Abstract

Tujuan dari kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat ini adalah untuk memberikan pelatihan Meningkatkan Aktivitas dan Hasil Belajar Bahasa Inggris Berbasis Teks Fungsional Pendek Tentang Advertisement/Iklan pada Siswa SMKS Yapim Siak Hulu Pekanbaru. Metode yang digunakan dalam pengabdian ini adalah ceramah dan tanya jawab. Pelaksaanaan kegiatan ini dilaksanakan pada tanggal 05 October 2023, pukul 08.00-12.00 wib di SMKS YapimSiak Hulu. Peserta yang mengikuti pelatihan ini adalah 14 siswa dari kelas XI Akuntansi. Kegiatan pelatihan ini sanagat bermamfaaat bagi siswa SMKS Yapim untuk mnembah wawasan dalam memahami gaya bahasa atau stylistika yang digunakan dalam iklan.

Abstract

Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masayrakat ini bertujuan untuk mengenalkan kepada siswa model pembelajaran yang berbasiskan masalah yang dapat meningkatkan kemampuan berpikir kritis mereka sekaligus meningkatkan keaktifan mereka dalam belajar. Kegiatan ini dilaksanakan pada taanggal 16 Desember 2024 di Mts Diniyah Putri Pekanbaru, Riau. Metode yang digunakan dalam kegiatan ini adalah pelatihan dan pendekatan berbasiskan masalah. Instrumen evaluasi yang digunakan berupa angket yang dianalisis secara deskriptif. Kegiatan ini telah mendapat respon yang sangat baik dari siswa. Kegiatan ini juga telah memberikan pengalaman belajar yang baru bagi mereka, belajar yang menyenangkan sekaligus meningkatkan kemampuan berpikir kritis mereka. Selain itu, dengan adanya kegiatan ini diharapkan dapat membantu meningkatkan minat dan motivasi belajar mereka khususnya dalam belajar bahasa Inggris.

Abstract

Pelatihan Projek Penguatan Profil Pelajar Pancasila (P5) bertujuan untuk membentuk karakter peserta yang peduli terhadap konservasi lingkungan dan bisnis berkelanjutan. Kegiatan ini dilaksanakan di Madrasah Aliyah Kuala Kampar dengan pendekatan penyuluhan, diskusi interaktif, serta praktik langsung dalam pembuatan pupuk organik dari sampah. Evaluasi pelatihan dilakukan menggunakan angket yang mengukur pemahaman, keterampilan, motivasi, dan kepercayaan diri peserta dalam mengolah sampah organik. Hasil evaluasi menunjukkan bahwa 92,85% peserta memperoleh informasi yang bermanfaat, 80,96% mendapatkan teori pembuatan pupuk praktis, serta 95,24% termotivasi untuk menerapkan teknik yang diajarkan. Meskipun demikian, tingkat keberhasilan dalam praktik pembuatan pupuk masih rendah (25%), yang menunjukkan perlunya pendampingan lebih lanjut. Secara keseluruhan, pelatihan ini efektif dalam meningkatkan kesadaran dan keterampilan peserta dalam konservasi lingkungan serta pengembangan bisnis berkelanjutan berbasis ekonomi sirkular.

Abstract

This study investigated the speaking skills of senior high school students in Pekanbaru, Riau, Indonesia, through a picture description task. Speaking is a crucial skill in English as a Foreign Language (EFL) learning because it enables effective communication in both academic and social contexts. However, despite its significance, limited research has examined Indonesian students’ speaking performance through picture description tasks, particularly in relation to pronunciation and fluency. To address this gap, the present study assessed 46 students using a standardized rubric covering comprehension, grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, and fluency. Their performances were evaluated by three independent raters to ensure reliability and objectivity. The findings showed an overall mean score of 3.7, categorized as very good. Vocabulary obtained the highest average (4.2), followed by comprehension (3.8), grammar (3.6), and fluency (3.5). Pronunciation recorded the lowest mean (3.3). These results highlight the need for targeted pedagogical strategies to improve pronunciation and fluency while consolidating vocabulary and comprehension skills.

Abstract

This service activity aims to increase the knowledge and skills of teachers and students in using socrative as an effort to improve the quality of learning at Yapim Siak Hulu Vocational School, Riau Province. The method of implementing this service used training and mentoring with stages, namely preparation, implementation, and evaluation. The instrument of evaluation for this activity was a questionnaire which was analyzed descriptively. The results of this activity showed that teachers at Yapim Vocational School were able to use socrative, such as creating quizzes and running them online. Socrative also helped them assess students' abilities directly so they could provide feedback effectively. Meanwhile for students, Socrative had provided a new learning experience for them, learning that was fun and not boring. With this activity, it is hoped that it could help teachers improve their skills in the field of ICT while increasing their students' interest and motivation to learn.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the first-year English language education students at FKIP-UIR Pekanbaru's academic vocabulary proficiency. Data interpretation is part of the descriptive research methodology. Three levels of vocabulary knowledge are tested in this study using several measures: meaning identification, written form recall assisted by initial letter, and matching exercise. The analysis of the data revealed that the average score on the meaning recognition test is 54,16, which is categorized as a poor to the ordinary degree of mastery. The written form recall test with initial letter assistance yields an average score of 57,5 and is categorized as having a poor to an average degree of competence.
