Abstract

This study discussed the factors that influence the improvement of students’ reading comprehension in narrative text.  By using SQ3R, it is an effective method to teach students reading comprehension. The method used in this research was descriptive research as the research design. The participants in the research study consisted of third-year students at SMPN 2 Kampar Kiri of Class 9.2. The results of this research are: first, the student’s interest in using the SQ3R reading method found from interviews the research which showed that they were interested and enjoyed learning reading using the SQ3R reading method. Second, the students’ motivation in reading. It was also found from the interviews done during the research that they had more motivation to be involved in the reading class. Third, the use of the SQ3R reading method had given more advantages in learning reading text; they could comprehend the text easily and answer the question quickly. Thus, this method is effective to use in comprehending reading the narrative text. It can improve students’ ability in understanding the text. Therefore, the SQ3E method is suitable to be implemented in teaching reading comprehension.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the transformation of English pedagogy in the context of distance education in the digital era. With the advancement of technology, distance education has become a primary alternative for delivering instructional content, including in English language teaching. This research employs a qualitative approach using the library research method to identify the challenges and opportunities in teaching English through distance education. The findings indicate that although there are challenges related to teacher readiness and limited access to technology for students, the digital era also offers significant opportunities to enrich learning through various interactive media and cross-cultural collaboration. Technology-based learning models, such as blended learning and flipped classroom, enhance student engagement and make learning more flexible. The study underscores the importance of developing digital competencies for teachers and ensuring adequate technological infrastructure for effective pedagogical transformation.

Abstract

Due to the different aspects of the source language and the target language, there are some techniques involved in the translation process to achieve the equivalence of the translation result. This study is aimed at analyzing the dominant translation techniques as proposed by Molina and Albir (2002) used by the third year students of the English Department in translating report text from Indonesian into English. Descriptive research was used to examine this research and also translation test and interview were used to collect research data online. The sample of this research was 36 students who learned translation study. There were several results that the researchers found while conducting the research. The results of this research that have obtained in this study were the most dominant technique used by students in translating report text was established equivalent.The function of this research is to give additional information to the readers about the techniques used in translating the texts.
