Abstract

Every concept in mathematics is related to one another. In addition, a concept can be a prerequisite for another concept. Mastery of a concept is needed to learn other concepts. One of the materials that is an important foundation in mathematics is the linear equation. The material on linear equations is the basis for understanding more advanced mathematical concepts, such as geometry, statistics, and calculus. Therefore, a strong understanding of this material is very important for the junior high school level. Referring to information from subject teachers and students in the mathematics subject of linear equations for class VIII A, St. Aloysius Catholic Junior High School Niki-Niki explained that there are still many students in class VIII A who have learning outcomes that are below the criteria set by the school. So a solution is needed to solve the problems being experienced, one of which can be done is to carry out community service, namely providing training in the use of the Geogebra application which can significantly help students build an understanding of the concept of linear equations. Abstract

AbstractMathematical representations are needed to present mathematical ideas. Students' mathematical ability can be seen in how students represent their ideas on a mathematical problem. The representation used by students will be different from other students. This study aims to see the mathematical representation and mathematical ability of students based on Bloom's Taxonomy. A descriptive qualitative method was used to describe the Mathematical Representation and Mathematical Ability of Junior High School Students based on Bloom's Taxonomy. In this study, the instruments were divided into two, namely the main instrument (the researcher himself) and the supporting instruments, namely the mathematical representation test, Bloom's taxonomy test, and interviews. The results show that the overall ability of students to solve the problem of linear equations of two variables is different. This can be seen in the process of solving the mathematical problems which have not been answered correctly. Although the representation is correct, several questions have not been answered correctly. As for the mathematical ability in terms of Bloom's Taxonomy level, no subject has been able to solve level one to six questions in a row correctly.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the types of errors and the factors that cause students' errors in solving SPLDV story problems from a visual learning style perspective. The type of research used is descriptive qualitative. The research subjects consisted of Class VIII at SMP Negeri 2 Malaka Barat, who were identified as having a visual learning style. The research instruments were essay tests on SPLDV word problems and interview guidelines. Students' errors were analyzed using Kastelan’s theory, which classifies errors into conceptual, procedural, and technical. The results showed that students with visual learning style still made various errors, including (1) conceptual errors, such as inability to construct mathematical models from word problems and misapplying elimination or substitution methods; (2) procedural errors, such as failing to write systematic solving steps and not completing problems until the final stage; (3) technical errors, such as miscalculations and mistakes in copying numbers or variabels. The causes of errors came from internal factors (lack of conceptual understanding, inaccuracy, and difficulty in translating verbal information into symbolic form) and external factors (teaching methods with minimal visualization, an unconducive learning environment, and limited solving time).
