Abstract

The integration of graphic design skills in the curriculum of the Arabic Language and Literature (BSA) Study Program is one of the strategic steps in preparing graduates who are able to compete in the era of globalisation and digitalisation. This study aims to explore these challenges and identify innovative strategies applied by lecturers in teaching graphic design in BSA. Using a qualitative approach based on phenomenology, data was collected through interviews with lecturers teaching Graphic Design courses. The data were analysed and combined with relevant academic literature to provide a theoretical foundation on multidisciplinary approaches in higher education. The results showed that the main challenges in teaching graphic design in BSA study programme include limited technical competence of lecturers, students' skill gaps in technology, and limited course duration. To overcome these challenges, lecturers adopt strategies such as material condensation, project-based learning, differentiated instruction approaches, and the use of software that is easier for students to access and understand. Lecturers also encourage collaboration through group projects, regular monitoring, and evaluation that emphasises process as well as outcomes.

Abstract

Poetry is different from other genres of literature, such as prose and drama. The difference lies in the language used in poetry, which is usually multi-interpretive, metaphorical, and ambiguous. This ambiguity of poetry creates different interpretations, if read and perceived by different readers. Therefore, this study aims to describe Michael Riffaterre’s semiotics to the poem “Syaiun Sayabqa Bainana” by Faruq Juwaidah. This research methode is descriptive qualitative which the data and studies are based on various sources, then analyzed using Riffaterre’s theory by looking at the indirecyness of xcpressions, reading heuristic and hermeneutic, models, variants, matrices, and hypogram, which revealed that the holistic meaning of this poem. The research findings show that the poem Syaiun Sayabqa Bainana means longing, namely longing for the tranquility of life in a world full of sadness and suffering. Then through models and variants in the form of words, phrases, and sentences, the matrix is found to be the search for tranquility, through doubts and beliefs and a world full of suffering and materialism, although in the end everything is ephemeral. The potential hypogram of this poem is Faruq Juwaidah's criticism of the social and political upheaval in Egypt. And the actual hypogram is the poem “Ila Habibti” by Nizar Qabbani.

Abstract

Abstract. This study applies discourse analysis to examine how Al-Jazeera portrays Iran's nuclear program, highlighting its language choices, narrative strategies, and ideological frameworks. The results show that Al-Jazeera forms a defensive narrative for Iran, emphasizing the threat from Israel while downplaying the image of Iran's nuclear ambitions. In its reporting, Al-Jazeera strategically uses terms such as "deterrence," "threshold capability," and "fatwa limits" to portray Iran as a country that acts within its limits and only responds to external pressure, not as an aggressor. In addition, this study also highlights the dynamics of global escalation, especially how Russia and the United States play a role in influencing Israeli policy. Russia's warnings against attacks on Iran's nuclear facilities and US diplomatic interventions show how global powers shape strategic calculations in regional security. In terms of ideology, Al-Jazeera's reporting reflects three main themes: support for Iran's nuclear strategy within the framework of state sovereignty, rejection of Western dominance, and criticism of US influence in Israeli policy. This editorial stance shows Al-Jazeera's tendency to challenge Western narratives and support multipolar geopolitical discourse. This study contributes to the study of media discourse by highlighting how language choices and visual elements in news reporting can shape geopolitical perceptions. By analyzing Al-Jazeera’s coverage, this study highlights the media’s role in constructing competing realities in international conflicts, while also offering insights into the relationship between journalism, ideology, and strategic communication in Middle Eastern mediaKeywords: ideological representation, iran-israel conflict, nuclear news, stuart hall, al-jazeera

Abstract

This study aims to determine the meaning of the concept in the poem Al-Hubb Bilậ Hudậd by Nizar Qabbani. This study uses Paul Ricoeur's hermeneutic analysis in interpreting symbols and meanings that are still veiled in the Al-Hubb Bilậ Hudṻd poem which consists of deciphering the hidden meaning behind the visible meaning, and at the level of meaning implicit in the literary meaning. Data analysis was carried out using various data collection techniques (triangulation), and carried out continuously. The analysis technique used in this research is to understand the meaning of poetry, identify the semantic meaning, describe the existential/ontological meaning, by decontructuring and reconstructing the text. The results of this study using Paul Ricoeur hermeneutics analysis there are two concepts, namely structural and phenomenal interpretation. In structural interpretation, women are metaphors of natural beauty metaphors, and men are loyal lovers. And in a phenomenal interpretation, a woman is a woman who has a smooth, gentle character, full of coolness and sincere affection of all time, so that she can grow a good generation. A man's love for women should never be interrupted and in fact must always give more to all roles and struggles of women in a family.

Abstract

As higher education institutions transition toward competency-based frameworks, Outcome-Based Education (OBE) has emerged as a pivotal model for aligning curriculum with measurable learning outcomes. In the context of Islamic higher education, the integration of OBE remains a growing area of interest. This study explores the implementation of the Outcome-Based Education (OBE) curriculum in the Arabic Language and Literature Study Program at the Faculty of Humanities, Universitas Islam Negeri Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang. It focuses on insights from the program coordinators and examines the challenges encountered during the implementation process. Employing a phenomenological approach, data were collected from primary sources, including the head and secretary of the study program, through direct observation and in-depth interviews. The data were analyzed using interpretative phenomenological analysis. The findings reveal that the implementation process involves several stages: curriculum review, dissemination of OBE policy to faculty and students, and ongoing monitoring and evaluation. Key challenges include faculty and student readiness to adopt new approaches, resistance to change, difficulties in accurately measuring learning outcomes, limited resources and facilities, and time constraints. To enhance the effectiveness of OBE implementation, it is recommended that institutions provide targeted professional development, improve infrastructure support, and promote a collaborative academic culture. Future research could explore cross-institutional comparisons and long-term impact assessments of OBE-based curriculum reforms.
