Abstract

Subjective well-being is a critical metric for assessing quality of life, particularly among students residing in Islamic boarding schools. It encompasses both life satisfaction and emotional experiences, serving as a vital indicator of positive mental health. This study aimed to examine the impact of optimism on students' subjective well-being. A quantitative research methodology was employed, involving 93 students aged 13 to 17 years from Islamic boarding schools. Data were collected using scales measuring optimism and subjective well-being. The analysis was conducted using simple linear regression, supplemented by assumption tests, including normality and linearity assessments. The results indicated a significant effect of optimism on subjective well-being, with a p-value of 0.000 (p < 0.01). These findings suggest that optimism exerts a highly significant influence on the subjective well-being of students in Islamic boarding schools.

Abstract

Burnout is a critical psychological phenomenon among employees, characterized by emotional exhaustion, reduced motivation, and diminished professional efficacy. This study aims to examine the predictive role of self-efficacy and hope on employee burnout. Using a quantitative approach with an ex post facto design, data were collected from 150 employees in Central Java, Indonesia, selected through multistage random sampling followed by purposive sampling. Measurement instruments included the Burnout Inventory (0,911), General Self-Efficacy Scale (0,887), dan Hope Scale (0,90), all of which demonstrated high reliability. Data were analyzed using multiple regression with SPSS. The results revealed that both self-efficacy and hope significantly predicted burnout, explaining 69.3% of the variance. Employees with higher self-efficacy tended to adopt adaptive coping strategies and were less vulnerable to emotional exhaustion, while those with higher levels of hope maintained stronger motivation and engagement despite work pressures. These findings highlight the importance of fostering psychological resources such as self-efficacy and hope to protect employees from burnout. Organizations are recommended to design psychological interventions and workplace policies to enhance employee resilience. Future research should expand the scope by incorporating other psychosocial variables and diverse organizational contexts to strengthen generalizability.

Abstract

Resilience is the ability to bounce back positively when faced with stressful conditions. Resilience problems are very likely to arise in early adolescents because they are considered emotionally immature and are very easily affected by changes in their social environment. This study aims to examine the relationship between social support and resilience in early adolescents with subjects of 160 students from a junior high school in Indonesia, obtained by random sampling. Two questionnaires using a Likert scale were used to collect data, namely social support (Cronbach's alpha = 0.879) and resilience (Cronbach's alpha = 0.854). The validity test uses the product moment correlation technique, while the reliability test uses Cronbach's alpha. The data analysis technique uses product moment correlation, which shows rcount > rtable (0.498 > 0.159), so there is a significant relationship between social support and resilience in students. This shows that there is a strong relationship between social support and resilience in students.

Abstract

The integration of digital technology in the teaching profession exposes educators to an intense flow of information, increasing their vulnerability to Fear of Missing Out (FoMO). Although FoMO has been extensively studied globally, research focusing on teachers particularly in Indonesia, where digital engagement is high remains very limited. This study aims to adapt and validate the Fear of Missing Out Scale (FoMOS) for the context of Indonesian teachers by examining its psychometric properties. A quantitative approach was employed, including content validation by experts (VI = 1), readability testing (VI = 1), and data collection from 68 vocational high school teachers using purposive sampling. Structural validity was analyzed using Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA). Results indicated a high KMO value (0.845), a three-factor structure with factor loadings ranging from 0.585 to 0.818, and strong reliability (0.973). Overall, this adapted FoMOS is both valid and reliable for measuring FoMO among Indonesian teachers.

Abstract

The rapid growth of smartphone use offers many benefits but also raises risks of problematic smartphone use (PSU), which negatively affects psychological well-being, job performance, and social interaction. While prior research has largely focused on adolescents and university students, studies on teachers remain limited. To address this gap, the present study examined the effects of fear of missing out (FoMO), loneliness, emotion regulation, and academic burnout on PSU among vocational high school teachers in Bekasi Regency, Indonesia. Using a quantitative ex-post facto design, data were collected from 132 teachers selected through multistage random sampling. Instruments (SAS-SV, FoMO Scale, UCLA Loneliness Scale, ERQ, Academic Burnout Scale) demonstrated excellent validity and reliability (α = 0.923–0.973). Multiple regression analysis indicated a significant effect (F = 6.491; p < 0.001) with R² = 47%. Findings highlight the importance of digital well-being programs through adaptive emotional regulation, workload management, and healthy technology use. Keywords: academic burnout, emotion regulation, FoMO, problematic smartphone use, vocational high school teachers

Abstract

Professional quality of life (ProQOL) is a critical indicator of psychological well-being among special education teachers, particularly given the emotional and instructional demands of teaching students with special needs. Coping strategies represent an important mechanism for managing occupational stress; however, empirical evidence examining how distinct coping strategies relate to multiple dimensions of ProQOL among special education teachers—especially in non-Western educational contexts—remains limited. To address this gap, this study aimed to examine the differential effects of problem-focused, emotion-focused, and avoidant coping strategies on compassion satisfaction, burnout, and secondary traumatic stress among Indonesian special education teachers. This study employed a quantitative, cross-sectional design with 147 teachers working in special schools in the Bekasi area. Coping strategies were assessed using the 28-item Brief COPE Inventory, while professional quality of life was measured using the 30-item Professional Quality of Life Scale (ProQOL-5). Confirmatory factor analysis was conducted to establish construct validity, and multivariate regression analysis using Mplus 7 was performed to test the proposed relationships. The results indicated that problem-focused and emotion-focused coping were positively associated with compassion satisfaction and negatively associated with burnout, whereas avoidant coping was positively associated with secondary traumatic stress. These findings demonstrate that coping strategies exert differentiated effects across ProQOL dimensions rather than uniform influences, highlighting the importance of adaptive coping in sustaining teachers’ professional well-being. By extending ProQOL research beyond healthcare professions and situating it within the context of special education in Indonesia, this study offers context-specific empirical evidence that may inform targeted interventions aimed at enhancing compassion satisfaction and reducing burnout and trauma-related stress among special education teachers.
