Abstract

Women entering early adulthood will face various developmental demands and challenges. These demands and challenges require early adult women to be independent and no longer dependent on other people. This research is a new finding that aims to reveal the relationship between self-concept and gender-oriented parenting independently and simultaneously with the Cinderella complex in 312 early adult women. The measuring instruments in the research are the self-concept scale, the gender-oriented parenting style scale, and the Cinderella complex scale. The data analysis technique used multiple regression and the results obtained were that self-concept and gender-oriented parenting were simultaneously related to the Cinderella complex with an effective contribution of 32.2% (23% contribution of self-concept & 29.4% contribution of gender-oriented parenting). This research supports external factors as factors that have a greater influence on the Cinderella complex based on a comparison of correlation coefficient values and effective contribution. These findings can be a basis for consideration for further research related to the Cinderella complex theme and the formulation of interventions for women with Cinderella complex syndrome

Abstract

This study examined the role of self-efficacy and peer social support in problem-focused coping among Chief Engineers (Kadepsin) of Navy Warships (KRI) in the Eastern Fleet Command (Koarmada II). The maritime work environment posed various challenges, requiring effective coping strategies. Self-efficacy, defined as an individual’s belief in their ability to overcome difficulties, and peer social support, including emotional and instrumental assistance, were assumed to contribute to managing work-related stress. A quantitative approach was employed, using a saturated sampling technique involving 72 Chief Engineers as respondents. Data were collected via Google Forms using validated scales: a 16-item self-efficacy scale (α = 0.898), a 21-item peer social support scale (α = 0.905), and a problem-focused coping scale (α = 0.940). The results showed that self-efficacy and peer social support significantly predicted problem-focused coping (R² = 0.915), accounting for 91.5% of the variance. Minor hypothesis tests revealed that self-efficacy contributed 84.6% and peer social support contributed 87.2% to problem-focused coping. These findings highlighted the importance of enhancing self-efficacy and social support networks to improve coping strategies in high-pressure maritime work environments.

Abstract

This study aimed to examine the relationship between academic resilience and peer social support with academic adjustment among first-year medical students at the Faculty of Medicine, University X Surabaya. The transition from high school to university often required substantial adaptation to changes in curriculum, learning methods, and academic expectations. These conditions posed challenges for new students to adjust to the dynamics of university life and the increasing complexity of academic demands. The study employed a quantitative correlational approach using a simple random sampling technique that involved 125 students from the 2024 cohort. Data were collected through Google Forms using three instruments: the Academic Resilience Scale with 18 valid items, the Peer Social Support Scale with 47 valid items, and the Academic adjustment Scale with 42 valid items. The results showed a significant relationship between academic resilience and peer social support with academic adjustment. Partially, academic resilience contributed, while peer social support contributed. These findings emphasized that students’ academic adjustment was influenced not only by individual resilience but also by positive social support within their peer relationships.
