Abstract

The objectives of this study are to assess the proficiency of second-grade students in utilizing suitable verbs to complete a recount text and to identify the challenges encountered by these students in completing a recount text at the junior high school level. The researcher employed a qualitative approach to analyze the data. The study included a population of 20 students, and the researcher selected a random sample of 15 students. The researcher used a test as a tool to complete the recount text, selecting appropriate verbs from the provided list. The researcher employed various formulas to analyze the data. The findings indicate that the second-grade students lack proficiency in selecting suitable verbs to effectively complete the text. The analysis supports this conclusion, revealing a competency level of 56.52% among the students. We classify this skill as "poor," and the pupils achieved an average grade of 56.33%.

Abstract

Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui tingkat pengecoh yang termasuk dalam soal tes yang dibuat oleh guru bahasa Inggris di SMP Negeri Malaka Barat. Penulis menggunakan kombinasi metode untuk analisis data. Alat yang digunakan adalah dokumen berisi empat puluh soal ujian pilihan ganda. Rumus dari teori Nitko diterapkan pada analisis data. Berdasarkan analisis dari segi pengecoh, terdapat 14,375% pengecoh sangat buruk, 28,125% pengecoh buruk, 18,125% pengecoh sedang, 20% pengecoh baik, dan 19,375% atau 31 dari 160 pengecoh sangat baik. Oleh karena itu, disarankan adanya revisi terhadap soal tes bahasa Inggris mengenai pengecoh berdasarkan temuan penelitian.

Abstract

Kegaitan Pengabdian masyarakat ini berupa pendampingan belajar bahasa Inggris bahasa Inggris dasar dan kosa kata yang benar, serta urutan kata dan kalimat. Kegiatan pelatihan ini mengikutsertakan anak-anak dan remaja di Panti Asuhan Kristen GMIT 221 Kupang. Mentor pada kegiatan ini adalah para dosen dan mahasiswa bahasa Inggris yang memiliki kemampuan dan kemahiran bahasa Inggris yang kuat. Kegiatan pendampingan dilaksanakan di Panti Asuhan Kristen GMIT 221 Kupang. Pelatihan ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kemampuan berbahasa Inggris anak dan remaja Panti Asuhan Kristen GMIT 221 Kupang. Kegiatan tersebut menunjukkan antusiasme siswa dalam belajar, dibuktikan dengan partisipasi aktif dan kehadiran mereka pada saat sesi pendampingan. Kegiatan pelatihan ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kemampuan bahasa Inggris siswa.

Abstract

Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kemampuan dasar berbahasa Inggris pelaku wisata lokal di kawasan Air Terjun Oenesu, Kabupaten Kupang. Kawasan ini memiliki potensi wisata alam yang tinggi, namun belum diimbangi dengan kesiapan sumber daya manusia dalam memberikan pelayanan prima, terutama kepada wisatawan mancanegara. Kegiatan pelatihan dilakukan selama satu hari dengan pendekatan kualitatif partisipatif, melibatkan peserta secara aktif dalam simulasi percakapan, diskusi, dan praktik langsung situasi wisata. Hasil observasi dan wawancara menunjukkan adanya peningkatan antusiasme, kesadaran, dan kepercayaan diri peserta dalam menggunakan ungkapan-ungkapan dasar bahasa Inggris. Kegiatan ini terbukti menjadi strategi pemberdayaan yang efektif dalam pengembangan kapasitas masyarakat lokal. Diharapkan program ini dapat menjadi model pelatihan yang replikatif untuk kawasan wisata lainnya di Nusa Tenggara Timur.

Abstract

This study aims to improve the ability of students with mild intellectual disabilities to recognise the letters A–Z through the use of letter cards as a visual aid in early reading instruction. The study used a classroom action research (CAR) design, which was carried out in two cycles, each comprising the stages of planning, implementation of actions, observation, and reflection. The research subjects consisted of three students with mild intellectual disabilities in Grade VII at SLB Negeri Manekat Niki-Niki. Data were collected through observation, performance tests, and documentation of learning activities, then analysed descriptively, qualitatively, and quantitatively by comparing the results of the pre-action, cycle I, and cycle II. The results showed a clear improvement in letter recognition skills in all subjects after using the A–Z letter card media, as seen from the increase in scores at each stage of action. These findings show that letter card media effectively help students recognise letter shapes more accurately and consistently, and can be applied as an alternative learning strategy that supports the development of early reading skills for students with mild intellectual disabilities at special needs schools.
