Abstract

Rampant caries in toddlers or early childhood caries (ECC) can affect chewing and the ability to eat and drink. The prevalence of caries in the 3-4 year age group in Indonesia in 2018 was 81.5%. A recent World Health Organization (WHO) report stated that dental caries can affect children's growth. Balanced evidence shows that ECC is associated with stunting in children. Rampant caries in primary teeth hurt nutritional status, mediated by caries depth, chronic inflammation, and oral pain. A dental and oral health caries prevention program is needed to prevent stunting. This research aims to develop and test the feasibility of a Tooth Protection Model for Preventing Caries and Stunting in Early Childhood. The research method used is Research and Development/ (RD), consisting of searching for potential problems, collecting data through literature review and FGD, Design Making, Validation of three preventive dentistry experts and three pediatric dentistry experts, Revision and User Feasibility Test for 30 toddler mother. Data analysis uses an Interclass Correlation Coefficient (ICC) with a two-way mixed type. The results of expert validation obtained an average score of 75 (decent category with revision), with good inter-rater reliability (ICC = 0.750). The results of user trials on 18 mothers of toddlers produced an average score of 90.67 (very feasible category without revision), with an ICC value of 0.860, meaning good reliability. The research conclusion shows that the Tooth Protection Model is worthy of implementation as a comprehensive approach to preventing caries and stunting in toddlers.

Abstract

ECC data for the 3–4-year age group in Indonesia in 2018 was 81.5%, indicating that only 18.5% were caries-free. ECC requires preventive measures to prevent caries from worsening, in order to achieve the goal of a healthy, caries-free Indonesia by 2030 with a minimum DMFT of 1.14 at the age of 12 years. The application of CPP-ACP can further prevent demineralization in children. CPP-ACP can neutralize saliva pH to normal levels, thereby supporting the remineralization of teeth. The proposed solution in this activity is to introduce a caries prevention program that can be implemented in Posyandu. This can be achieved by empowering cadres in the application of CPP-ACP. The method used is to empower cadres in applying CPP-ACP by providing training (ToT). Evaluation results show that there are significant differences between the pre-test and post-test results of knowledge, skills and saliva pH. Empowering dental health cadres has been proven to increase their knowledge and abilities in applying CPP-ACP as an effort to prevent caries from an early age in toddlers at Posyandu. The majority of the results from the pH examination of the saliva of posyandu toddlers returned to normal after the application of CPP-ACP by the cadre

Abstract

This community service project aimed to empower teachers in improving the oral health of preschool children through the utilization of the "Yummy" mobile application. The activity was conducted at RA Antassalam in Tasikmalaya City, involving 7 teachers and 33 preschool children. The methods employed included teacher training, introduction to the Yummy application, practical sessions with children, and pre- and post-intervention evaluations. Results showed significant improvements in teachers' knowledge and skills in promoting children's dental health, and children's oral hygiene improved to good levels. The use of the Yummy application as an interactive educational tool proved effective in enhancing children's enthusiasm and understanding of oral hygiene. This program not only increased short-term capacity but also aimed to instill habits and awareness of the importance of oral health from an early age. This innovative approach is expected to have a lasting positive impact on the oral health of children at RA Antassalam in Tasikmalaya City.

Abstract

The Community Partnership Program (PKM) "Teacher Empowerment Through the 'BAHUTE' Model in Improving Oral Hygiene of Deaf Children at SLB Aisyiyah Singaparna" aims to enhance teachers' ability to teach oral hygiene practices to deaf children. This activity involved 7 teachers and 30 deaf children at SLB Aisyiyah Singaparna. The methods used include counseling, training, and implementation of the BAHUTE (Bacterial Hunting Team) model, a specialized technique designed for cleaning deaf children's teeth. The program was carried out through several stages, including preparation, implementation, and evaluation. Results showed a significant improvement in teachers' knowledge and skills regarding oral hygiene for deaf children. The frequency of children's tooth brushing increased from an average of once to twice daily, and most students were able to demonstrate correct tooth brushing techniques. Routine dental and oral health examinations showed a decrease in cases of dental caries and gingivitis among students. Despite facing some challenges, this program proved effective in improving the oral hygiene of deaf children and has the potential to be implemented in other special education schools across Indonesia.

Abstract

Background: The high dental problems in elementary school children are caused by low knowledge and dental health behavior. Puppet media is effective to use because it provides real visualization that is interesting and easy for children to understand. This study aims to analyze the effect of education with the lecture method using puppet media on knowledge of dental health maintenance and dental and oral hygiene status in grade V students of SDN 1 Sindangkempeng, Cirebon Regency. Method: This research is a pre-experimental method with a one-group pretest-posttest design, with a total sample of 42 students. Results: based on the Wilcoxon statistical test with a p-value of 0.000, the results obtained were an increase in knowledge of dental and oral health maintenance of students to 86% with good criteria and an increase in the hygiene index to 74% of students having a good category. Conclusion: there is an effect of education with the lecture method using puppet media on knowledge of dental health maintenance and dental and oral hygiene status in elementary school students.

Abstract

Elementary school children are susceptible to dental and oral diseases so they still need special treatment. The prevalence of caries in the elementary school/MI graduate education group exceeds the Indonesian average of 89% and has a caries experience index (DMFT) of 8.2. West Java has a percentage of dental and oral health problems above the national figure of 58%, while data from the Tasikmalaya City Health Office (DKK), in 2017 showed the prevalence of dental caries in elementary school children was 56.2%. The purpose of this study is to examine the policies of the Regional Government in Efforts to Realize Indonesia Free of Caries 2030. In addition, the informants for this study were 3 representatives of UKS teachers in schools fostered by the Health Center and 2 cadres in the Health Center area. Data collection was carried out through Focus Group Discussions (FGD) and in-depth interviews. School Dental Health Efforts (UKGS) with School Health Efforts (UKS) so that time, budget, facilities and infrastructure are inadequate. Conclusion The bureaucratic structure, communication, resources and disposition of Tasikmalaya city in supporting the 2030 caries-free Indonesia program are not sufficient and a Tasikmalaya city regulation is needed to support this.
