Abstract

This research gives an account of how to enhance the students' phonetic transcription and word stress mastery of pronunciation through drilling method. That was obviously proved that the fourth-semester students' mastery of pronunciation was unsatisfactory. They were often found mispronounce English words. Meanwhile, phonetic transcription and word stress are considered as the main pronunciation features as a basis for having a good pronunciation. Then, drilling method was used in this research since it is an essential part of classroom pronunciation work and is also possibly the time in the lesson when the students are more reliant on the teacher. Besides, drilling is also fundamental to help students remember new items. However, this study was a classroom action research, which consisted of two cycles and each of cycles consisted of four phases. The second cycle was done based on the reflection in the first cycle by revising some drawbacks. The participants of the research were the fourth-semester students of English language education study program of STKIP PGRI Trenggalek. The data collection methods of this research had been obtained from pronunciation test and observation. Then, the data of this research were analyzed qualitatively and quantitatively. The research findings proved that the implementation of drilling method effectively enhanced the students‘ progressive achievement from the preliminary study to the first and the second cycle and to finally meet the success criteria toward learning outcome stated in the syllabus.

Abstract

Vocabulary is important; it is as the core of language complexities and as a starting point of those who are learning a new language. The purpose of this study was to identify the EFL learners’ needs for learning English vocabulary. The identification of learners’ needs was conducted to all active students of English Language education studying program of STKIP PGRI Trenggalek. It used the open-closed questionnaire. Research findings of analyzed data found a number of the students’ crucial target and learning needs for vocabulary learning which was ordered with its complexity, depth, prerequisite and relevancy such as; part of speech, morphemes, affixation, word families, collocations, synonym and antonym, homophone and homograph, word in comparison, punctuations, forming new words (blending, compounding, clipping, acronym), phrases, idioms and a special material of strategies of vocabulary learning. In addition, all mentioned materials were needed to be presented in a contextual, meaningful and useful way.

Abstract

The objective of this research is to develop A Thematic Integrated English Vocabulary Glossary for EYL In Trenggalek as a book/guideline for English language learning based on the 2013 curriculum of PAUD at PAUD level. This research uses R&D research design, a research design aimed at developing educational products, such as curriculum, syllabus, books, instructional media, etc. The B class student of BA Aisyiyah Suruh in 2018/2019 academic year consist of 12 students; 5 students of female and 7 students of male students. The researcher used questionnaire and interview as instrument of the research. The data obtained from questionnaires are analyzed quantitatively, while interview data is analyzed qualitatively. The products have been developed based on the needs of students, teachers, and parents, studying theory of R&D, studying theory of thematic learning, studying theory of vocabulary, studying theory of glossary and studying theory of EYL. The product has been developed through five steps of development. Based on the result of students' needs, its score was 78%, then student parents score was 774, and the result of teacher interviews showed that the teachers needed this product. It shows that all respondents agree that they need this product as a book/guideline in thematic English learning complying with the 2013 curriculum of PAUD. Meanwhile, the result of field testing the product of the students showed a percentage of 92%, 785 scores of students’ parents’ feedback, and positive responses to the teacher’s interviews. It indicates that the product of this research results is feasible to be used as a book/guideline for English language learning based on the 2013 curriculum of PAUD at PAUD level.

Abstract

A scientific approach is a learning process that is designed in such a way that students actively construct concepts, laws, or principles. Meanwhile, a STEAM approach is an integrated approach that combines science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics as a means of developing student skills in the 21st century. The research aims to investigate and describe the crucial changes from the scientific approach in the 2013 curriculum to the STEAM approach in the Merdeka Curriculum. The research used is qualitative and focuses on documentary studies. The research instrument used observational field notes sourced from literature such as books, scientific journals, and reference books. The data were analyzed in a qualitatively descriptive way. The research Findings showed that there are several crucial changes from the scientific approach in the 2013 curriculum to the STEAM approach in the Merdeka Curriculum, namely in terms of objectives, principles, and learning stages.

Abstract

Kampus Mengajar is a program that offers college students the opportunity to engage in off-campus learning for a duration of one semester. As part of this program, students become teaching partners, contributing to innovative and creative strategies and models in targeted educational units. The primary focus is on enhancing students' literacy and numeracy skills within the designated schools. The research's objective was to uncover and describe the perspectives of English college students who participated in the Kampus Mengajar program. Employing a qualitative research approach, the study centered around phenomenological studies. Data analysis was conducted using the triangulation theory and the likert scale. The study's subject pool consisted of 20 English college students enrolled in the Kampus Mengajar program. Validation of the research instrument was achieved through Pearson Correlation and Cronbach's Alpha. Research findings underscored that English college students attending elementary schools expressed strong agreement with the Kampus Mengajar program. Similarly, participants from the junior high school level also conveyed their agreement with the program. Moreover, the study identified several issues faced by English college students upon joining the national Kampus Mengajar program
