration of Islamic religiosity and environmental concern as additional factors within the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB), a widely established framework in behavioral studies. Using a quantitative approach, the study investigates the factors shaping sustainable behavior among Muslim academics in Indonesia, with an emphasis on expanding the TPB by incorporating two new variables: religiosity and environmental concern. The results highlight a discrepancy between attitudes and behaviors, particularly in relation to green purchasing patterns. These findings contribute to the development of the TPB, enhancing its explanatory power by including religious and environmental concerns as key determinants of sustainable consumption behavior.

Abstract

Islamic banking management is the most rapidly developing part of the Islamic financial system. The significant market share gap between the management of the Islamic banking industry and the real sector (the halal tourism industry) represents a current challenge. Islamic banking management should recognize the opportunities for developing this halal tourism industry and working together in tandem. The halal tourism industry has enormous potential for development. Innovation must be carried out by Islamic financial institutions, especially Islamic banking. In the current digital era, halal tourism industry players and tourists prioritize everything that is practical. The development and improvement of sustainable halal tourism in a country is very important, because the existence of well-maintained and organized halal tourism industry destinations and supported by a strong financial sector will increasingly attract tourists, both domestic and international. The method used in this study is a literature review approach, namely research with a series of activities related to library data collection methods, reading and recording, and processing research materials. From the results of the literature search, it can be seen that Islamic banking management needs to increase branch office access and digital networks in tourist destination areas so that they are easily accessible to tourists. Several other strategies that can be implemented include collaboration with tour and travel companies that will issue tourism products with halal labels, to financially use Islamic banking.

Abstract

Islamic tourism has emerged as a significant domain within global tourism scholarship, reflecting the growing mobility of Muslim travellers and the increasing salience of religion in destination development. This study conducts a bibliometric analysis of Islamic tourism research related to Malaysia and Thailand over 30 years (1995–2025). Using a dataset of 420 publications, the analysis examines longitudinal publication trends, author productivity, institutional affiliations, collaborative patterns, thematic evolution, and citation impact. The findings reveal an exponential growth in research output after 2010, with Malaysia accounting for the largest share of publications due to its Muslim majority context and established halal governance infrastructure, while Thailand’s research—though smaller in volume—demonstrates comparatively higher citation impact, reflecting scholarly interest in Muslim minority tourism settings. The analysis further identifies a concentration of knowledge production among a limited group of authors and institutions, alongside uneven international collaboration. Thematically, Islamic tourism scholarship has shifted from conceptual and definitional concerns toward service quality, halal governance, policy frameworks, and cultural adaptation. By systematically mapping the intellectual structure of Islamic tourism research across two contrasting national contexts, this study advances understanding of how religious tourism knowledge is produced, institutionalised, and diffused. The findings provide evidence-based implications for future research agendas, destination policy, and the theoretical positioning of Islamic tourism within tourism and religious studies.
