Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

Background: Students during the Covid-19 pandemic were very close to a sedentary lifestyle because of online learning patterns. This results in an increase in body mass index (BMI) due to lack of physical activity and energy burnt. The aim of this research was to find out the relationship between sedentary lifestyle and body mass index of female students during the Covid-19 pandemic. Subjects dan Method: The research method uses a quantitative analytic observational design, with a cross sectional approach. The population in this study were 110 students of the Midwifery Study Program, Faculty of Medicine, Sebelas Maret University. Sampling using the Slovin formula as many as 85 respondents with a confidence level of 95%. The research dependent variable is the body mass index of female students during the Covid-19 pandemic and the independent variable is sedentary lifestyle. The data collection method is to use the BMI questionnaire and the Adolescent Sedentary Activity Questionnaire (ASAQ). Data analysis used Somer's test. Results: The results showed that 61.2% of students were included in the less sedentary lifestyle classification, while 56.5% of students had a normal body mass index. The results of bivariate analysis with Somer's correlation test obtained a p-value of 0.045 and a gamma coefficient value of 0.38. Conclusion: The conclusion is that there is a relationship between sedentary lifestyle and body mass index in undergraduate students of Applied Midwifery, Faculty of Medicine, Sebelas Maret University, Surakarta. The correlation strength is moderate. It is hoped that individuals and communities can motivate themselves to carry out physical activities such as regular sports and educational institutions can facilitate learning methods that can involve physical activity in both online and offline learning. Abstract

Background: Massage has been widely studied because of its potential to promote growth in children. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of massage therapy on weight gain in children under 2 years old at the Jenawi Health Center. Methods: A non-randomized controlled trial with a pretest and posttest, involving 70 children under 2 years of age. Participants were divided into an intervention group, which received infant massage therapy for one month, and a control group which did not receive massage. Interventions are given daily by the mother. Data analysis used the Wilcoxon and Mann-Whitney. Results: there was a significant increase in body weight compared to the control group. The mean weight change in the intervention and control group was 485.7 and 350 grams. The Wilcoxon test obtained a z-score of -7,280 (p = 0.001), indicating a statistically significant weight gain from baseline to post-intervention. Additionally, the Mann-Whitney U test revealed a statistically significant difference in weight change between the control and intervention groups (z = -3.269, p = 0.001). Therefore, it can be concluded that massage is effective in increasing the Infant's weight so massage can be used as a routine treatment method to support the weight growth of children under two years old.

Abstract

Breastfeeding is critical for the health of both mothers and infants, with global recommendations supporting exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months. This study aimed to examine the knowledge, attitudes, perceptions, and challenges faced by pregnant women in Surakarta.: Five women between 28 and 36 weeks of gestation were recruited using snowball sampling, and data were collected through in-depth interviews. Thematic analysis, conducted using NVivo 12. Revealed that while participants generally demonstrated a high level of preparedness for breastfeeding, challenges such as public discomfort, inconsistent readiness, and emotional uncertainties persisted. The support of their husbands was felt to be crucial by the participants in this study. However, as the study involved only five pregnant women, the findings should be interpreted with caution, and may not be generalizable to a wider population. Nonetheless, this study suggests that emphasis should be placed on addressing the individual needs of mothers and providing appropriate support interventions to help overcome emotional and logistical barriers, which could enhance effective breastfeeding practices in similar contexts.
