Abstract

Abstract

This study examines the development of systems thinking skills research in chemistry education. The method used is bibliometric analysis with the help of the VOSViewer application. The research was conducted in 4 stages, namely: 1) collecting publication data using the Scopus database using the keyword "System thinking in chemistry education," 2) processing data using Microsoft Excel application, 3) bibliometric computational mapping analysis using the VOSViewer application, and 4) analyzing the results of computational mapping. Publication data are articles from 2014 to 2023. This research is limited to system thinking skills in chemistry education. The results of the initial findings were re-selected so that 67 publications that met the requirements for research were obtained. Based on the results of computational mapping, it was found that research over the past ten years has fluctuated with the most publications in 2019, a total of 31 publications. This study provides a comprehensive overview and holistic perspective of systems thinking skills in chemistry education and directions for future research by integrating the analysis results with relevant reviews.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the feasibility and response of students to the developed electronic chemistry module. This development study was adapted from the Borg and Gall me development model which used 7 out of 10 stages which were limited to the product revision stage. The data of this study were obtained from interviews, material and media expert validation questionnaires, student response questionnaires on small-scale product trials. The results of material expert validation showed that the electronic chemistry module developed obtained an average percentage of 85.73% while the results of media expert validation obtained an average percentage result of 87.06% which was in the range of 84% < V 100% with the criteria very valid. In a small-scale product trial to determine student responses to the developed chemistry electronic module, the average percentage of 83,38% % in the range of 68% < V 84% in the good category. It can be concluded that the electronic chemistry module developed in this study is suitable for use as chemistry teaching materials for class X SMK students. Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

This study analyzes the profile of chemistry students’ systems thinking skills as a key competency for addressing the complex challenges of the 21st century. Systems thinking is essential for understanding the dynamic interrelationships among components within a system in an integrated and holistic manner. A descriptive quantitative approach was employed involving 108 chemistry education students from seven universities across Indonesia, consisting of 58 from rural areas and 50 from urban areas. Data were collected using the Dorani Systems Thinking Skills Test (D-STST), which was adapted to the higher education chemistry context. The results showed that students from urban areas achieved a higher mean score (M = 38.5) than those from rural areas (M = 34.91), indicating differences in systems thinking proficiency based on students’ residential backgrounds. These disparities are likely influenced by learning environments, access to educational resources, and academic experiences. The findings underscore the importance of implementing contextual, inquiry-based, and student-centered learning strategies to strengthen systems thinking skills and better prepare students for the demands of 21st-century education and global challenges.
