Abstract

The increasing population of Kupang City has resulted in an increasing volume of waste being managed so that additional landfills will always be needed. An increase in the number of piles of uncontrolled waste will eventually make the capacity of landfills reach the maximum limit or overload. Dr. Herman Yohanes Penfui, 2) to find out the strategy for determining the location of legal waste disposal sites on Jalan Prof. Dr. Herman Yohanes Penfui. The data analysis technique used in this study is descriptive analysis and is presented in the form of output maps, nearest neighbor analysis to find out the distribution pattern and analysis of the suitability of TPS presence to determine the feasibility of TPS. In this study, the research sample consisted of 2 Penfui Village officials, and 5 people from the community, so the total number of respondents consisted of 7 people. Data collection was carried out by means of observation, interviews and documentation. The results showed that 1) there were 8 illegal TPS locations which were very close together, so this greatly affected the environmental conditions in the research location area, andthe pattern of distribution of TPS in the research location was clustered, 2) Based on the results carried out by buffering analysis using the ArcGIS 10.4 application related to the strategic location of temporary waste disposal sites in accordance with predetermined conditions and directions from several sources' opinions as a reference for determining the legal TPS location strategy in the study there were 30 TPS PS recommendations needed in the research location area.

Abstract

The aims of this research are, (1) to determine the effect of the Problem Based Learning learning model on students' critical thinking abilities in geography subjects (2) To determine the increase in students' critical thinking abilities. The type of research used is experimental research. The data collection techniques used in this research are: observation, exams/tests and documentation. The results of this research show that (1) There is an influence of the use of the Problem Based Learning learning model which can be proven from the results of the Independent Sample T-test data analysis using SPSS, namely that the sig. (2-tailed) 0.001<0.05 thus H0 is rejected then Ha is accepted. (2) There is an increase in students' critical thinking skills as seen from the magnitude of changes between the pre-test and post-test. The average N-Gain score obtained by the experimental class was higher, namely 0.52, while the N-Gain score obtained by the control class was 0.44.

Abstract

The increasing population in Putun Village must be accompanied by the availability of food supplies. The absence of research on food security in Putun Village is a problem in itself. This research aims to (1) determine the potential of land in Putun Village, Nunkolo District; (2) knowing food security in Putun Village, Nunkolo District. This research method is quantitative correlational inferential statistics. The sample used in this research was 202 families. Data collection techniques are questionnaire observation and documentation. Data analysis used in this research is hypothesis testing, questionnaire scoring with the Gutman scale and food expenditure share. The results of this research show that Putun Village is 5.15 km, located at an altitude of 0.1 meters above sea level with characteristic types of rocky and swampy soil. Land Use in Putun Village explains that land in Putun Village with an area of 2.8 km: is used for agriculture, land in Putun Village with an area of 1.6 km: is used for settlement, and land in Putun Village with an area of 0.75 km: no used or abandoned. Land potential in Putun Village with very good quality land for agriculture. However, there are several areas that have poor land quality because the land used is rocky land. And based on the results of the share of food expenditure (PPP) ≤60%, it can be said that households in Putun Village are food secure households, testing the hypothesis that there is an influence of land potential towards food security where the significance value (sig.) of 0.01 is smaller than the probability of 0.05 so it can be concluded that Ho is rejected and Ha is accepted, which means that there is an influence of land potential on food security.

Abstract

The scientific approach based on Outdoor Study provides an innovative alternative in geography learning by utilizing the environment as a direct learning resource. This study aims to determine the effect of the scientific approach based on Outdoor Study on students' spatial thinking skills. The research design used a quasi-experimental method with a pretest-posttest nonequivalent control group design. The subjects of the study were students of grade XI S.1 and XI S.2 at SMA Negeri 2 Kupang City. The instrument used was a spatial thinking ability test validated by experts. Data analysis used an independent sample t-test through SPSS 16.00 for Windows. The test results showed a Sig. (2-tailed) value of 0.000 which is smaller than 0.05, so it is concluded that there is a significant effect of the scientific approach based on Outdoor Study on students' spatial thinking skills. These findings indicate that geography learning through direct interaction with the surrounding environment can improve spatial thinking skills significantly.
