Abstract

Reopening schools during the COVID-19 pandemic requires the full consideration of parents’ decisions due to the worry of exposure for their children. This study evaluated parents’ preparedness for offline learning decisions among elementary school children during the COVID-19 pandemic. This is a cross-sectional study with 134 parents as respondents. The consecutive sampling technique was used. The online questionnaire was distributed on social media to collect data from various regions in Indonesia. The finding indicated that 99 (73%) parents sent their children for offline learning from July to November 2021 for one to three times a week (44.8%) and one to three hours a day (46.8%). The significant factor for parents’ decisions was school preparedness for COVID-19 prevention (p < 0.05). However, parents' preparedness for self-protection and the child's mental condition had no significant relationship because almost all parents were already prepared for these factors (> 95%). Therefore, the government and primary health care have a vital role in supervising and providing a safe environment for children during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Abstract

Introduction: The government has issued a new policy to hold face-to-face meetings at schools in July 2021 following the decreased of positive confirmed cases of COVID-19 in children, increasing public discipline in health protocols implementation and most teachers have been vaccinated. However, the parents still worry about the spread of COVID-19 in school which creates anxiety for parents. Method: This study used a quantitative method with a cross-sectional survey approach. The population in this study were all parents of elementary school students (SD) in Indonesia. The sampling technique is non-probability sampling with a consecutive sampling approach where the researcher distributes the instrument online on social media. Data collection will be carried out in Sep – Nov 2022.Result: The majority of children who participated in offline learning were in grade 1-3 (76; 57.1%). The majority of education level of mothers (95; 70.9%) and fathers (95; 70.9%) were high education. Most of mothers (73; 54.5%) and fathers (103; 76.8%) had income more than three million rupiah. Most children participated in offline learning in July-December 2021 (85; 63.4%). Offline learning was held in 1-3 times a week (61; 45.5%) that occurs in 1-3 hours for day (68;50.7%). Conclusion: The implementation of offline learning is mostly held after June 2022, but there were several students who participated since 2020. There is variation of implementation offline learning from one to six days in a week

Abstract

Kaluku Bodoa Community Health Center in Tallo District is among the top three areas with the highest incidence of low birth weight (LBW) cases in Makassar, recording 48 cases in 2022. A 2024 study revealed that many LBW infants had not received neonatal home visits and did not possess the Small Baby MCH Book, further exacerbated by the lack of socialization and training among health workers. Through the integration of the Healthy Indonesia Program with Family Approach (PIS-PK), empowering community health cadres in small baby care is essential to prevent stunting. This community service program aimed to enhance cadre capacity through managerial training, utilization of the Small Baby MCH Book, and the establishment of an online support forum for mothers with small infants. The activities were implemented through technical training on the integration of the Small Baby MCH Book and health education using a health coaching approach for health workers and cadres, followed by mentoring sessions at pilot Posyandu through book distribution and educational sessions using visual and guideline-based media The results of the activity demonstrated an increase in the average knowledge and skills of community health cadres and maternal and child health (MCH) healthcare providers in delivering services for mothers and infants with a history of low birth weight, with scores improving from 46.7 on the pre-test to 60.4 on the post-test., and successfully initiated the implementation of a dedicated Posyandu for LBW infants. Targeted care for small babies is a crucial effort to prevent future growth and developmental disorders, emphasizing the need for special attention and differentiated care from health professionals and cadres.

Abstract

Introduction: This study aimed to identify family, caregiver, patient, nurse, and healthcare service factors associated with caregivers’ ability to support medication adherence among relatives with mental disorders. Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted between February and June 2024 at seven community health centers (Puskesmas) in Makassar, Indonesia. Purposive sampling was used to recruit 155 caregivers. Questionnaires were validated prior to data collection. Bivariate associations were examined using the chi-square test, and factors associated with caregivers’ ability to support medication adherence were analyzed using multivariate logistic regression. Results: The multivariate model was statistically significant (model χ²  =  42.87, p < 0.001; Nagelkerke R² = 0.32). In bivariate analyses, the caregiver’s ability to support patients’ medication adherence was associated with family functioning, caregiver factors (gender, stress, motivation, knowledge), patient factors (relapse frequency, severity level), and nurse psychological factors. In the multivariate analysis, family economic status (AOR = 0.22, 95% CI = 0.07–0.69, p = 0.010), family functioning (AOR  =  2.58, 95% CI = 1.19–5.58, p = 0.016), caregiver motivation (AOR = 0.29, 95% CI = 0.12–0.73, p = 0.008), and caregiver knowledge (AOR = 0.40, 95% CI = 0.16–0.96, p = 0.041) remained significantly associated with caregiver ability to support medication adherence. Conclusions: These results suggest that family factors and caregiver psychosocial preparedness play critical roles in facilitating adherence-related caregiving practices. Strengthening family functioning and caregiver motivation and knowledge may improve support for medication adherence.
