Abstract

This paper aims to propose philosophical criticism toward 'classical' thinking on philosophy of technology. This set of thinking tends to be trapped in the distinction between subject-object and romantic-pessimisms on the existence of technological dominance. The authors objective is to provide comprehensive understanding through contemporary approaches in philosophy concerning technological mediation. The study employs factual historical analysis and philosophical reflection to understand technological mediation patterns. The result maps point of view that develops a metaphysical orientation of technological mediation in terms of several approaches. Postphenomenological approaches technological mediation in a relational and intentional context rather than providing a subject-object distinction. Actor-network theory improves the asymmetrical relation of humans and non-humans. Simondon and Harman provide for ontological analysis of tools and technology in human relationships. Critical theory of technology opens the chance that technological relations are not only neutral-instrumental but have transformative and emancipatory power. Therefore, the technological mediation approach can become a new subject in the metaphysics of technology discourse in overcoming the limitations of the classical philosophy of technology.

Abstract

Abstract

This article aims to provide an analytical description of Roy Bhaskar's epistemic fallacy and his critique of positivism and postmodernism. The research method uses literature study by referring to epistemology discourse, critical realism view, and the nature of epistemic fallacy. Epistemic fallacy accordingly is the anthropic fallacy because it contains inconsistency in the idea that the argument about being is to be investigated in terms of our knowledge of being. Critical realism finds reductionist and overlapping about what is and what is to be. The epistemic fallacy has also issued several misconceptions, such as uniformitarianism, declining open system, and flat ontology. Therefore, since ontology cannot be reduced into epistemology, relativistic epistemology is part of the Critical Realism notion to overcome solipsism and naïve universalism.

Abstract

New materialism initiates a reexamination of the body, agency, nature, objects, and everything materiality. Also, this article attempts to illustrate a general view of the environmental crisis based on the new materialism approach. The environmental crisis is very limited in the view of the metaphysical investigation. At the same time, so the proposal of a new materialism agency-structure configuration provides a broad understanding of the environmental crisis. The materiality of the world is not passively comprehended but instead lives and sustains itself, including the crisis itself. Its implication of shifting subject s decentralization goes beyond the limitation of the definition of subject and object, and goes further for the possibility of a new understanding of ecological crisis. Since this introspection and self-adaptation of multiple political decisions in an irreducibly pluriversal a world of many worlds are considered the actual, authentic, and with unblocking constraints touch the relation between human and non-human in the materiality of the more-than-human world.

Abstract

Environmental Education (EE) is currently receiving broad attention in formulating and implementing fostering students' character to be more environmentally conscious. This issue is also entangled with the global commitment to create a sustainable society. Indonesia experienced a curriculum transition from the K13 to Merdeka curricula; thus, integrating environmental problems into the new curricula is important. In general, the implementation of EE in schools can be divided into two approaches: integrating it into a specific syllabus and incorporating it into extracurricular or ceremonial school activities. Several obstacles have been identified during the implementation of EE, especially at the high school level and its equivalents, including EE being perceived as a burden on students' study time, a lack of coordination among relevant institutions, insufficient funding, and ineffective EE program formats. These findings are based on focus group discussions (FGDs) conducted in-depth interviews with Adiwiyata High School students to determine the implementation of PLH in schools and supporting literature reviews. To address these obstacles, this research adopts a geophilosophical perspective as a novel approach to support education and curricula that promote sustainable environmental awareness, both in affective and practical-contextual actions, by considering the importance of geographical agency in teaching and learning. Consequently, it was discovered that the geophilosophical approach could serve as an alternative model for curriculum development that is more flexible to strengthen Kurikulum Merdeka.

Abstract

Abstract. This paper explores the progress of human geography's incorporation of political issues as a form of oppositional movement against prevalent social problems, such as inequality, racism, gender, and environmental issues. The radicalisation of human geography on a methodological level emerged through the trajectory of Marxist thought, as advanced by David Harvey. Harvey’s interpretation of geography aligns with Marx and later thinkers, such as Henri Lefebvre, to uncover the spatial dimensions of capitalist domination. Critical geography then integrated various intellectual approaches—feminism, postcolonialism, and poststructuralism—to deconstruct and transform various forms of oppression. The inclusion of traditions beyond Marxism has broadened the discourse, all of which now fall under the umbrella term "critical geography." The current state of geography raises questions regarding the delineation of critical geography alongside other adjectival forms of geography ("physical geography”, "social geography”, "regional geography"). This study addresses these questions in several sections. First, it traces the historical development of critical geography from earlier geographic traditions, which sparked the emergence of radical methodologies. It also contextualises critical geography as an inclusive field that embraces various philosophical discourses. Second, the paper critically examines essential concepts within critical geography, followed by, third, an exploration of the methodologies that link diverse approaches and styles in critical geography. Fourth, it analyses the application of critical geography in the existing literature, highlighting its intersections with various fields and issues such as law, social activism, and disaster mitigation. Finally, the paper concludes with a reflective analysis of the term "critical" and its usage in the discourse of critical geography, reimagining geography in Indonesia in a way that allows for intensive interaction with the social sciences and humanities. This reflection outlines the multidisciplinary of geography by drawing insights from philosophy.Submitted: 2024-09-30 Revisions:  2025-02-17 Accepted: 2025-02-17 Published: 2025-02-18
