Abstract

Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui pengaruh dari suara pembicara native (pembicara yang bahasa ibunya adalah Bahasa Inggris) dan non-native daam teks listening yang diberikan kepada siswa-siswa dikelas TOEFL di NAD Education Consultant, Banda Aceh. Tes digunakan sebagai instrumen agar mendapatkan data tentang kemampuan para siswa dalam menguasai teks listening yang dipengaruhi oleh suara native dan non-native. Sampel dari peneltian ini adalah 10 orang siswa tahun ajaran 2013-2014. Hasil dari penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ada perbedaan hasil dari tes yang diberikan kepada para siswa jika teks dari tes tersebut dibacakan oleh native (Amerika). Dengan kata lain, para siswa mudah untuk mengerti atau memahami tes jika teks dari tes tersebut dibacakan oleh orang Indonesia (non-native). Dapat disimpulkan bahwa para siswa lebih dekat dengan suara orang non-native. Hasil dari angket juga mempekuat kesimpulan ini, para siswa lebih mudah untuk memahami non-native (Indonesia) dari pada native. Siswa-siswa ini terbiasa mendengarkan aksen dan suara orang Indonesia. Mereka menghadapi beberapa masalah dalam memahami teks listening yang menggunakan suara native, yaitu: sulit untuk mengikuti aksen natural dan kecepatan kata yang dibaca dari native. Dari hasil ini disarankan agar para siswa dilatih untuk mendengar suara native, baik Amerika atau Inggris. Ini akan membantu mereka untuk memahami percakapan diantara para native.

Abstract

Microteaching lesson has been implemented to train the student teachers to be able to deliver their teaching material. Most students feel the anxiety at the beginning of the lesson periode. To reduce this feeling, the lecturer ask the students to write down a single-paper self experience that they have got through their teaching simulation performace. This study was gained to get the information about students’ perceptions on self-reflection sheet in microteaching class. The opened-questionnaires sheet were shared by the writer to the students English teachers who studied microteaching lesson in sixth semesterin 2016-2017 academic year of Muhammadiyah Universiy Aceh. Here the writer wanted to know  whether the self-reflection sheet gives the positive aspect or not. The sample of this study was random sampling. The subject of this research were 10 students from one unit microteaching. The subject described that the self-reflectin sheet gave them the drawn of what they felt and did during their performance, so that they could do better things in the next round teaching simulation and feel there was something positive happened. By having self-reflection sheet, the student teachers realized their weaknesses in their teaching performance.

Abstract

This community service activity had been held for 1st grade elementary school of SD Muhammadiyah Banda Aceh during June 2022. The use of puppet and storytelling in introducing basic English is an interesting and fun activity for children. This activity aimed to make the participants able to understand basic English quickly which can be used as a stepping stone to understand English daily. The methodology used was the lecture method using puppet in the form of cards that have been attached to ice cream sticks and colored. The materials provided were alphabets, numbers and colors, then followed by storytelling using other puppets entitled The bear and friends. The results obtained that the participants were very enthusiastic and able to catch the material quickly, this can be seen when the participants could answer all the questions about the materials provided.Keyword: Puppet story, basic English, community service

Abstract

Textbooks play an important role in the teaching and learning process. In learning English, textbooks are an essential source of knowledge and information about the language. As a result, the use of English textbooks must be closely investigated. According to this issue, this study was conducted to analyze the English textbook used at the first level of secondary school from the perspectives of both teachers and students. This study was an explanatory sequential mixed method (a qualitative and quantitative research design). Purposive sampling was employed to select two teachers and twenty students from SMP Muhammadiyah Banda Aceh. The data of this study was gathered through interviewing teachers and distributing questionnaires to students. The qualitative data was examined descriptively, while the quantitative data was analyzed using percentages. The finding revealed that both teachers and students had favorable attitudes toward the English textbook. From the interview results, teachers believed that English textbooks were proper for teaching and learning processes in the classroom. Further, the result of the questionnaire identified that most students agreed that the use of English textbooks could effectively help them in learning English. As a whole, the English textbook meets the needs of students in learning English
