The Mongonyop Dance is a traditional dance from Banggai Regency that highlights the culinary tradition of onyop from the Saluan ethnic group. This study discusses how the symbols in the Mongonyop Dance represent the local wisdom of Banggai Regency. It is a qualitative study using Roland Barthes' semiotics as the analytical method. The aim is to identify the symbols within the Mongonyop Dance and to interpret their meanings, which represent the local wisdom of Banggai Regency, by exploring both the denotative and connotative meanings of these classified symbols to uncover the myths within the sign system related to Banggai Regency. The results of this study show that the symbols in the Mongonyop Dance, based on the signs presented, represent the local wisdom of Banggai Regency. These symbols are observed in various aspects of the Mongonyop Dance's presentation, broken down into elements such as movement variations, floor patterns, accompanying music, aural elements, and the properties used. Through the analysis method employed, identifying denotative meanings, connotative meanings, and myths reveals that the Mongonyop Dance represents the attitudes and characteristics of human beings, including spiritual behavior, social aspects, and a simple worldview, reflecting the philosophy of life of the Banggai people. Additionally, the Mongonyop Dance explicitly represents a civilization rich in diversity, with its local wisdom serving as a hallmark of Banggai Regency’s cultural heritage.

Abstract

This research is based on the problems encountered in the implementation of extracurricular activities in dance, particularly among students in class X APL-2 at SMK Negeri 1 Gorontalo, which has not been maximized. The researcher found several problems in the implementation of extracurricular activities, where students in class X APL-2 still lack understanding of dance movements, especially the Tidi Da'a dance. During extracurricular activities, students mostly practice independently without direct guidance from the extracurricular coach. This can be seen from the students' stiffness in performing dance movements, resulting in a lack of synchronization between one movement and the next. Given these problems, the researcher used the drill method in the learning process of Tidi Da'a in extracurricular activities, aiming to observe and describe the extent of the application and effectiveness of the drill method in learning Tidi Da'a among students in class X APL-2 at SMK Negeri 1 Gorontalo. To solve the problems in this research, several theories were used, including the concept of learning and the drill method. The purpose of this study is to describe the learning process of the traditional Tidi Da'a dance in extracurricular activities. The results of the research show that the drill method is very effective during the practice process of the Tidi Da'a dance. It can be concluded that this research shows that the effectiveness of the drill method has a significant impact on the learning process, as evidenced by the students' responsibility in carrying out the tasks and exercises given, although some students still make mistakes, such as unstable tempo. In the evaluation process, each student is able to perform the dance well

Abstract

This research is based on problems that occur in the dance learning process in class IX A MTSN 2 Banggai. In this case, in accordance with the 2013 curriculum, the basic competency in creative dance material in class IX is that students are expected to be able to understand and demonstrate creative dance movements based on the supporting elements of dance. However, in dance learning in class IX-A the teacher only assigns students to note down the material in the textbook, whereas in learning to demonstrate creative dances the teacher can provide examples of dances originating from their own region, namely the Molabot dance creations, which can be taught to student. Given these problems, researchers used the Guided Inquiry model as an alternative to help teachers in the learning process. The aim of this research is to describe the learning process using the Guided Inquiry Model for grade 9 students with dance material created by Molabot at MTSN 2 Banggai. Based on the results of Molabot's creative dance learning using the Guided Inquiry model, it shows that of all class IX A MTSN 2 Banggai students, totaling 17 students, there were 8 students who got a grade of A (Very Good), 6 students who got a grade of B (Good), and 3 students who students who get a grade of C (Adequate). So the average student score was 80.58 and the percentage result was 82% and met the criteria B (Good). In the practical evaluation carried out per group, there were 2 groups and each received a grade of B (Good).

Abstract

This research is motivated by field issues, particularly the continued use of one-way (lecture-based) teaching methods by educators, who predominantly rely on theoretical explanations from printed textbooks rather than engaging in practical activities. Furthermore, educators have not fully optimized the integration of digital media in the learning process, resulting in low student motivation and interest in learning dance. Meanwhile, based on the expected learning outcomes, students are required to create simple, creative dance performances according to their individual potential. This research aims to implement the digital learning media Wordwall, which can assist teachers in the teaching process while enhancing the understanding and learning motivation of Grade X students at SMKS Pariwisata Bubohu. Delivering material through lectures based on printed textbooks is considered ineffective in improving student’s understanding and experience in dance creation. The research employs a mixed methods approach. Data were collected through observation, interviews, documentation, and research instruments. The research subjects included individuals associated with the implementation of this research: the principal, arts and culture teacher, Grade X students of SMKS Pariwisata Bubohu, and lecturers from Universitas Negeri Gorontalo with expertise and interest in the fields of dance and language. This research employs the ADDIE model (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation). The research was carried out through several stages: needs analysis, media design of Wordwall, expert validation, classroom implementation, and evaluation. The results showed that the Wordwall learning media was highly valid for use, with validation scores of 92.5 from material experts, 90 from language experts, and 97.22 from educational media experts. The classroom implementation also showed an increase in understanding and learning interest, as seen in the teacher’s pretest-posttest results: the pretest yielded a score of -1.42 (indicating a decline), while the posttest yielded a score of 0.90 (high). Moreover, students’ responses to the Wordwall media were very positive, with final results categorized as “Very interesting/no revision needed.” This media has proven to enhance student’s comprehension and motivation, as well as support teachers in optimizing the learning process. The research also demonstrated that the ADDIE approach is an effective framework for developing learning media.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the unsatisfactory learning outcomes of arts and culture subject at SMP Negeri 1 Botumoito. This issue is due to the lack of students' understanding and skills in learning theater arts. Based on interviews conducted with the arts and culture subject's teacher (Mirnawati Bolio, S.Pd, September 2023), students' lack of interest in theater art is caused by limited knowledge and low confidence in performing it publicly. Therefore, the researcher is motivated to conduct research at the school. This research uses the Direct Instructions method, where the researcher teaches directly or demonstrates theater performances in front of the class, focusing on the theme of "orang-orang miskin" (the poor). This research aims to describe the process of learning to express poetry in theatrical form in the extracurricular theater group at SMP Negeri 1 Botumoito. The research employs a qualitative research method and the data are collected through observation, interviews, documentation, and assessment instruments. The population comprises 7th and 8th-grade students interested in theater extracurricular activities, totaling 8 students, consisting of 4 male and 4 female students. All participants are selected as samples due to their lack of prior theater experience

Abstract

Music education, particularly the teaching of regional songs, plays an important role in fostering cultural appreciation and developing students’ musical skills. However, in practice, the learning of regional songs at SMP Negeri 3 Bone still faces various challenges, such as low student interest and learning motivation, as well as limited mastery of vocal techniques, including intonation, articulation, and breathing. This study aims to describe the learning process of the Gorontalo regional song Tidi Lo Polopalo through the implementation of an active learning strategy and to determine the effectiveness of this strategy in improving the vocal abilities of eighth-grade students (Class VIII-B) at SMP Negeri 3 Bone. This research employs a qualitative approach with a descriptive research design. Data collection techniques include observation, interviews, and documentation. The results indicate that the application of the active learning strategy increases students’ participation in the learning process, creates a more interactive and enjoyable learning atmosphere, and enhances students’ vocal abilities in terms of intonation, articulation, and breathing. Furthermore, learning regional songs through this strategy fosters students’ self-confidence, cooperation, and appreciation of Gorontalo local culture. Therefore, the active learning strategy is considered effective for use in teaching the regional song Tidi Lo Polopalo in the Cultural Arts subject at SMP Negeri 3 Bone. Abstract

The low level of students' basic technical skills in playing the traditional polopalo musical instrument at SMP Negeri 1 Tilongkabila is caused by the use of the ineffective lecture method in musical arts practice. This study aims to describe the implementation of the drill method to improve students' fine motor skills through extracurricular activities. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, this study involved ten eighth-grade students as the main subjects. The systematic research stages included planning a practice-based teaching module, implementing intensive training for eight meetings, evaluating individual technical achievements, and conducting ongoing instructional reflection. The research findings showed a significant increase in skill mastery gradually; at the fifth meeting the success rate reached 50 percent and jumped rapidly to 70 percent at the sixth meeting. Students successfully mastered stick holding techniques, hitting accuracy, hand movement coordination, and rhythmic accuracy in a stable manner. In addition to technical aspects, the implementation of this repetitive practice significantly increased students' discipline, activeness, and self-confidence. The main conclusion confirms that the drill method is very effective in forming essential muscle memory for beginners in playing traditional instruments. This strategy not only optimizes students' musicality, but also plays a strategic role as an effort to dynamically preserve Gorontalo's local cultural heritage amidst the current modernization of arts education in order to fortify the national identity for the younger generation in schools.
