Abstract

This research aims to reveal teachers' reflections in teaching English during the pre-pandemic period and during the pandemic. Before the pandemic, a teacher's English instruction might have focused more on direct interaction in the classroom, with an emphasis on oral communication and group activities. Teachers can easily provide real-time feedback to students, facilitate live discussions, and provide open-ended materials directly. However, during the pandemic, English language teaching has faced new challenges by maintaining distance learning. By using the theoretical concept of Baker (1996) regarding Self-Reflection combined with Kentnor (2015) regarding the Online Learning System, it becomes the right composition for implementing learning during the Covid-19 Pandemic. This study uses a qualitative method. The results of this research reveal about (1) Teacher Reflections in Teaching English in the Pre-Pandemic Period (2) Teacher Reflections in Teaching English During the Pandemic. This research is important as a reflection that can be used by teachers and lecturers in the teaching and learning process before and during the pandemic.

Abstract

This paper examines the presence of Chinese descendants on Bangka Island, focusing on assimilating the Khek language, spoken by the Hakka community, by studying the hybridization across four sub-districts: Pangkalpinang, Sungaliat, Muntok, and Belinyu. Using the qualitative methods, including interviews and recordings of daily conversations, this paper analyzes the linguistic choices and semantic shifts in Khek by discussing the characteristics of the Khek language. This study has two main objectives: (1) to identify the lexical patterns and meaning of the Khek language in everyday use, and (2) to explore the socio-historical factors influencing Khek’s development on Bangka island. Abstract

Gambus and song lyrics complement each other, creating harmony while representing the history and cultural identity of their communities. This study aims to explore identity through diction choices, phonological processes, and musical notes in Gambus. These elements are assumed to reflect social relations and cultural identity. The sociolinguistic theory of isolect and identity theory are applied to analyze the lyrics and musical notes. This qualitative descriptive study employs library research using the song lyrics of Ketepik Belian Padi and the Gambus melody played by Sukino (a Gambus maestro) and his daughter, accessible at https://youtu.be/wEJMsTUhY9c. The research addresses two questions: (1) How is Ketepik Belian Padi in Gambus Belitung portrayed as a social identity? and (2) How is Ketepik Belian Padi in Gambus Belitung used as an element of social identity? The findings show that the identity of the people of East Belitung is deeply influenced by historical events and is preserved through these song lyrics.
