Abstract

This study examines the application of Umberto Eco's semiotics in investigative journalism, focusing on the news coverage of the Vina and Eky murder case in Cirebon. The research analyzes the news article titled "Initial Evidence of Vina's Case Did Not Use Scientific Investigation, Convict's Legal Counsel: This is the Beginning of the Problem," published on June 22, 2024, by Kompas. The primary objective is to explore how Eco's semiotic theory shapes the narrative of this murder case and how symbols, signs, and narratives influence the public's perception of truth and professionalism in criminal investigations. The study employs a qualitative approach, using semiotic analysis on relevant news texts. Data were collected from articles and related reports on the Vina and Eky cases. The findings reveal that Eco's semiotic theory is highly relevant for understanding how meaning is constructed and presented in news narratives. The Vina and Eky case illustrates how factual reporting can intertwine with subjective interpretations, impacting public opinion and the judicial process. The study uncovers a tension between journalistic freedom and the need to maintain factual accuracy, along with the role of law enforcement professionalism in addressing biased or manipulative narratives. It concludes that Eco's semiotics offers valuable insights for analyzing crime-related news, helping journalists and law enforcement navigate the complexities of biased information while upholding investigative integrity. This research underscores the importance of balancing journalistic freedom, truth, and professionalism in investigative reporting

Abstract

Abstract

The digital era has brought about fundamental changes in the way businesses are conducted worldwide. Entrepreneurship in the global context demands adaptability and rapid innovation in facing increasingly fierce competition. This research aims to examine the contribution of business information systems in addressing the challenges of global entrepreneurship in the digital era. The research method employed is a literature review with a qualitative approach and descriptive analysis. In this context, descriptive analysis will be used to depict the findings from selected articles from Google Scholar for the period 2004-2024. The study results indicate that in this dynamic and complex digital era, Business Information Systems (BIS) have proven to be key in addressing the challenges of global entrepreneurship. Through the integration of information technology and business processes, BIS enables companies to enhance operational efficiency, respond quickly to market changes, and create innovative products and services that differentiate them from competitors. However, the adoption of BIS is not without challenges. Companies need to pay attention to data security aspects, ensure sustainability in technology usage, and overcome organizational and cultural barriers.

Abstract

Kata Kunci: citizen journalism; sinematografi; penulisan naskah; media sosial; seluler AbstractThe development of smartphone technology and social media among teenagers has not been accompanied by adequate content production skills. Initial findings among students of Triguna 1956 Vocational School indicate that although all students are active on social media, the majority do not yet understand proper scriptwriting and cinematography techniques, so that the resulting content is at risk of being inaccurate or unstructured. This Community Service (PKM) activity aims to equip students with citizen journalism skills so they are able to produce content that is interesting, cinematic, informative, and can be accounted for its truth (anti-hoax). The training method is carried out through four main sessions which include: (1) provision of scriptwriting techniques based on the 5W + 1H format, (2) training in cinematography and editing techniques using smartphone applications, (3) socialization of wise social media ethics, and (4) mentoring in group content production practices. As a result of the training, participants showed significant improvements in their ability to compose narratives, take pictures from the right angles, and process visuals into structured information. Students began to develop journalistic instincts in analyzing events to be used as content. However, evaluation results indicated that participants still needed to develop their confidence in conducting in-depth interviews. Furthermore, the training successfully improved students' digital literacy and technical skills in producing citizen journalism independently. Keywords: citizen journalism; cinematography; scriptwriting; social media; mobile
