Abstract

This study aims to explain the relationship between Q.S. al-'Alaq 1-5 and Islamic education purposes. Philosophically, Q.S. al-'Alaq 1-5 can be used as inspiration for the development of Islamic education. In addition, one of the important points of the education system is the goal or purpose. This library research used data from various Tafsir books of the Qur'an: classical, modern, and contemporary and various literature related to the Islamic education system. The method of data collection was documentation. Data analysis employed transcendental structuralism hermeneutics: descriptive, explanative, discursive, interpretative, and implicative. The results of this study revealed the purposes of Islamic education in Q.S. al-'Alaq 1-5, including 1. spirituality awareness, 2. rationality awareness, 3. ethical awareness, 4. scientific awareness, and 5. social transformation awareness. Thus, in practice, Q.S. al-'Alaq 1-5 can be used as inspiration for the construction of Islamic educational purposes.

Abstract

This study investigates the development of scholarly discourse on religious moderation through a bibliometric analysis of international publications indexed in the Scopus database from 1988 to 2022. Employing VOSviewer for visualization and trend mapping, the research analyzes 390 publications, focusing on authorship, publication types, source journals, and keyword trends. The most significant surge in publications occurred in 2019, with articles (77.3%) representing the dominant document type. Notable contributors include Somer Murad and Zarzycka, with leading outputs from journals such as Religions and the Journal of Religion and Health. The United States, the United Kingdom, and Indonesia emerged as key publishing countries. Frequently occurring keywords—religion, moderation, and religiosity—highlight the thematic focus of the literature. Beyond quantitative metrics, the study critically reflects on the conceptual landscape of religious moderation, revealing a growing interdisciplinary engagement yet a lack of consensus on definitional boundaries. These findings offer valuable insights into the evolving scholarly understanding of religious moderation and its implications for pluralistic societies, policy discourse, and interfaith engagement. By linking bibliometric trends to broader theoretical and sociopolitical contexts, this research contributes to a more nuanced comprehension of the field’s intellectual structure and future directions.

Abstract

This study aims to explain the existence of border community harmony in multicultural and religious social interactions. The border areas of Aceh and North Sumatra in this mountainous community are known to have ethnic and cultural diversity that influences the social dynamics and religiosity of the local community. This study uses a qualitative approach through participatory observation techniques, in-depth interviews, and document analysis. The study results indicate that socio-religious harmony in this area is realized through religious moderation values, which are indicated by tolerance of religious communities, positive dialogue between religious communities, and respect for local traditions. Religious figures, community leaders, and educational institutions are important in educating and advocating for an understanding of religious harmony.

Abstract

This study analyzes religious-political contestation dynamics fueling social conflict in Aceh, Indonesia, through qualitative analysis of interactions between orthodox Dayah institutions and minority Dike Situek practitioners. Employing conflict theory with empirical data from interviews (n=32), participant observation, and document analysis, three critical mechanisms emerge: 1) Majority religious actors strategically stigmatize minority groups to consolidate political power; 2) State-endorsed fatwas institutionalize marginalization, transforming religious authority into socioeconomic capital; 3) Effective conflict resolution necessitates cultural mediation frameworks reconciling orthodox and cultural Islamic perspectives. The findings advance socio-religious conflict theory by demonstrating how state-religion alliances escalate majority-minority tensions, while proposing policy interventions for institutional accommodation of minority practices. Limitations include insufficient historical documentation of Dike Situek origins, highlighting the urgency of oral history preservation. Contributing to global discourse on post-conflict religious pluralism, the research advocates localized cultural approaches to mitigate politicized religious tensions in transitional societies..
