Abstract

This research has been done from March to April 2014 in the Bakuok Lake,Aursati Village, Tambang Subdistrict, Kampar District, Riau Province. This research aimsto understand the vertical profil of nitrate in this lake. The research used survey method.The nitrate samples were collected from three station namely station I at inlet of lake,station II in the middle of lake and station III in the end of lake. There were three samplingsites in each station were in the surface, 1,5 Secchi depth and bottom. Sampling was donethree times, once a week. The result shown nitrate concentration in surface : 0,01-0,03mg/L, in 1,5 Secchi depth 0,03-0,06 mg/L and in the bottom 0,05-0,12 mg/L. The nitrateconcentration in surface lower than in the 1,5 Secchi depth and in the bottom and nitrateconcentration increase with the depth. Water quality result shown pH:6, DO: 1,78-5,33mg/L, CO2: 4,66-15,31 mg/L, depth: 208-332 cm, transparency: 74,3-93,7 cm andtemperature: 29,6-30oC. Based on data obtained, it can be concluded the consentration ofnitrate in Bakuok Lake showed the trophic status was Oligotrophic and water quality stillsupport the life of aquatic organisms.Keywords: nitrate, the vertical profile, Bakuok Lake

Abstract

The research was conducted in February-March 2014 in Lake Danau Pinang Dalam. Theresearch aims to understand the vertical profile of Dissolved Oxygen in Pinang Dalam Oxbowlake. The research used survey method. Sample were taken in three stations, namely station 1,station 2 and station 3. Sampling vertical based on depth, at surface, 2,5 secchi disk and in thebottom. The parameter of water quality measured pH, temperature, nitrate, phosphate, depth,transparancy, and dissolved oxygen (DO). The result shown concentration of dissolved oxygenrange 2,04-5,29 mg/L, concentration of nitrate range 0,02-0,34 mg/L and the concentration ofphosphate range 0,01-0,71 mg/L. The value of temperature was 28,50C, depth range of 145-302cm. Abstract

Periphyton is a group of aquatic microorganism that grew in the surface of natural substrates such as rock, wood, plants and aquatic animals. A research aims to understand the periphyton composition in the Salo River was conducted in April to May 2015. Sampling were conducted in 3 stations, they were in the upstream (St1), midstream (St 2), downstream (St 3), 4 times, once/ week. Results shown that there were 42 periphyton species present and they are belonged to 4 classes, namely Bacillariophyceae (28 species), Cyanophyceae (6 species), Chlorophyceae (7 species) and Dynophyceae (1 species). The abundance of periphyton in the upstream, midstream and downstream Salo River is significantly different, there were upstream (630 cell/cm2), midstream (1,499 cell/cm2), and downstream (4,545 cell/cm2) respectively. Periphyton abundance in the Salo River in general was around 630 – 4,545 cells /cm2.Keywords : Salo River, Periphyton, Composition

Abstract

The Solok Pulau Lake is an oxbow lake that receive water from the Tangon and Kampar Rivers. To understand the concentration of chlorophyll-a in the lake, this research was conducted from January to February 2015 in Solok Pulau Lake. Water samples were collected from three station, namely station1 (in the inlet from the Tangon River, station2 in the middle of the lake and station3 in the inlet from the Kampar River). Water quality parameters measured were transparency, temperature, dissolved oxygen, depth, pH, velocity, nitrates and phosphates concentration. Results shown the chlorophyll-a concentration ranged from 0.013- 0.016 (μg/L), transparency of 42-50 cm, temperature 28.3-28.70C, dissolved oxygen 1.56 to 2.17 mg/L, depth 1.56 to 2.17 mg/L, pH 5.5 and velocity 15-16 cm/sec. Based on chlorophyll-a concentration, it can be concluded the Solok Pulau Lake was oligotrophic.Key words :chlorophyll-a, Solok Pulau Lake, water quality, Tangon River and Kampar River.

Abstract

Periphyton is a sessile microscopic organisms that attach on certain substrate. A research aims to understand the biomass of periphyton in the SaloRiver based on its Ash Free Dry Mass (AFDM) in ceramic substrate, a study has been carried out in July-August 2015. There were 3 stations, namely Station 1 (in the upstream), Station 2 (in the midlle part of the stream) and Station 3 (in the downstream) for placing the ceramic substrate and for taking the water samples. Samplings were conducted 4 times, once/week. The periphyton samples were scrapped from the surface of ceramic substrate (10 cm x 3 cm). The number of ceramic sampled in each station were 10, 7 and 5 pieces in Station 1, Station 2 and Station 3 respectively. Results shown that periphyton biomass in the Salo River in general was around 0.449–2.834 mg/cm2. The periphyton biomass in the ceramic substrate placed in the Station 1, Station 2 and Station 3 was significantly different, there were 0.449 mg/cm2, 1.442 mg/cm2, and 2.834 mg/cm2 respectively. In general, the periphyton biomass in the downstream was higher than those of the other areas, indicated that the productivity in the downstream was the highest.Keywords: Salo River, Periphyton, Ceramic Substrate, Biomass (AFDM)

Abstract

Nitrate and Phosphate concentration is related to fertility of the water andthus as a basis determine the trophic status of the waters. A research aims tounderstand the trophical status of the waters of the Solok Pulau lake, an oxbowlake located in the Tanjung Balam Village, was conducted in January-Febuary2015. A purposive sampling method was applied for taking the water sample.There were 4 stations, namely St 1 (in the inlet from the Kampar River), St 2 (inthe middle of the lake), St3 (in the lake inlet from the Tangon River) and St 4 (inthe distanct part of the lake). Samplings were conducted 3 times, once/ week.Water samples were taken from the surface.Results shown that the nitrate concentration was ranged from 0.082 -0.159 mg/L and phosphate 0.023 - 0.033 mg/L, temperature 28 - 29°C,transparency 46 - 53 cm, depth 147 - 297 cm, current speed 3 - 15 cm/s, pH 5.5,dissolved oxygen (DO) 1.29 – 2.17 mg/L. Based on nitrate concentration, thetrophic status of the Solok Pulau Lake was oligotrophic, while based onphosphate concentration, it can be categorized as mesotrophic.Keyword: trophic status, nitrate, phosphate, Solok Pulau lake, oxbow lake

Abstract

Tajwid Lake is an oxbow lake that receives water from the Kampar River during rainy season. To understand the types and abundance of phytoplankton present in that lake, a study has been conducted in Ferbruary 2016. There were 3 stations, Station 1 is in the inlet, Station 2 is in the middle of the lake and Station 3. Vertical sampling sites were decided base on the transparency of the water namely at surface water, in the middle of lake, and in the bottom of lake. Samplings were conducted 3 times, once/ week. Results shown that there are 36 species of phytoplankton present in the lake. They were classified into four classes, namely: Bacillariophyceae (8 species), Chloropyhceae (17 species), Cyanophyceae (8 species) and Euglenophyceae (3 species). The average of phytoplankton abundance was around 723 – 4,485 cells/L, species diversity index (H’) was 4.76 – 5.01, uniformity index (E) was 0.71 – 0.86 and dominance index (C) was 0.034 – 0.044. While the water quality parameters were as follows: temperature 28 – 300C, transparency 51.3 – 69 cm, depth 6.3 – 12.3 m, pH 5, CO2 4.7 – 13.9 mg/L, DO 2.3 – 8.3 mg/L, nitrate 0.02 – 0.11 mg/L and phosphate 0,02 – 0.1 mg/L. Based on the abundance of pyhtoplankton, it can be concluded that the Tajwid Lake water can be categorized as oligotrophic.Keyword : Phytoplankton, Langgam Sub-District, Tajwid Oxbow Lake

Abstract

Samsam swamp is located in the peat soil area and flooded during rainy season. To understand the water quality of the swamp, a research has been conducted from Maret-April 2016. There were four sampling sites, namely S1 is in the upstream (almost no human activity); S2 (around palm plantation), S3 (around the newly planted palm plantation) and S4 (far from palm plantation). Water samples were taken once/week for a 3 weeks period.Water quality parameters measured were depths, temperature, transparency, pH, DO, CO2, nitrate and phosphate. Results shown that depths was 39-170 cm, temperature: 28-32 oC, pH : 4-5, DO :3.96-4.93 mg/L, CO2: 4-11,99 mg/L, nitrate : 0.33-0.63 mg/L, and phosphate 0.37-0.65 mg/L. Nitrate concentration indicate that the Samsam peat swamp was categorized as mesotrophic-eutrophic, and phosphate concentration indicate that the Samsam peat swamp is hypertrophic.Keywords : Samsam peat swamp, Water Quality, oligotrophic-mesotrophic,hypertrophic.

Abstract

Tajwid lake is an oxbow lake that receives water from the Kampar River during rainy season. To understand the concentration of chlorophyll-a in this lake, a research has been conducted in February 2016. The chlorophyll-a samples were collected from three statios namely station I (in let), station II (in the middle of lake) and station III (in the end of the lake). In each station, the water was sampled from the surface, in middle of water column and in the bottom of the lake. Sampling was done three times, once per week. Results shown that chlorophyll-a concentration in the surface was 13.52-15.75 μg/L, in the middle of water column was 8.18-10.85 μg/L, and in the bottom of the lake was 4.87-7.17 μg/L. Water quality results shown that transparency: 52-69 cm, depth: 6-12 m, temperature: 28-30 0C, pH: 5-6, DO: 2.3-8.3 mg/L, CO2: 4.9-13.9 mg/L, nitrate: 0.02-0.11 mg/L, phosphate: 0.02-0.10 mg/L, and phytoplankton abundance: 723-4,485 cells/L. The concentration of chlorophyll-a in Tajwid Lake indicate that the trophic status of the lake was mesotrophic, the water quality is good and it may be able to support the life of aquatic organisms.Keywords : Chlorophyll-a, mesotrophic, Tajwid Lake

Abstract

The area around the Boko-Boko peat swamp has been used for palm plantation. Remains of fertilizer and pestiside used in the plantation may enter the water and decrease the water quality of the swamp. To understand the trophic status of the Boko-Boko peat swamp’s waters, a research was conducted in March 2016. There were three sampling stations namely Station 1, Station 2, and Station 3 and in each station there were three sampling points, in the surface, 1.5 secchi and in the bottom. Samplings were conducted 3 times, once/week. Trophic status was calculated based on Carlson’s Trophic State Index (TSI). Results shown that the transparency was 49 – 60 m, total phosphorus 0.13 – 0.17 mg/L, chlorophyll-a 3.12 – 6.19 μg/L, depth 45 – 250 cm, temperature 30 - 31ºC, pH 4 – 5, dissolved oxygen 0.41 – 3.26 mg/L, free carbondioxide 7.33 – 21.31 mg/L and nitrate 0.44 – 0.72 mg/L.
