Abstract

The policy of moratorium on ex-welding vessels, according to Ministerial Regulation No. 56/2014, has an impact on tuna fishery conditions. Behind this policy is due to the heavy losses from the fisheries sector caused by the operation of these ex-foreign ships. This study evaluated the impact of policy by production surplus measurement techniques. The survey was conducted on capture fisheries companies, fish processing companies, and traditional processing groups. Data were analyzed by economic valuation using the extended cost-benefit analysis (ECBA) approach. The study results showed that as long as this policy is implemented, it will cause a decrease in the benefits of 9 tuna fisheries business actors by Rp1.23 trillion per year. Economic and social impacts of Rp 2.63 trillion per year, consisting of economic impacts of Rp1.35 trillion per year and social impacts of Rp1.28 trillion per year, which caused 19,972 people to lose their job. Abstract

Background: Smallholders play a critical role in the coffee value chain within West Java Province, with the majority of coffee production originating from their plantations. However, the initiative and involvement of coffee farmers in the value chain remain limited. Consequently, it is imperative to implement an inclusive business model that ensures the participation of all stakeholders.Purposes: This study examines the diversity of inclusive business models in West Java‘s coffee value chains, focusing on collectors in Pangalengan and Lembang, coffee shops with roasteries in Bogor, and farmers’ cooperatives in Garut.Design/Methodology/Approach: Using value chain mapping, business model canvas analysis, and semi-structured interviews with key stakeholders, it explores how these lead firms integrate smallholder farmers into their business models while balancing profit and social impact. The analysis revealed distinct inclusivity approaches across the models, underscoring the significance of adapting strategies to specific regional contexts.Findings/Result: The collector model in Pangalengan and Lembang prioritizes efficiency and market access but may overlook the nuanced needs of farmers. Conversely, the Bogor coffee shop and roastery model fosters direct farmer relationships, promoting quality and shared decision-making. The cooperative in Garut emphasizes collective action and farmer empowerment, although it faces challenges related to governance and market access. Conclusion: This study identifies the key factors for successful inclusive business practices in coffee value chains. Enhancing coffee value chain inclusivity requires robust stakeholder engagement, particularly with smallholders, empowering training, knowledge sharing, and rigorous monitoring and evaluation.Originality/Value/state of the art: These insights include the need for context-specific business models, external actor collaboration, a holistic value-creation perspective, and continuous learning and adaptation. Abstract

This paper investigates the role of digital transparency in enhancing consumer awareness of product origins and sustainability. As consumers increasingly seek to make informed, ethically aligned purchasing decisions, digital platforms - such as blockchain-enabled systems, mobile apps, and e-commerce sites - offer a medium for brands to communicate supply chain transparency. Through a comprehensive literature review, this article examines how transparency practices impact consumer trust, decision-making, and the adoption of sustainable products. Findings reveal that while digital platforms can significantly influence ethical consumption, their effectiveness depends on the clarity, accessibility, and perceived credibility of information presented. Key challenges, including greenwashing and information overload, can hinder transparency efforts, thereby reducing consumer trust. Additionally, stakeholder theory and the theory of planned behaviour provide insights into the ethical responsibilities of brands and the cognitive factors shaping consumer choices. Practical recommendations are offered, including the need for simplified, interactive transparency tools and collaboration with third-party certifiers to enhance authenticity. The study highlights the importance of evolving digital transparency practices to meet the ethical demands of modern consumers and suggests ways for future research to explore the impact of transparency across diverse consumer segments and regions.

Abstract

Abstract

Background: Foot and Mouth Disease is a highly contagious disease in livestock that can cause great economic losses when there is an outbreak of the disease.Purpose: This study examines the characteristics and dynamics of milk production on smallholder farms in East Java after the outbreak of foot and mouth diseaseDesign/methodology/approach: The regencies of Malang and Pasuruan are the research locations because they are the centers of milk production in East Java. To obtain a representative sample, farmer households were disaggregated by farm location, with a total of 93 farmer households surveyed 45 from Malang Regency and 48 from Pasuruan Regency. East Java Province was recorded to have 282.364 dairy cows in 2022, accounting for 56% of the national dairy cattle population, making it the key region in dairy cattle production. Through a comparative analysis of key factors, such as feed management, labor efficiency, and animal composition, the study revealed significant differences in milk production between the two regions.Findings/Result: The study found that the number of lactating cows positively impacted milk production, with farmers in both Malang and Pasuruan effectively optimizing concentrate feed. However, labor management challenges in Pasuruan hindered full resource utilization, highlighting the need for improved labor practices. To sustain dairy farming in East Java, tailored strategies that address regional differences, optimize resources, enhance labor quality, and invest in disease prevention and farmer education are essential for increasing productivity and resilience. Conclusion: Policy implications highlight the need for targeted training programs, improved measures to prevent the spread of foot and mouth disease (FMD), and better access to veterinary services to support farmers in adapting to FMD. Ultimately, strengthening resilience in the dairy farming sector is critical to ensuring the sustainability and productivity of dairy farming in East Java.Originality/value (State of the art): This study provides novel insights by not only analyzing the dynamics of milk production in these regions post-FMD but also by examining the specific factors affecting recovery, such as feed management, labor efficiency, and animal composition. This study offers a comparative analysis between the two major dairy-producing areas in East Java. Keywords: dairy farming, foot and mouth disease, milk production, lactating cow, resource management
