Abstract

Academic boredom is a primary emotion that negatively impacts learners' engagement, including in English classes at school. This study employed a descriptive and comparative quantitative approach to explore engagement levels in practical English classes among 76 secondary and high school students in Kerinci, Jambi, Indonesia. An adapted questionnaire was distributed via Google Forms through WhatsApp groups, and the collected data were analyzed using descriptive and comparative statistics. The results indicate that students experience the highest levels of boredom in class-related aspects (2.33), followed by boredom proneness (2.28) and study-related aspects (2.12). Both middle and high school students learning English had significant boredom levels. The boredom proneness (P) aspect, particularly P4, revealed a notable difference between these groups. In contrast, the class-related (C) and study-related (S) aspects showed no significant differences. The Academic Boredom Survey Instrument proved to be a valuable tool for assessing student engagement, particularly in the context of academic boredom research. These findings offer educators insights into tailoring teaching methods and curricula to mitigate academic boredom among secondary and high school students.

Abstract

Current weather monitoring data can be accessed in real-time through applications on Android and desktop devices provided by BMKG. Data sensors installed in specific areas or through monitoring in a particular region. BMKG sensors installed only in a limited number of areas, this study aims to evaluate and improve the accuracy of sensors used in weather monitoring systems in tropical regions. Sensor calibration is conducted using standard methods along with special adjustments for local conditions. Each sensor is tested under conditions that represent the actual environmental conditions, alongside a reference sensor for calibration. The calibration process involves collecting data from the lowest range of sensor readings to a certain range according to the sensor's or testing equipment's capabilities. The sensor readings are then compared with those of the reference measuring devices, and linear regression analysis is performed to examine the distribution of the sensor data against the actual sensor data. The calibration results yield equations that can be used to adjust the sensors to align with the actual sensors. All sensors are then installed and tested for several days to assess the calibration results. The study findings indicate an improvement in accuracy after calibration and provide recommendations for field use

Abstract

This study explores the complexities of teacher talk in English language learning through a discourse analysis of classroom interactions in a non-formal educational setting. The school provides a learning environment that caters to diverse groups of students, with a focus on developing their English communication skills. Three English teachers participated in the study. Classroom interactions were recorded and analyzed over two weeks using discourse analysis. Findings reveal that classroom interaction is shaped significantly by how teachers use language to facilitate learning. Teachers often face challenges in consistently using English, stemming from their limited proficiency and concerns about students' ability to comprehend. The study identifies key patterns of teacher talk, including questioning, giving instructions, lecturing, and using expressions to support student engagement and comprehension. These patterns are shown to impact student understanding and participation, particularly in contexts where English is not the primary language. Through discourse analysis, the study sheds light on how teacher talk functions within instructional conversations and highlights its influence on students' cognitive and communicative development in English language classrooms. Overall, the study shows that the way teachers talk in class affects how students learn and interact, especially in settings where English is not their first language. It also suggests that teacher training should pay more attention to classroom talk and how it can support language development.

Abstract

Abstract - This research presents information about automatic trolley robot customer followers of image processing and microcontrollers. Generally, when we shopping at supermarkets usually provided baskets and trolleys to carry their groceries. Usually customers are required to drive the trolley or bring their own basket, so customers still feel troubled if they have to choose groceries while pushing the luggage cart. Of these problems came the idea of integrating between conventional trolleys and automation technology. The aim of the author making research about this robot trolley to make it easier and more convenient for supermarket customers to shop and carry their groceries. Where trolleys are made capable of following the movements of users without the need to slot deposit 5000 push them so that customers just have to buy items that are purchased and customers can walk in front of their shopping trolleys. The additional devices needed to drive the trolley automatically include camera, microcontroller, DC motor, servo motor, motorbike driver, and battery installed on the trolley. Image processing uses a camera on the system that is made to work by detecting the color of the object that has been determined to determine the distance of the object with the trolley. The method used to process image processing is a hue-based color filtering algorithm hue-based color filtering. So that the use of trolleys can move automatically to follow customers. The end result of this automatic follower trolley design is an 80% success rate with the maximum distance between objects and trolleys is 5.65m.Keyword : camera, image processing, microcontroller, DC motor.

Abstract

The integration of artificial intelligence (AI) into education has gained significant attention over the past few years, driven by the potential of AI to revolutionize teaching and learning processes. Despite the growing body of research on the application of AI in education, there remains a significant gap in understanding its trends and specific details within English Language Teaching (ELT). This study employed a bibliometric analysis to present a snapshot of contemporary research trends in AI applications in ELT. The study systematically analyzed 1,994 documents from 522 sources and 3,316 authors from the Scopus database between 2019 and 2024. The inclusion criteria and carefully crafted search syntax ensure that only the most relevant publications are included in the analyses. The results identify the most productive authors, sources, affiliations, and countries. Additional bibliographic coupling analysis reveals seven main clusters, ranging from AI applications in contextual language learning to big data analysis in ELT. Co-occurrence network analysis further underscores the interconnectedness of various research topics, such as machine learning, natural language processing, and autonomous learning systems. The growing body of research indicates that AI technologies are increasingly being integrated into educational practices, offering more personalized, efficient, and engaging learning experiences. This study provides a detailed overview of the current landscape of AI research in ELT. By understanding these dynamics, educators, researchers, and policymakers can better leverage AI technologies to enhance educational outcomes and address the evolving needs of learners in a rapidly changing digital world.

Abstract

This research presents the design and evaluation of an automatic locker system employing Local Binary Pattern Histogram (LBPH)-based facial recognition for secure, keyless access control. The system integrates a Logitech C270 webcam, Arduino Uno microcontroller, relay module, and solenoid door lock, with processing performed via a laptop interface. Performance was assessed through two protocols: a single-user variability test under different facial accessories, achieving a 66.7% recognition rate, and a multi-user discrimination test, which yielded 50% accuracy across diverse facial profiles. Results indicate LBPH’s robustness against moderate occlusions but notable decline with heavy facial coverage such as helmets and masks. These findings highlight the critical role of facial visibility in biometric reliability and offer practical insights for implementing facial recognition systems in real-world security applications
