Abstract

In the 21st century, technological progress has revolutionized education, emphasizing the 5Cs (communication, communities, connections, comparisons, and culture) in English language teaching. This evolution presents challenges for educators to innovate learning methods, including Project-Based Learning that integrates technology and cultural elements. This study explores students' perspectives on a writing project that combines extensive reading and narrative writing using Book Creator, focusing on the impacts and cultural aspects. Using a qualitative case study design, data was gathered through interviews and analyzed with thematic analysis. The participants were fifteen second-semester students. The findings show that, according to the students, a culture-based writing project with technology integration requires structured processes to help develop ideas. This approach not only improves writing skills but also enhances cultural understanding. The study suggests that the learning model, along with its positive outcomes and contributing factors, could provide a valuable framework for university-level writing courses. Keywords: project-based learning, writing, narrative

Abstract

This study aims to describe the mathematical concepts applied in buying and selling transactions at Pasar Keramat. To utilize contextual mathematics learning, students must learn mathematical concepts from everyday life because abstract mathematics causes difficulties for those who learn it. Buying and selling activities at Pasar Keramat have characteristics that raise the concept of buying and selling during the Majapahit Kingdom, namely using gobog coins. This study uses a qualitative method with an ethnographic approach. Data collection was carried out through observation, interviews, and documentation. Data analysis used methods developed by Miles and Huberman, namely data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results of the study found that the mathematical concepts applied in buying and selling activities at Pasar Keramat use the concept of circle geometry in transaction tools, the concept of basic algebra with the use of the variable gb (gobog), the concept of comparison of value in comparing the value of gobog coins with rupiah, and the concept of social arithmetic.

Abstract

This study aims to describe teacher activities, student activities, and students' mathematical critical reasoning ability after the implementation of deep learning integrated with Majapahit ethnomathematics on similarity material. The low critical reasoning ability of junior high school students, reflected in an initial test mean score of only 35.89, far below the minimum mastery criteria of 78, became the background of this study. The research used a quantitative descriptive method with a One Shot Case Study design. The sample consisted of 32 students of class VII-A at SMP Negeri 2 Puri, selected through Simple Random Sampling. Data were collected through observation and a mathematical critical reasoning test referring to four indicators: obtaining and processing information, analyzing information, reflecting on thinking, and decision making. The results showed that teacher activity reached 86.6% and student activity reached 96.6%, both in the very good category. The critical reasoning test results showed that 6 students (18.7%) were in the high category, 21 students (65.6%) in the moderate category, and 5 students (15.6%) in the low category, with an overall mean score of 73.82. The highest indicator mean was obtaining and processing information (3.7), while the lowest was decision making (1.9). These findings indicate that the implementation of deep learning integrated with Majapahit ethnomathematics can support students' mathematical critical reasoning ability.

Abstract

Students' mathematical problem-solving ability at MTs Manba'ul Ulum was still relatively low, indicated by the difficulty most students had in responding to questions related to the information given in the problems, as well as their tendency to rely on friends' help instead of independently writing down a solution plan. This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model assisted by Padlet media in supporting junior high school students' problem-solving ability, reviewed from teacher activity, student activity, and students' problem-solving ability, each of which was required to be at least in the good category. This study used a quantitative method with a one-shot case study design. The population of this study was seventh-grade students of MTs Manba'ul Ulum Gondang, with the sample determined using a purposive sampling technique, namely class VII-C consisting of 20 students. Data collection techniques used observation sheets to observe teacher and student activities, as well as a test to measure students' problem-solving ability. The results showed that teacher activity obtained a percentage of 92.59% in the very good category, student activity obtained a percentage of 86.50% in the very good category, and the problem-solving ability test results showed that 16 out of 20 students obtained scores in the minimum good category, with a classical percentage of 80%. Thus, it could be concluded that the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model assisted by Padlet media was effective in supporting students' problem-solving ability

Abstract

Conceptual understanding is a crucial foundation in mathematics learning, including in statistics, but observations and interviews at MTs. Manba'ul Ulum Japanan Kemlagi indicate that students' conceptual understanding remains low due to the predominance of conventional lecture-based teaching approaches that do not actively engage students. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of a gamification based Project Based Learning model in supporting junior high school students' understanding of statistical concepts, assessed through teacher activities, student activities, and conceptual understanding. This study employs a descriptive quantitative approach using a One Shot Case Study design. The sample was determined using purposive sampling, namely 20 eighth-grade students of Class VIII B at MTs. Manba'ul Ulum Japanan Kemlagi. Data were collected using observation sheets for teacher and student activities and a conceptual understanding test. The results showed that teacher activities scored 92.6% (very good category), student activities averaged 83.3% (good category), and the conceptual understanding test showed that 16 of 20 students achieved at least the good category, with a classical mastery rate of 80%. All three aspects met the established effectiveness criteria; therefore, the gamification based Project Based Learning model is effective in supporting junior high school students' understanding of statistical concepts.
