Abstract

Hyperlipidemia is a condition when high level of blood lipids and causes morphologicalchanges in spermatozoa. Red dragon fruit (Hylocereus Polyrhizus) is one of the plantsas a source of antioxidants and has unsaturated fat content that is needed in thespermatozoa maturation process. The aims of this the study is to determine the benefitsof red dragon fruit extract on the motility of white rat spermatozoa (Rattus norvegius)induced by high-fat diet. The study is design by true experimental research andresearch only testing group design. This research conducted in the Pharmacology andTherapy Laboratory, Padjajaran University Education Hospital, in January 2020 usingwhite rats, male . ± 8 weeks wistar strains weighing ± 200-250. The study sample wasdivided into several groups such group I as a control, group II as a negative control, group III as positive group with simvastatin dose 0.72 mg / day, group IV as researchgroup 1 using red dragon fruit extract dose of 60 mg / 200 grBB / day for 52 days, andgroup V as group 2 therapy using dragon fruit extract dose of 60 mg / 200grBB / dayfor 104 days. The results showed that the mean percentage of motility of ratspermatozoa increased in the relief group with the supplement of red dragon fruitextract by dosing of 60 mg / 200 grBB / day for 104 days, or 51, 2%. This studyconclude that red dragon fruit has a superior effectivity better than simvastatin inincreasing the motility of spermatozoa.

Abstract

Abstract Phytoplankton is a primary producer organism in aquatic ecosystem and it supplies oxygen to the waters through photosynthesis process. A research aim to determine types and abundance of phytoplankton in the PTPN V Sei Pagar Reservoir has been carried out on July-August 2019. Sampling taken at three stations, namely station 1 (inlet area), station 2 (central area) and station 3 (outlet area), once/week. The water quality parameters measured were temperature, transparency, depth, pH, DO, free CO2, nitrate (NO3-) and phosphate (PO43-). Result shown there were 48 species phytoplankton that consist of 10 classes, namely Chlorophyceae (14 species), Cyanophyceae (3 species), Euglenophyceae (6 spesoies), Zygnematophyceae (5 species), Trebouxiophyceae (3 species), Dynophyceae (1 species), Cryptophyceae (1 species), Crysophyceae (1 species), Xantophyceae (1 species) and Bacillariophyceae (13 species). The abundance of phytoplankton in PTPN V Sei Pagar Reservoir ranges from 6,660-33,264 cells/L. The water quality parameters were as follows: transparency 47-54 cm, temperatures 27-29 0C, pH 6, DO 4.77-6.92 mg/L, free CO2 6.65-13.98 mg/L, phosphate 0.018-0.038 mg/L, nitrate 0.905-1.23 mg/L. Based on phytoplankton abundance, PTPN V Sei Pagar Reservoir can be categorized as oligotrophic-mesotrophic.

Abstract

ABSTRACT   Background: Epidemiological studies indicate that low back pain (LBP) is not only experienced by the elderly but also affects the younger population. The presence of LBP in medical students can impact their functionality and daily practices after graduation. This study aims to provide an overview of the prevalence of LBP among medical students at the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Pembangunan Nasional Veteran Jakarta. Methods: The study included a total of 738 subjects representing clinical and four levels of undergraduate programs. The Nordic questionnaire and the Oswestry Disability Index (ODI) were employed to assess LBP and its impact on daily life. Results: The prevalence of LBP was 61.2%, with 6.6% experiencing moderate disability. Gender, exercise habits, and a family history of LBP were statistically significant. Conclusion: Institutions need to implement interventions to mitigate LBP among medical students.
