Abstract

Discipline is an important part of education in the context of formal, non-formal, and informal education. Discipline can be seen as a positive and constructive power which is capable of providing any equipment to form consistency, predictability, enjoyment, and suitable environment of educating and learning. Discipline in truth is not the obedience toward the rule which is forced from out side, but it is such a self-reliance which is based on desire to make an order in life. The weakness of students’ self-reliance will impact to the wrong manner, which is called the problem of discipline, where students break the rules: playing truant, being late for school, making noise, gossiping, and cheating. Counseling as an integral part of education is responsible for handling students’ discipline at school through un-punishment ways. The real group counseling by William Glasser can be proposed as a model of counseling for counselors to improve students’ discipline in un-punishment way. This model is hoped to provide counselors with practicality to help students to control their better life to have real manner, and to be responsible. The quantitative with experiment design aimed to search the effectiveness of real group counseling in improving students’ manner at school, which was indicated by the increase of self-reliance and the decrease of students’ indiscipline. Operationally the development model of reality teraphy comprises procedure of real group counseling with WDEP model, which cover 6 steps: participation, wants exploration, direction and doing, evaluation, planning, and termination. The study found some improvement on the aspects of self reliance and the decrease of duration of students, indiscipline which was guessed as the impact of the treatment. In other words, the treatment given to the subject which was designed in the form of real group counseling was effective to improve students’ discipline at school.

Abstract

Guidance and Counseling Services in school are the services which are personal approach and group approach in nature. Individual counseling is a service which is personal approach. In its implementation, individualized counseling requires that a counselor has the ability and skills in using facilitative responses for the attainment of the goals of counseling. Cormier & Cormier, (1991) and Brammer (in Romlah 2001) classify facilitative responses in the counseling relationship into several basic communication skills of counseling such as: opening, acceptance, structuring, reflection of feelings,  reflection of meaning, restatement, clarification, paraphrasing, confronting, questioning, reassurance, exploration, summary,advice, rejection, termination, focussing, minimum encouragement, exploration, and directing.Recognizing the importance of communication skills in counseling, the researcher focussed his study on the application of several communication skills in counseling by acounselor, whose general aim is to know how the basic communication skills in counseling are applied by counselors, especially school counselors of Junior High Schools in Madiunmunicipality.This research is descriptive with a sample of some 30 state junior high school counselors in Madiun municipality. The analysis of data showed that the average score of the application of overall basic counseling skills is 2.48, which is classified as good. In detail, of the 15 applications of basic counseling skills, a conclusion can be drawn as follows: (a) five of them are classified as excellent, namely skills of opening (mean 3.30), acceptance (mean 3.23), termination (mean 3.25), reassurance (mean 3.20), and structuring (mean 3.15), (b) four of them are classified as good, namely skills of reflection of feelings (mean 2.24), questioning/lead (mean 2.50 ), summary (mean 2.82), and rejection (mean 2.66), (c) six of them are classified as enough, namely skills of restatement (mean 1.97), clarification (mean 1.85), reflection of meaning (mean 2.00), confrontation (mean 1.59), paraphrasing (mean 1.95), and advice (mean1.47).

Abstract

This research aimsto determine the degree of influence of the self-control and self-disclosure for the establishment of disciplinary behavior model of students at school. The object of this research is the students of SMK PGRI Wonoasri Caruban Madiun of academic year 2011/2012, with131 students as its sampel.The analysis shows that (1) the first minor hypothesis is acceptable, based on the results of hypothesis test with the t value the 2865; t table = 1.658, p = 0.005 (significant) at 5% significance level, (2) the second minor hypothesis is acceptable, based on the results of hypothesis test with the t value = 9267; t table = 1.658, p = 0.000 (significant) at 5% significance level, (3) the major hypothesis indicates that there is a significant influence of self-control and self-disclosure toward disciplinary behavior. The data processing reveals the F value =46,856, at 5% significance level with F table = 2.290. This means that the major hypothesis is acceptable, because F value > F table.The findings of this research provide clear information that internal factors such as self-control and self-disclosure strongly influence the formation of the students’ disciplinary behavior with a contribution = 67.2%. It is very important for teachers as educators, school counselors as wellas for students themselves to consider the influenceof these two factors.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to determine the competence of counselors dealing with the application of the basic techniques of counseling in the setting of counseling services at theeducation unit level of Senior High School and Vocational High School in Madiun. This research applied descriptive method with quantitative data in order only to describe variables,symptoms and conditions. The subject is the counselors of Senior High Schools and Vocational High Schools in Madiun. They are 50 in number. In this case, one of their tasks isto provide counseling services both individually and in group. To determine the subject of this study, total sampling technique was used due to the limited number of the subject. Theinstrument used to collect the data was the scale of basic communication skills of counselor.The data analysis made use of mean analysis method. The results showed that the overall mean score obtained by the application of basic techniques of counseling was 2.84. Thisillustrates that the school counselors at the education unit level of Senior High School and Vocational High School in Madiun generally possessed a good ability to apply a number ofbasic techniques of counseling. The application of basic techniques of counseling with a high mean score of the very good category was on the skills of opening (3.83), acceptance (3.75), reflection of feeling (3.25), reassurance (3.01), questioning (3.14), summary (3.19), and termination (3.45); while, the application of basic techniques of counseling with a lower mean score of fair category was on the skills of rejection (1.81), advice (1.86), and restatement (1.92),

Abstract

Reproductive health issues become crucial for human beings. Everyone has the same right to fight for his health. The students as the future generation intellectually have many advantages; as agents of changes, the students must have comprehensive understanding on the reproductive health and its impact. Otherwise, the cases of sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) may increase. This study aimed to find the points of view of the students—namely the ones from the Guidance and Counseling study program, Widya Mandala Catholic University of Madiun—on  the reproductive health. This research was qualitative, descriptive, and interpretative in nature. The research samples were 40 students of Guidance and Counseling study program Widya Mandala Catholic University of Madiun. The data were collected by using questionnaires and limited interviews. The data taken from the questionnaires were analyzed with the average analysis technique; the data taken from the questionnaires were used to  strengthen the result of the analysis. The results of this research showed that 75% students had known the importance of reproductive health. It could be seen from the three aspects becoming the focus in this research; the aspect of premarital sex by an average of 4.55 (good category), the aspect of abortion by an average of 6.89 (excellent category) and the aspect of infectious diseases by an average of of 3.56 ( excellent category). Furthermore, from the limited interviews, it could be seen that keeping reproductive health was essential in order to prevent STDs. Finally, 88%  of them agreed the Guidance and Counseling study program, Widya Mandala Catholic University of Madiun provided counseling sevice including the reproductive health service.

Abstract

In the context of Pastoral Counseling services, mastery of basic communication technique skills is very important for a prospective pastoral officer to understand and master. The research objective was to describe the mastery of basic communication techniques skills in pastoral counseling and the benefits of supporting pastoral tasks. The research subjects were the fourth-semester students of STKIP Widya Yuwana Madiun in 2018/2019 who had passed the Pastoral Counseling course, totaling 37 students. From the results of the study, it could be concluded that the student's mastery of 13 basic technical skills of communication in pastoral counseling, 10 of them were good categories, with an average of 84.06%, namely the opening technique, structuring, attending, acceptance, reflection of feelings, exploration, confronting, questioning, reassurance and advice. Meanwhile, the other 3 techniques were categorized as not being sufficiently mastered by students, with an average of 66.67%, namely the techniques of reflection of meaning, restatement, and paraphrasing. Furthermore, in terms of usefulness, it showed that of the 15 randomly selected subjects, the pastoral counseling course was very useful and supportive for the task of pastoral care. Suggestions for development based on research results, namely the need for continuous sharpening and independent training so that students are more skilled in applying basic communication techniques for pastoral counseling.
