Abstract

Abstract

Heart failure is the inability of the heart to carry out its function, namely pumping blood at a normal frequency for tissue needs, which causes compensatory mechanisms, namely activation of the renin-angiotensin system, narrowing of the arteries and release of adrenergic. The renin-angiotensin system will increase renin which will then increase aldosterone, causing changes in serum sodium levels and serum potassium levels. Meanwhile, narrowing of the arteries due to decreased contractility will affect blood pressure, while adrenergic release will increase the pulse rate. This study aims to prove the relationship between serum sodium and potassium levels with blood pressure and pulse rate in heart failure patients. This research is a cross sectional study, with 23 patients as respondents. Samples were collected using the sequential sampling method. The data used are medical records that check serum sodium and potassium levels at one time with blood pressure and pulse. The results obtained showed that the average serum sodium level was 135.7 ± 6.643 mEq/L, the average serum potassium level was 4,087 ± 0.7485 mEq/L, the average systolic blood pressure was 123.35 ± 29.518 mmHg, the average mean diastolic blood pressure 70.43 ± 31,334 mmHg, mean pulse 99 ± 31,010 times per minute. The significance value of the Spearman Rank test on serum sodium levels with blood pressure was 0.910 (p>0.05), on sodium levels with pulse rate was 0.713 (p>0.05), on serum potassium levels with blood pressure was 0.076 (p> 0.05), and serum potassium level with pulse was 0.344 (p>0.05). It can be concluded that there is no significant relationship between serum sodium and potassium levels and blood pressure and pulse rate.

Abstract

Cigarette smoke contains free radicals that trigger oxidative stress causing decreased sperm motility. A decrease in antioxidants causes reduced motility. Antioxidants found in vegetables in green spinach leaf extract function as antioxidants to prevent oxidant stress and increase levels of Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS). The aim of this study was to determine the effect of ethanol extract of green spinach leaves (Amaranthus hybridus L.) on spermatozoa motility. This quasi-experimental research used 25 male Rattus norvegicus mice using a post-test only control group design strategy and a simple random sampling approach. The initial stage in data analysis is the normality test. The Levene One Way ANOVA test was then performed, and the Post Hoc LSD test was used to compare the results. Based on the research results, the ethanol extract group of green spinach leaves had maximum motility at a dose of 588 mg/KgBW (82%) and the lowest at a dose of 147 mg/KgBW (64%). The groups Kn- and Kn+ (0.000), Kn- and P1 (0.000), Kn+ and P2 (0.009), Kn+ and P3 (0.005), P1 and P2 (0.009), and P1 and P3 (0.005) are significantly different from each other. Ethanol extract of green spinach leaves (Amaranthus hybridus L.) affected spermatozoa motility, and significant differences were seen among the five groups studied.

Abstract

Indonesia is ranked third in the world with the most Tuberculosis (TB) cases. TB is an infection caused by bacteria thus can cause an inflammatory response then affects Neutrophil Lymphocyte Ratio (NLR). Anti-tuberculosis treatment with bactericidal and sterilization principles is expected to kill TB germs and reduce NLR values. The aim of this study was to analyze the NLR values in tuberculosis patients before and after anti-tuberculosis treatment based on age and sex characteristics. This is an analytic observational study using retrospective cohort approach in patients diagnosed with TB at the Muhammadiyah Kendal Hospital during January - August 2022. 70 samples were obtained through a purposive sampling method. This research used secondary data laboratory results consist of identity and NLR values before and after anti-tuberculosis treatment then analyzed with SPSS. Research data distribution wasn't normal. Results showed there was a significant comparison which was lower NLR values after treatment (p <0.001) and a significant conversion of NLR values from abnormal to normal (p <0.001). There was no significant difference based on sex before (p = 0.758) and after (p = 0.115) treatment. No significant difference was found by age category before (p = 0.174) and after (p = 0.284) treatment. Comparison of NLR values before and after anti-tuberculosis treatment found that there was a decrease in NLR values and most of the conversions were from abnormal to normal, but there were no differences based on age or sex characteristics.
