Abstract

Abstract

In the current educational landscape, critical thinking is an essential skill that significantly aids students in addressing problems effectively. This skill encompasses various aspects such as interpretation, analysis, evaluation, inference, explanation, and self-regulation. The aim of this study is to evaluate the critical thinking abilities of seventh-grade students in Sungai Penuh City, with a specific focus on SMPN 8 and SMPN 11. A total of 60 students from both schools participated in this study, which centered around science education (IPA). A descriptive quantitative method was used, with data collected through essay-based assessments designed around critical thinking indicators. The research results revealed that students from SMPN 8 demonstrated superior critical thinking skills compared to their peers at SMPN 11, with an average achievement score of 46.07% (moderate category) at SMPN 8 and 28.13% (low category) at SMPN 11. The main weaknesses identified were in the areas of analysis and inference, particularly at SMPN 11, where most indicators were classified as low. These findings underscore the challenges present in the learning process, including teaching methods, student motivation, and the learning environment. Therefore, more effective teaching strategies are needed to enhance students' critical thinking abilities, particularly in science education.

Abstract

Some ingredients in poultry feed contain phytic acid, which prevents the absorption of nutrients. Microbial phytase enzymes can help with this problem. However, the phytase-producing gene of the novel yeast Rhodotorula mucilaginosa RG-PK20 has been constrained by the high cost of traditional substrates such as sodium phytate. The aim of this study is to evaluate the production of phytase from R. mucilaginosa RG-PK20 using a phytic acid source (substrate) from agricultural waste, with in vitro testing in poultry feed. The fermentation process was conducted utilizing a substrate-to-medium-to-yeast culture ratio of 1:1:1 v/v/w over a period of four days at various temperatures (25, 28, and 30 °C) and pH levels (3, 4, 5, and 6, with 7 as a control). Glucose and urea supplements were given when the optimal conditions were established by measuring the phytase content and activity. The molecular weight of the phytase was confirmed by SDS-PAGE analysis, and the ability of the enzyme to hydrolyze phytic acid was evaluated in vitro. Corn cobs generated the highest amount of phytase, with a concentration of 25.29 mg/mL and activity of 4.46 U/mL. The in vitro tests revealed an 81% reduction in phytic acid levels in poultry feed. These results demonstrate the potential of phytase derived from R. mucilaginosa RG-PK20 to reduce phytic acid in poultry feed ingredients.

Abstract

This research aims to identify and understand the difficulties experienced by students in learning Mathematical Physics at IAIN Kerinci. Based on the results of qualitative data analysis using a case study approach obtained from interviews, classroom observations, and group discussions, it was found that the main factors affecting students' learning difficulties are limitations in basic mathematics mastery, the complexity of physics concepts, and the limitations of interactive teaching strategies. This study recommends the development of more interactive teaching methods, the enhancement of laboratory facilities, and the formulation of a curriculum that prioritizes strengthening the fundamentals of physics and mathematics. The results of this research are also expected to serve as a reference in improving the quality of more adaptive and applicative Mathematical Physics learning according to the academic needs of students.
