Abstract

Science is something commonly used worldwide and especially in the field of education. Suitable with teaching methods, science will be transferred to the students by the teachers. The need for better results on the educational system and educational evaluation in Indonesia requires a good quality of the educators of course in this phenomenon is the teachers. The professional teacher's personality is a combination of who the teacher is and the teachers are as educators. It means that teachers' capabilities and mindsets will affect the transfer of science to the students. The priority of this target is to get information about the value of English teachers in the Islamic Elementary School of Madrasah Ibtidaiyah Pekanbaru (n=6), which teaches at five schools in Pekanbaru. The questionnaire and observation were given by representing the profile of the teachers, including educator requirements, teachers’ competence, professional graduation, and the teachers’ attitude. And how well the English teachers have the component to transfer knowledge and guide the students to learn English, as we know well that English is a communication language. This survey aims to determine how teachers meet the standards set out in UU No. 14 of 2005 for the Teaching Profession.

Abstract

This study investigates the internal and external constraints faced by law students at the Islamic University of Riau in developing their English speaking skills. Employing a descriptive qualitative approach, data were collected through questionnaires administered to 37 students enrolled in the English for Law Students course during the 2023/2024 academic year. The findings reveal that internal barriers, particularly speaking anxiety (68%) and fear of making mistakes (62%), significantly hinder students’ oral proficiency. Externally, insufficient opportunities for speaking practice (62%) and learning materials that lack relevance to legal contexts (57%) also contribute to the challenges encountered. The study underscores the necessity for psychological support and pedagogical adjustments, recommending communicative and context-based teaching methods tailored to legal English. Such interventions aim to enhance students' confidence and speaking performance, preparing them for the demands of the global legal profession. This research highlights the multidimensional nature of language learning obstacles and calls for integrated strategies addressing both affective and contextual factors. Abstract

The Community Service Program (PKM) aimed to enhance the critical awareness of Madrasah Aliyah students through critical reading strategies using narrative texts. The activity was conducted on February 25, 2025, at MA Diniyah Puteri Pekanbaru and involved 25 tenth-grade students. Students were divided into five small groups and analyzed a narrative text titled "Si Kancil yang Selalu Ingat Tuhan" using worksheets prepared by the PKM team. The program was implemented in three stages: preparation, implementation, and evaluation. Questionnaire results indicated that 92% of students felt the activity helped them better understand the text, and 88% stated they became more accustomed to questioning what they read. The activity was considered engaging and encouraged active participation, effectively fostering students' critical thinking skills. This critical reading strategy using narrative texts can serve as an alternative approach to literacy learning in Islamic senior high schools.

Abstract

The education paradigm has now changed from teacher-centred to student-centred, and media technology has become a current issue that needs to be interested. The objective of the present study is to investigate the utilization of YouTube media as a learning material for teaching Intensive Reading skills, as well as to determine the impact on students' learning attitudes. YouTube is used to acquire new knowledge and information and help complete the learning material, particularly in delivering technical matters. Besides, YouTube also provides a variety wide range of aspects with unlimited content. Thus, It can cultivate students’ autonomous learning capability. Students who are capable of autonomous learning can set their goals, create a study plan, choose skills and methods to be used, monitor their acquisition, and evaluate what they have learned.  This study offered a case studies research design. The case study is based on autonomous learning used in this study. Autonomous learning is an innovative concept that adheres to the advantages of online teaching-learning using YouTube to deliver learning material media. The questionnaire was distributed to 78 students involved in the intensive reading classes to obtain the data. A statistical assessment of the analysis data shows that autonomous learning of intensive reading classes using YouTube positively impacts students' learning attitudes. In other wordss, YouTube application is a learning alternative that allows students to manage the learning process through independence, self-exploration and freedom of learning to achieve optimal learning results.

Abstract

Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk Pengenalan Konsep Autonomous Learning dalam Peningkatan Kompetensi Berbahasa Asing di Tingkat SMA (SMA IT Imam As-Syafii 2 Pekanbaru). Melalui Autonomous Learning, diharapkan peserta didik mampu secara mandiri meningkatkan Kompetensi Berbahasa Asing khususnya Bahasa Inggris. Kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat ini dilaksanakan di SMA IT Imam As-Syafii 2 Pekanbaru dengan peserta siswa X Putri SMA IT Imam As-Syafii 2 Pekanbaru. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan bahwa sebagian besar siswa masih belum terbiasa dengan pola belajar mandiri dan masih sangat memerlukan instruksi guru. Beberapa hambatan utama yang dihadapi antara lain masih kurangnya motivasi, adanya keterbatasan akses terhadap materi, masih minimnya dukungan lingkungan, serta belum tersedianya sistem pendampingan yang efektif. Meski demikian, respon siswa terhadap pengenalan konsep ini cukup positif, dan mereka menunjukkan antusiasme untuk mencoba strategi belajar mandiri yang diperkenalkan. Kegiatan ini diharapkan menjadi langkah awal dalam membangun budaya belajar mandiri yang berkelanjutan di lingkungan sekolah, serta mendorong pihak sekolah dan guru untuk menciptakan atmosphere yang mendukung pembelajaran otonomi dalam penguasaan bahasa asing.
