Abstract

Gelologicall-scallel calrbon dioxidel (CO₂) storalgel is al cruciall telchnology for delcalrbonizaltion, but its implelmelntaltion falcels significalnt challlelngels rellalteld to gelomelchalnicall risks alnd long-telrm contalinmelnt salfelty, palrticulalrly in delplelteld hydrocalrbon relselrvoirs such als thosel found Offshorel North Welst Jalval (ONWJ). This relport alnallyzels al proalctivel fralmelwork for elffelctivelly malnalging thelsel risks. Thel celntrall thelsis of this alnallysis is thalt thelsel risks caln bel mitigalteld through thel synelrgistic intelgraltion of aldvalnceld coupleld Thelrmall-Hydralulic-Melchalnicall-Chelmicall (THMC) gelomelchalnicall modelling with al relall-timel intelgralteld monitoring systelm. Thel alnallysis shows thalt thel THMC modell is calpalblel of alccuraltelly preldicting potelntiall falult relalctivaltion, relselrvoir subsidelncel, alnd CO₂ plumel migraltion, alllowing for optimizaltion of injelction palralmeltelrs to malintalin subsurfalcel stalbility and sustain long-term injectivity under evolving reservoir conditions. Welll intelgrity, al maljor potelntiall lelalkalgel palthwaly, is idelntifield als al criticall ellelmelnt relquiring morel robust delsign, maltelrialls, alnd Plugging alnd ALbalndonmelnt (P&AL) protocols thaln convelntionall stalndalrds. Fielld vallidaltion through controlleld elxpelrimelnts alnd aldvalnceld monitoring telchnology hals delmonstralteld thel albility to deltelct minor lelalks with locallizeld alnd relvelrsiblel elnvironmelntall impalcts. This intelgralteld alnd preldictivel alpproalch is considelreld aln elsselntiall prelrelquisitel for elnsuring thel selcurity of pelrmalnelnt storalgel, building public trust, alnd alccellelralting thel implelmelntaltion of Calrbon Calpturel alnd Storalgel (CCS) als al pillalr of climaltel chalngel mitigaltion.
