Abstract

This study critically investigates live streaming as a contemporary form of spectacle and examines its ethical, spiritual, and socio-cultural implications through the lens of Maqāṣid al-syarī‘ah. Live streaming has emerged as a pervasive phenomenon in the digital era, shaping interaction, consumption, and value formation patterns. While it provides unprecedented opportunities for self-expression, entertainment, and social connectivity, it also generates concerns about the commodification of attention, the superficiality of online engagement, and the erosion of deeper moral and spiritual orientations. Adopting a qualitative literature review design, this research synthesizes scholarly works from digital media studies, existential philosophy, and Islamic legal theory. The data set comprises peer-reviewed journal articles, books, and authoritative online sources published primarily within the last decade. Thematic content analysis was employed to identify recurring patterns related to the transformation of values in online interactions, particularly the shift from substance to image, and from intrinsic meaning to performative visibility. The findings reveal that excessive consumption of live streaming content contributes to ethical disorientation, weakens the internalization of moral values, and fosters an environment where identity is increasingly defined by curated appearances rather than authentic essence. Within this context, Maqāṣid al-syarī‘ah, articulated through its five higher objectives, ḥifẓ al-dīn (protection of religion), ḥifẓ al-nafs (protection of life), ḥifẓ al-‘aql (protection of intellect), ḥifẓ al-nasl (protection of lineage), and ḥifẓ al-māl (protection of wealth), offers a comprehensive normative framework to assess and address these challenges. The study proposes ethically grounded and spiritually conscious approaches to digital engagement by integrating classical Islamic legal principles with contemporary media critique. This article contributes to contemporary Islamic scholarship by offering a conceptual framework to interpret the dominance of spectacle culture while proposing spiritually conscious and ethically grounded responses.

Abstract

The aim of this study is to examine the concerns surrounding cultured meat and the obstacles it presents in terms of halal issues, particularly for Muslim communities in Indonesia. The production of cultured meat is currently being heralded as one of the most significant advances of this century. Cultured meat is something that is made in a lab using techniques from bioengineering. Although it is not raised on farms like traditional meat, it shares many of the same biological similarities. This innovation still confronts several obstacles, such as the halal issue, which is still discussed by many Muslim academics, including those in Indonesia. A full qualitative method was employed, which was based on library research to investigate the stated problems, and all the findings were analyzed descriptively. The findings of the study have revealed that, despite various different arguments from Muslim academics’ perspectives regarding the halal status of cultured meat, it will be wiser if the related authorities as well as religious institutions join forces to examine the halal status of cultured meat. Once cultured meat is recognized as halal, it will provide more significant benefits, particularly for Muslim communities in Indonesia. It is also taken into consideration that cultured meat may have the ability to overcome global problems associated with the environmental implications of meat production, animal welfare, food security, as well as human health, or in other words it can offer certain mashlahah in comparison to traditional meat production.

Abstract

This study undertakes a critical re-examination of the interpretation of the term al- laww?mah in verse 75:2 of S?rat al-Qiy?mah, traditionally understood to signify reprehensible desires or internal moral impulses. Employing Roland Barthes’ semiotic framework, the research conducts a qualitative descriptive analysis to uncover the term’s layered semantic and conceptual significations within the Qur’anic text. The findings yield two pivotal contributions: First, at the semantic level, al-laww?mah transcends mere moral failings to encompass individuals who persistently engage in deliberate wrongdoing despite conscious awareness of their ethical transgressions. Second, within Barthes’ mythic system, al-laww?mah emerges as a symbol of moral hypocrisy, embodying an existential tension between idealized ethical principles and sinful praxis. By synthesizing classical Qur’anic exegesis with modern semiotic theory, the study repositions al-laww?mah as a complex ethical construct, while illuminating its implications for contemporary discourses on moral accountability and spiritual integrity. These insights challenge reductive interpretations of the term, advancing a nuanced understanding of its socio-ethical resonance and underscoring its relevance to interdisciplinary dialogues in religious studies, semiotics, and moral philosophy.

Abstract

This article explores the philosophical and practical dimensions of Ishq Ilāhī (Divine Love) within the classical Sufi tradition, focusing on the seminal work al-Mawāqif by al-Niffārī, a 10th-century CE (4th-century AH) mystic renowned for his profound existential and spiritual expressions. In Sufism, Ishq represents the pinnacle of the spiritual relationship between the servant and the Divine, transcending ordinary love (maḥabbah) and serving as a transformative force that purifies the soul and dissolves the ego in the Divine Presence. This study employs a qualitative approach through document analysis and hermeneutic interpretation of the al-Mawāqif manuscript. The findings indicate that Ishq in this text is not merely a theoretical concept but a practical path of spiritual healing, characterized by ecstatic experiences (wajd), ego annihilation (fanāʾ), and spiritual subsistence (baqāʾ). Furthermore, the article argues that the values and experiential insights of Divine Love can be contextually adapted for contemporary psychospiritual therapy, particularly in addressing issues of existential void, spiritual crisis, and inner psychological distress. This study thus opens an interdisciplinary dialogue between classical Sufism and modern spiritual psychology, positioning Islamic mystical heritage as a potential source of holistic healing and inner transformation.
