Abstract

To ascertain the accuracy and usability of the instructional model, it must be verified by a professional or expert in the area of the subject content. The automated model of the human heart (3-DAMHH) has to be inspected and verified by a qualified biology education expert to ascertain its accuracy while the usability has to be verified by an educational technology expert. Hence, it is needed to determine the experts’ validation of 3-DAMHH to teach a Biology concept in Ilorin, Nigeria. Two instruments were developed: Educational Technology Experts’ Rating Scale and Biology Education Experts’ Rating Scale. Percentage scores were used to answer research questions. Findings of this study revealed the percentage score of the rating for the validation of the 3-DAMHH by the experts satisfied the required standard in the field of Educational Technology. Percentage score of the rating for the validation of the 3-DAMHH by the experts satisfied the required standard in the field of Biology. This study concluded that the developed 3-DAMHH can be used to enhanced Biology students’ performance on the topic structure of the human heart. It was recommended among others that content specialists' and experts’ validation reports should be properly followed towards developing a standard instructional media.

Abstract

One significant innovative technology to expand teaching and learning mostly in Distance Education is Learning Management System (LMS). LMS allow learning institutions to offer a larger number of courses online whether full or blended, by providing institutions with a digital space for numerous purpose which includes documentation, tracking and online training. However, for the relevance of LMS within an education context, distance learners’ attitudes towards the use of LMS must be investigated. The study therefore aimed at examining the Attitude of Distance Learners towards the Utilization of LMS (A case study of the National Open University of Nigeria). Data were collected from 697 respondents using a research adapted questionnaire. Data collected for the study were analyzed using mean and standard deviation to answer research question one while hypotheses one and two were tested using independent t-test and ANOVA respectively. The findings indicated that there was a significant difference between male and female distance learners on their attitude toward the use of LMS. Thus, no significant difference existed among science, arts, and social science distance learners’ attitude towards the use of LMS. It was therefore recommended that efforts should be made to ensure that distance learners do not just have a positive attitude towards the use of LMS but should be taught the value of LMS to ensure its effective utilization.

Abstract

This study determined university students’ awareness of, access to, and use of artificial Intelligence for learning in Kwara State. The study adopted descriptive research of the survey type. This study adopted a descriptive research design of the survey method and employed a three-sectioned questionnaire to elicit information from the respondents. The sample size included a multistage sample of 200 undergraduates across three universities in Kwara state.  Descriptive statistics and inferential statistics were employed to answer and test the formulated hypotheses at a 0.05 level of significance. The findings of the study were that majority of the university students are not aware of Artificial intelligence for learning and there was no significant difference between male and female university students’ awareness of the use of artificial intelligence for learning. This study concluded that students' ability to explore digital resources such as AI is dependent on their awareness and access to digital technologies. A lack of these will result in a lack of use and lack of skill to use them.

Abstract

The adoption of online instructional tools has gained significant attention in higher education, particularly in Colleges of Education. This study investigated students' perception, ease of use, and intention to utilize online instructional tools for learning in North Central Nigeria. A descriptive correlational research design was employed, and data were collected from a representative sample of College of Education students using a structured questionnaire. The findings indicated a generally positive perception of online instructional tools among students. Additionally, students perceive these tools as easy to use, which further reinforces their willingness to adopt them for learning. The study also revealed that students demonstrated a strong positive intention toward utilizing online tools in their academic activities. Furthermore, a robust positive correlation was identified between students' perception of online instructional tools and their perceived ease of use, suggesting that favorable perceptions significantly influence usability. These findings underscored the importance of fostering a supportive digital learning environment to enhance technology-driven instructional practices. The study recommends targeted interventions to improve accessibility, digital literacy, and infrastructural support to optimize students’ engagement with online learning platforms. Future research should explore the moderating effects of demographic and institutional factors on students’ technology adoption.

Abstract

This study investigated the awareness and perception of the utilization of Open Educational Resources (OER) for learning among primary education undergraduates at the University of Ilorin. The study adopted the descriptive research of survey type. This study was limited to the primary education undergraduate students in the Adult and Primary Education Department, University of Ilorin. 150 undergraduates were randomly selected from the department. Structured questionnaires were used to elicit a response from the respondents. The finding of this study shows that undergraduate students are aware of OER's learning tools. Primary education undergraduate students’ perception towards OERs tool for learning is positive, there are factors inhibiting effective use of OER for learning among students, undergraduate students used OERs site for learning, and there was no significant difference between male and female undergraduates’ perception of OER tools for learning. Based on the findings of this research, the following recommendation was made. Lecturers should endeavor to put their scholastic publications in the public domain of their institutions, as this will help the student to lay hands on more quality materials and the government should provide funds to ensure the stability of the OER movement.

Abstract

This study examined the Effect of the Multimedia Instructional Approach (MIA) on the English writing performance of pre-service technical teachers in Southwestern Nigeria. The study adopted a quasi-experimental design of the pre-test post-test non-equivalent control group design to compare the performance of students who are exposed to MIA and those that are not. The population for this study consists of the college of education students located in the South-West geo-political zone of Nigeria. Four Colleges of Education were purposively sampled out of the 7 state-owned colleges of education from southwestern Nigeria.  The following research instruments were adopted for the study: English Writing Performance Tests (EWPT) set A; EWPT Set B; and Multimedia Instructional Software Package. The reliability coefficient of the instruments was calculated at a reliability coefficient of 0.82. Mean, standard deviation, and analysis of covariance (ANCOVA) were used for data analyses at 0.05 level of significance. The findings of the study revealed that MIA was effective for teaching English language writing and there is no significant difference between males and females in the English writing performance of the pre-service technical teachers taught through MIA. This study concluded that MIA for English writing is an important variable because it is better to predict students’ writing performance in the English Language than the conventional method of teaching.
