Abstract

Abstract

Electricity is one of basic human needs. However, PLN's ability to meet customer demands is hampered by its limitations. On the other hand, the sunny geographical advantage of Makassar city can be utilized as a new renewable and environmentally friendly energy source in a smart home. Smart house is a family residence that is able to synergize electricity usage based on the habits of its residents with the help of smart technology so that comfort, safety and efficiency of using electrical energy are obtained. The utilization of solar cell hybrid power – battery – PLN can be implemented in addition to meeting the needs of electricity load in the smart home, it can also contribute excess energy to fulfill off-grid building load.  Monte Carlo Simulation (MCS) is carried out at the beginning of data processing by randomly generating 24-hour models of solar irradiance and smart home load requirements along with weather conditions. PLN not only takes over fulfilling the needs of the smart home load when there is less and or no sunlight and minimum battery capacity conditions, but also it will charge the battery capacity up to 100% every midnight. On average, the daily load requirement for a smart home is almost half the energy produced by PVs, which are 12,439 kW and 24,509 kW respectively. Furthermore, the smart home hybrid power is capable of producing 8,946 MW of excess energy in a year to serve the off-grid building load needs.

Abstract

The increasing implementation of Internet of Things (IoT) in 5G technology and cellular communications faces significant challenges regarding data traffic load and network congestion, particularly in conventional smart home systems. This research proposes and implements a distributed parallel smart home architecture as a solution for optimizing data traffic management and enhancing system reliability. The developed architecture adopts a three-layer structure: a cloud layer as the parent node, a route layer based on ESP8266 as distributed nodes, and a leaf layer consisting of sensors and actuators. Implementation was conducted through a prototype model at the UMI Electrical Engineering Laboratory with comprehensive system performance testing. Results demonstrate a 47% reduction in traffic load compared to conventional centralized systems, achieving 99.7% reliability with a 2.3-second recovery time. The system maintains bandwidth utilization below 60% and demonstrates scaling capability up to 200% without performance degradation. Under normal conditions, the system achieves an average traffic rate of 0.93 Kbits with a 45ms response time, while in emergency mode, it handles peak traffic up to 0.94 Kbits with a 32ms response time. This research contributes significantly to developing more efficient and scalable smart home architectures while providing a framework for implementing parallel distributed systems in broader IoT applications.

Abstract

Limited telecommunication network services, even for 2G technology, in some regions due to living in small islands, range of hills and blank spot areas are experienced in Indonesian Republic. One of solutions is proposed by using 11-element Yagi-Uda antenna operated in GSM band of frequencies. Mmanagal software is run to simulate this proposed model in order to analyze antenna performance parameters namely field pattern, F/B ratio, gain antenna, input impedance and SWR. First of all, the antenna performance, operated at frequency of 925 MHz, is the best because of the ideal SWR. Furthermore, the performance parameters of the antenna at GSM’s uplink frequency, 902.5 MHz, are good because the SWR value is less than 2 dB. However, drawback of the antenna performance is occurred in which the model antenna is operated at central frequency of GSM downlink, 947.5 MHz. It is stated that radiated pattern, back lobe is more dominant than main lobe, is vice versa with two other operated frequencies. Moreover, the value of SWR, slightly above 4.6 dB, is more than 2 dB.

Abstract

This paper analyzes the comparison of data communications using GEO satellites between C-band and Ka-band frequencies in Indonesia which has a tropical rain climate. The data communication uses QPSK modulation on the path of four earth stations by paying attention to six variations of observation time. Parameters, C/ N, Eb/No and link margins, are applied to indicate the communication performance. This study shows that C-band satellite communication can be implemented for all conditions, whereas in Ka-band the success of communication transfer cannot be accessed by all observation times.

Abstract

The PLN officer in charge of recording kWh meters is sometimes unable to photograph them because men discovered that the houses were unoccupied and their fences were locked. Due to these circumstances, the calculation of the current month’s electricity consumption is equated with the previous month, and customers can be harmed. The purpose of this research is to take a physical photo of the kWh meter showing the electrical power consumption and send it to WhatsApp. Firstly, it needs to set the timer on the DS3231, which determines the date for activating the esp32-cam to take kWh meter pictures and upload them to the server. Next, esp8255 downloads those photos from the server. Finally, esp8255 sends them to the WhatsApp application. In this study, the results were obtained in the form of an Internet of Things (IoT)-based smart home device system. The WhatsApp application is a notification media, taking pictures of analog kWh meters in 3–5 seconds with throughput, reliability, and availability values of 189 bps, 96%, and 95.97%, respectively.

Abstract

Standar pengimplementasian teknologi jaringan 5G berdasarkan rekomendasi International Telecommunication Union (ITU) melalui program International Mobile Telecommunication (IMT)-2020. Hanya saja perlu memaksimalkan teknologi Device to Device (D2D). 5th Generation (5G) network technology is a new phenomenon in South Sulawesi where there will be 4G to 5G technology migration. Following the increasing penetration of internet users, the technology needs to be implemented immediately. This study used observation method in the form of literature studies and interviews. The obtained data were analyzed using Strength-Weakness-Opportunity-Threat (SWOT) method. The analysis results of  4G to 5G migration based on architecture evolution are Serving Gateway (SGW), Mobility Management Entity (MME), Access and Mobility Management Function (AMF), Evolved-Universal Terresterial Radio Access Network (E-UTRAN), and Next Generation-Radio Access Network (NG-RAN). The standards required for the 5G network technology implementation are based on the recommendation of International Telecommunication Union (ITU) through International Mobile Telecommunication (IMT)-2020 program. During 2018 to 2021, the number of internet users in South Sulawesi increased by  67,6%. Meanwhile, the number of villages/wards served by BTS with 4G technology expanded by 335 area for three years. This is one of the opportunities for South Sulawesi implementing 5G network. Futhermore, sufficiently good infrastructure is as one of the strengths due to the availability of 94% of 4G BTS from all BTS in 2021. However, it needs to maximize Device to Device (D2D) technology.
