Abstract

Slow learner children are a group of children with an IQ of 70-90 who experience difficulties in adapting, responding to stimuli, and thinking. The impact of these barriers is the inability to perform self-care such as taking care of yourself and brushing your teeth properly. There are 14% of slow learner children in Indonesia and 80.64% of them have poor oral hygiene caused by improper brushing. One effort that can be done is to conduct counseling about brushing teeth using appropriate media, namely pop-up book media and hand puppets. The problem in this research is that the slow learner students' brushing skills are still in the bad category. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of pop-up book media and hand puppets on the teeth-brushing skills of slow-learner students. This type of research is a Quasy Experiment with a pretest-posttest design, with a population of 20 slow-learner students. The data collection instrument used was an observation sheet. The data analysis technique uses the Wilcoxon test and the Mann-Whitney test. The results showed that there were differences in the effectiveness of pop-up book media and hand puppets on the teeth brushing skills of slow learners grades 3-5 in the inclusion class of SDN Mojo III and SDN Airlangga I Surabaya City after 21 days of observation.

Abstract

Stunting can affect dental health due to changes in saliva content. Saliva that cannot work optimally will increase the risk of dental caries. The problem in this research is the high level of caries in preschool children at the DWP V Jatirejo Kindergarten. This study aims to determine the association between stunting and the potential of hydrogen (pH) in the saliva of preschool children at DWP V Jatirejo Kindergarten, Lekok District, Pasuruan Regency. The study design was an analytic observational with a cross-sectional approach, the sample in this study was 40 students who were determined using the Slovin formula with a proportional stratified random sampling technique. The stunting variable data collection method was measuring of Height/Age using microtoise and the saliva pH variable was measured using pH meters, and the data analysis techniques used the chi-squared test. Results: There is an association between stunting and the saliva pH in preschool children at DWP V Jatirejo Kindergarten. The Height/Age measurement results to determine the stunting status of respondents were found to be dominated by short height (stunted), and the saliva pH category of respondents was dominated by the acidic category.

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus causes manifestations in the oral cavity which are usually called oral diabetes which include dental caries, dry mouth, gums that bleed easily (gingivitis), tartar, alveolar bone resorption, and periodontitis. Dental caries is the most common complication in people with diabetes mellitus type 2 with a high prevalence rate of up to 55%. It was found that on average patients suffering from diabetes mellitus type 2 at the Pakong Community Health Center, Pamekasan Regency experienced dental caries of 4.6, which is included in the high category. The problem of dental caries in patients suffering from diabetes mellitus type 2 is still high, and family support in efforts to maintain dental and oral health is still lacking. The aim of this research is to determine the relationship between family support in maintaining oral health and dental caries in patients suffering from diabetes mellitus type 2. This type of research is a cross-sectional correlation analytical research by means of examination and filling out questionnaires. The respondents in this study were 56 patients suffering from diabetes mellitus type 2 using the Slovin formula and using a purposive sampling technique. The data analysis technique uses the chi-square test. This research shows that there is a significant relationship between family support in maintaining oral health and dental caries in patients suffering from diabetes mellitus type 2 at the Pakong health center, Pamekasan district.

Abstract

Dental caries is still often experienced by many people, including children. Elementary school age children aged 6-12 years are classified as vulnerable to dental caries. The problem of this research is the high rate of dental caries in students in grades III to V at SDN 3 Ngasinan Ponorogo, where almost all students have dental caries. The aim of the research was to determine the relationship between tooth brushing skills and dental caries in students in grades III to V at SDN 3 Ngasinan Ponorogo. This type of research is analytical research with a cross sectional method, with a sample of 32 students in class III to V at SDN 3 Ngasinan Ponorogo. The data collection instruments used were observation sheets and stopwatches to measure students toothbrushing skills as well as examination sheets to identify dental caries. The analysis technique uses the chi-square test. The results of research on the toothbrushing skills of students in grades III to V at SDN 3 Ngasinan Ponorogo were included in the low-skill category at 68.8%. Dental caries for students in grades III to V at SDN 3 Ngasinan Ponorogo was in the high category at 43.8%. There is a significant relationship between tooth brushing skills and dental caries in students in grades III to V at SDN 3 Ngasinan Ponorogo. Conclusion : The level of tooth brushing skills, both in terms of how to brush teeth and the duration of time for brushing teeth, will influence the level of dental caries in students.
