Abstract

Abstract

Food security encompasses not just the availability and accessibility of food, but is also intricately linked to the psychological well-being of the community. This community service initiative seeks to enhance understanding and awareness among urban populations, particularly in the Jakarta region, about the connection between food security and mental health. The program employs an educational and participatory methodology that engages a variety of stakeholders, including academics, food distribution organizations, consumer advocacy groups, and local residents. Key activities include workshops, discussions on food policy, and education regarding the significance of emotional stability and a sense of security in obtaining sufficient food. The outcomes of this initiative indicate that the community's comprehension of the psychological dimensions of food security remains limited; however, there is considerable enthusiasm for incorporating a mental well-being perspective into food policies and initiatives. This program aspires to serve as a collaborative model for developing a food system that is not only sustainable in physical and economic terms but also fosters the overall mental well-being of the community.

Abstract

This research aimed to gain an in-depth understanding of the relationship between family social support and psychological stress levels among visually impaired adolescents residing in Bekasi, Indonesia. Utilizing a quantitative approach with a correlational design, the study involved 105 visually impaired adolescents aged 12 to 18 years as participants. Data collection was carried out using two primary instruments: the Family Social Support Scale (a modified version of the MSPSS) to measure perceived support, and the Adolescent Psychological Stress Scale (a modified version of the PSS) to assess experienced stress levels. The analysis results showed a significant and strong finding: there was a strong and significant negative correlation between perceived family social support and psychological stress levels in visually impaired adolescents. This was evidenced by a correlation coefficient of r=−0.68 and a very low probability value of p<0.001. This figure indicates that the higher the support adolescents received from their families, the lower their psychological stress levels were. These findings reaffirm the crucial role of family as a vital protective and buffering factor for the mental health and psychological well-being of visually impaired adolescents. Therefore, this research recommends developing and strengthening family-based interventions as an effective effort to enhance the psychological well-being of this adolescent group.

Abstract

Student engagement is a broad concept that encompasses student commitment, interaction, and connection with academic material, curriculum, and activities that support learning and achievement. Student engagement has been conceptualized as a three-dimensional construct: emotional/affective, behavioral, and cognitive engagement. There are differences in student engagement levels between male and female students, based on PISA results between 2012 and 2022, with performance in mathematics declining among male students, but remaining stable among female students in Indonesia. This study aimed to identify gender-based differences in student engagement. This research method employed a quantitative approach. Sampling was conducted using non-probability and purposive sampling (N=467). Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) was used to test the construct validity of each variable using the Lisrel 8.8 software, and difference tests were conducted using SPSS 23 software. The results of the study indicate that there were differences in variance between male and female groups in the behavioral and cognitive engagement variables, while there were no differences in variance between male and female groups in the emotional engagement variable. Additionally, the categorization of scores for the behavioral engagement, emotional engagement, and cognitive engagement variables was dominated by the moderate category. Future research should investigate variables related to behavioral and cognitive engagement among female students to foster school engagement. This study aims to develop potential teaching strategies and interventions for both male and female students to enhance student engagement in school.

Abstract

Resilience is a dynamic and diverse process where individuals show psychological functioning despite unpleasant events (trauma). Resilient individuals can use personal abilities to deal with difficult situations and are influenced by the belief held by individuals that every problem can be solved with good results. This is inseparable from understanding within the individual not to judge anyone when dealing with issues. This study aims to show optimism and self-compassion as predictors of resilience in students. The research sample comprised 97 students from a private university in Palembang, Indonesia, who were 18-21 years old and was obtained by a multistage random sampling technique. Research data were obtained by filling out three adaptation scales, namely the Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale, Self-Compassion Scale, and Optimism Scale. Data analysis used multiple regression analysis techniques. Cronbach's Alpha coefficient reliability for Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale (0.824), Self-Compassion Scale (0.927), and Optimism Scale (0.775).
