Abstract

Fish has been widely known for its usage in increasing the growth of children, due to its nutritional contents, such as protein and zinc that can accelerate the increase of children’s heights and weights in the growth period. This community service activity aims to increase fish consumption in elementary school students, especially those suffering from stunting through processing fish into nugget products. The activity carried out was in the form of training on processing fish nuggets using lemuru fish with the addition of durian seed flour to mothers with stunting children at SDN 104255 Paluh Sibaji Village, Pantai Labu District, Deli Serdang Regency. This activity then was continued by offering the students to consume nuggets of lemuru fish durian seeds flour. As a result, the nuggets were considered favorable by the students. The post test involving questions about stunting was conducted to measure the knowledge of each parent in this case. The data showed that parents had high enthusiasm in solving stunting issues due to the increase on average of post test points (8.03), which was two times higher than before (4.81). The outcome of this training was to gain new skills and knowledge to students’ mothers in decreasing stunting cases by serving affordable nutrient-rich food to their children.

Abstract

Anemia remains a common comorbidity complicating over 28% of pregnancy in Indonesia by 2023, Iron deficiency anemia is the most common, and to date, ferritin serum has been used as a diagnostic marker, but has not been routinely examined in pregnant women, thus hindering the accurate diagnosis of iron deficiency anemia in pregnant women. Our study aimed to examine ferritin serum among pregnant women, as well as, to investigate the prevalence of iron deficiency anemia in the Dalu Sepuluh Health Center of Deli Serdang Regency. A total of 60 pregnant women were randomly selected to participate in this cross-sectional study. We found that iron deficiency anemia was most common in pregnant women aged 20 – 35 years old (75%), with second-trimester pregnancy (36.7%), multigravida, and multiparity. Interestingly, 57% of pregnant women were considered malnourished (upper arm circumference of < 23.5 cm) which was found in 36.7% of primigravida and is associated with moderate iron deficiency anemia (71.4%), marked with < 30µg/L ferritin serum (p < 0.05). Cut-off point of serum ferritin was 28.98 ng/dL with a sensitivity of 92% and a specificity of 91.4%, indicating that the body's iron levels are in low condition. This study indicated that lower levels of ferritin serum are associated with anemia in pregnant women. We suggested that ferritin serum be put as a mandatory routine examination in pregnancy.

Abstract

The increasing volume and complexity of medical image data have presented significant challenges for healthcare professionals in delivering timely and accurate diagnoses. Traditional diagnostic processes are often time-consuming and prone to human error, underscoring the need for automated solutions. This study aims to develop a pattern recognition system to automate medical diagnosis using image data, thereby improving diagnostic accuracy and efficiency. A hybrid methodology was employed, combining image preprocessing, feature extraction using convolutional neural networks (CNNs), and classification through deep learning algorithms. The system was trained and validated using publicly available medical image datasets across various disease types. The results demonstrate high diagnostic accuracy, with the system achieving over 92% precision in identifying disease patterns from image inputs. Furthermore, the model exhibited robustness across different imaging modalities, such as X-rays, MRIs, and CT scans. These findings suggest that the proposed pattern recognition system can serve as a reliable support tool for medical practitioners. In conclusion, the integration of image-based pattern recognition in medical diagnostics holds significant promise in enhancing clinical decision-making processes and reducing diagnostic errors.

Abstract

Stunting is a major public health issue with long-term effects on the quality of human resources. The prevalence of stunting in South Tapanuli Regency increased from 30.8% in 2021 to 39.8% in 2022. This study aims to identify risk factors contributing to stunting in toddlers. The study employs a cross-sectional design with a correlational approach. The sample consists of 350 toddlers selected through purposive sampling, with data collected via structured interviews. The main contributing factors to stunting include a history of low birth weight (p=0.009), the introduction of complementary feeding before six months of age (p=0.000), and incomplete immunization status, which increases the risk of stunting with an odds ratio (OR) of 2.510. Virtual care is associated with a stable or improved HRQOL and patient and family satisfaction in pediatric T1DM. Decision makers need to consider expanding virtual access to pediatric diabetes care that can improve equitable access to quality care across healthcare systems globally.

Abstract

SSGI (Nutritional Status Study of Indonesia) survey in 2021 found that prevalence of stunted infants in Sumatera Utara province is still higher (25.8%) than the national limit. It is known that stunting is multifactorial condition with breastmilk/weaning food feeding behavior as one of the contributing factor. Furthermore, family’s attitude toward consuming wide variety diets is also considered as factors related to stunting. Secondary data from SSGI 2021 involving 10,755 households was used in this study. STATA application was used to help analyzing the data. Statistical analysis was conducted by using Chi Square and showed that breastmilk/weaning food feeding behavior, and varied diets in family were not contributing factors of stunting in Sumatera Utara province. However, we found that educational background was significant contributing factor to stunting (p = 0.000). We suggest that other approach, such as qualitative measure may be used in future study to investigate factors attributable to stunting.

Abstract

Anemia is a health problem throughout the world, especially in developing countries, an estimated 30% of the world's population suffer from anemia. In Indonesia based on the results of the Basic Health Research (BHR), the prevalence of anemia in pregnant women of Indonesia in 2018 was 48.9% higher than in 2013 which was 37.1% and in 2007 of 24.5%. Dates palm are type of fruit that is rich in iron. Iron is needed in the formation of heme which can increase hemoglobin levels. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of Ajwa date palm to increase hemoglobin levels in third trimester pregnant women at the Sumiariani Clinic and Pratama Sari Clinic in 2019 This type of research was quasy experiment with one group pretest-postest approach with accidental sampling, the population is third trimester pregnant women as many as 40 respondents. Based on data collection and analysis and data is normal. The results of univariate analysis: the average change in hemoglobin levels before and after the administration of date palm extracts that is before the intervention (9.97 gr / dL) and after (10.38 gr / dL). And the results of bivariate analysis are the results of Dependent T-Test statistical test, the average hemoglobin level obtained before and after the intervention with p value = 0.00 <? = 0.05. Abstract

Stunting is a condition of failure to thrive in children under five due to chronic malnutrition. One cause of stunting is poor parenting patterns such as feeding in the first 2 years after birth. Exclusive breastfeeding is the best nutrition a baby receives in the first 6 months of life. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship of exclusive breastfeeding with the decrease of stunting in children aged 6-23 months in Sosor Lontung Village, Siempat Nempu District, Dairi Regency. This study used a cross-sectional study design. The sample of this research was children aged 6-23 months as many as 39 people. Data collection was carried out by interview and measurement of children's length / height. Univariate and bivariate data analysis used Chi Square test with ?-value <0.05. Based on the bivariate analysis showed that there was a significant relationship between exclusive breastfeeding and the incidence of stunting with ?-value 0.037. The results showed the percentage of stunting in children aged 6-23 months was greater in children who were not given exclusive breastfeeding (50%) than those who received exclusive breastfeeding (17.65%). The results of bivariate analysis showed that there was a significant relationship between exclusive breastfeeding and the incidence of stunting with a value-value of 0.037. That is, exclusive breastfeeding can reduce the risk of stunting is getting smaller. It is hoped that all babies will receive exclusive breastfeeding so that the baby can grow optimally.
