Abstract

Efforts to attract students' interest in the learning process need to be carried out by the teacher. In the 21st century, the use of technology is the main key to applying interesting and fun learning media, especially in French listening skills. The difficulty of students in listening to foreign language speech is often encountered because they have insufficient background knowledge to support their hearing. For this reason, the application of technology-based learning media, especially virtual reality in French, can be done. This research is included in the development research design. The development steps according to the Lee and Owens (2004) development model include (1) analysis, (2) design, (3) development, (4) implementation, and (5) evaluation (evaluation). The data collection technique used was in the form of a document study to determine the material to be developed based on the Alter Ego 1+ textbook. The material is analyzed first, then applied to virtual reality-based learning media. The use of this media can be a good strategy to motivate students in listening skills.

Réception Écrite learning is currently carried out using the book Alter Ego Plus A1. The book is not multimodal. Therefore, it is necessary to develop teaching materials for multimodal-based Réception Écrite courses. Questionnaires were employed to get students' perceptions of the need for multimodal-based Réception Écrite teaching materials. The respondents to this questionnaire were 40 students for the 2021 academic year. The questionnaire employed has been validated by experts. The data obtained from the questionnaire were analyzed using descriptive statistics by calculating percentages. Generally, students already knew and understood a multimodal text. However, in the Réception Écrite course, only 40% of students studied multimodal texts. Students agreed to the use of multimodal texts. They needed multimodal-based Reception Ecrite teaching materials because, currently, there were no multimodal-based textbooks in the French Language Education Study Program. Abstract

This research is based on observations from Phonétique du français lectures which show that students still have difficulty understanding the content of the lecture material. This is due to the fact that most of the sources of lecture material are reference books and journal articles with a high level of French at a minimum level of B1, especially since the lecture language is in French. Meanwhile, students' French level is still low, equivalent to A2 level. For this reason, this research was conducted to overcome problems in Phonétique du français lectures by developing Phonetique du francais teaching materials for micro learning. To develop phonétique du français teaching materials, the EDDIE method is used which includes 5 stages, namely; analysis stage, design stage, development stage, implementation stage, and evaluation stage. In this research, only the analysis stage to the design stage was carried out. At the analysis stage, an analysis is carried out which includes: 1) an Analysis of the number of lecture hours, 2) Analysis of learning objectives, 3) an Analysis of the coverage of Phonétique du français lecture material, 4) an Analysis of the micro learning model used. The design stage includes learning objectives, lecture material content, selected assessment methods and frequency. Thus, this research is only at the design stage, namely the development of phonetique du francais teaching materials by CECRL which uses micro learning (infographics, explanatory videos, short videos, and podcasts). The results of this research have implications for the Phonétique du français lecture process which is designed according to CECRL and according to students' French language skills and microlearning methods that can motivate students to understand the content of Phonétique du français lectures.

Abstract

Interesting learning is the dream of every educator and student, especially in distance learning. The use of technology is the primary key in applying learning media to support 21st-century skills. The main reason for analyzing the need for virtual reality-based learning media is that there are not yet varied learning media and the difficulty of making and finding the appropriate learning media, especially for French listening skills. This study aimed to analyze the needs related to virtual reality-based learning media in the DELF A1 French listening skills course appropriate to the current situation during the pandemic. This study focuses on the perspectives of lecturers and students regarding the need for virtual reality-based learning media, especially in the French listening skills of DELF A1 at the French Language Education Study Program. This research used the research and development design. Data were collected through observation, documentation, and questionnaire distributed to 55 students and 6 lecturers. Data analysis was carried out using three phases, including data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing/verification. This study showed that the use of virtual reality-based learning media in listening skills is crucial and needed by lecturers and students. It was proven with the lecturers and students’ statements that 70% of the lecturers strongly agreed and 30% agreed, and 67% of the students agreed and 33.3% strongly agreed. Therefore, this needs to be done so that it can be a solution for students and lecturers regarding the application of technology-based interactive learning media and the addition of teaching materials from the Alter Ego1+ book used in the French Language Education Study Program. As a result, the learning atmosphere is more interesting and effective and invites students to feel the sensation of being in a real situation in the conversation.

Abstract

This research aims to describe the types of French cultural identity in the first part of Fary's stand up comedy show video entitled Hexagone. This research uses the main theory of Multiple Cultural Identity Types (CITs) which originates from the book Intercultural Communication: A Reader 14th Edition by Larry A. Samovar, Richard E. Porter, Edwin R. McDaniel, and Carolyn Sexton Roy (2014). There are six (6) types of cultural identities included in the Multiple Cultural Identity Types (CITs) theory, namely National and Ethnic Cultures, Sex and Gender, Profession, Geographic Area, Corporation, Physical Ability and Disability. This research uses a content analysis method which consists of three (3) stages, namely (1) Data collection by looking at words, phrases, and sentences from data sources, (2) Data classification by understanding the meaning as well as speeches from data sources and grouping words, phrases and sentences used as research data, (3) Data analysis by analyzing the data that has been found and making conclusions. The analysis technique in this research uses interactive model data analysis from Miles and Huberman with three (3) stages, namely (1) Data reduction by simplifying or narrowing data according to theory, (2) Data presentation using diagrams and narrative text on interpretation data, (3) Withdrawal of Conclusions/Verification by drawing conclusions based on the results of the research as well as answering the formulation of the problem. The results of this research indicate that there are thirty (30) speeches indicating types of French cultural identity in the first part of Fary's stand up comedy show video entitled Hexagone. The thirty (30) speeches are divided into eighteen (18) speeches on the cultural identity of the National and Ethnic Culture, seven (7) speeches on the cultural identity of the Geographic Area, two (2) speeches on the cultural identity Sex and Gender, two (2) speeches on the cultural identity of the Profession, one (1) speech on the cultural identity of the Corporation, and zero (0) speech on the cultural identity of the Physical Ability and Disability because the type of that cultural identity was not found in the data source.
