Abstract

This study aims to identify the opportunities and challenges in developing halal food offerings for Muslim tourists in Tana Toraja, Indonesia, an area predominantly inhabited by a non-Muslim population. The primary challenges identified include a limited supply of halal raw materials, the region's image as a halal tourism destination, and a lack of awareness regarding the importance of halal certification among the local community. This qualitative study employs a case study approach, utilizing data collected through interviews, observations, and documentation from key players in the halal culinary industry in Toraja. The data were analyzed using NVivo 12 Plus, with features such as Crosstab Query and Word Cloud for data presentation. The findings reveal significant opportunities in the halal food market, driven by growing demand from Muslim tourists, menu diversification, and advancements in technology and e-commerce, which facilitate the promotion of halal products. Despite the challenges, the development of halal food offerings in Toraja can contribute to sustainable tourism through increased public awareness and collaboration between the government and the business sector, alongside halal training and certification for industry players. This study provides recommendations for the strategic development of the halal food industry as a key component of halal tourism potential in Toraja.

Abstract

The growing awareness of climate change and environmental issues has led to the rise of green consumerism and heightened global environmental concerns. As individuals become more mindful of their role in preserving the environment, green consumerism has gained significant traction. This research is distinctive in its integration of Islamic religiosity and environmental concern as additional factors within the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB), a widely established framework in behavioral studies. Using a quantitative approach, the study investigates the factors shaping sustainable behavior among Muslim academics in Indonesia, with an emphasis on expanding the TPB by incorporating two new variables: religiosity and environmental concern. The results highlight a discrepancy between attitudes and behaviors, particularly in relation to green purchasing patterns. These findings contribute to the development of the TPB, enhancing its explanatory power by including religious and environmental concerns as key determinants of sustainable consumption behavior.

Abstract

Islamic banking management is the most rapidly developing part of the Islamic financial system. The significant market share gap between the management of the Islamic banking industry and the real sector (the halal tourism industry) represents a current challenge. Islamic banking management should recognize the opportunities for developing this halal tourism industry and working together in tandem. The halal tourism industry has enormous potential for development. Innovation must be carried out by Islamic financial institutions, especially Islamic banking. In the current digital era, halal tourism industry players and tourists prioritize everything that is practical. The development and improvement of sustainable halal tourism in a country is very important, because the existence of well-maintained and organized halal tourism industry destinations and supported by a strong financial sector will increasingly attract tourists, both domestic and international. The method used in this study is a literature review approach, namely research with a series of activities related to library data collection methods, reading and recording, and processing research materials. From the results of the literature search, it can be seen that Islamic banking management needs to increase branch office access and digital networks in tourist destination areas so that they are easily accessible to tourists. Several other strategies that can be implemented include collaboration with tour and travel companies that will issue tourism products with halal labels, to financially use Islamic banking.
