Abstract

As credit card debts have increased in Indonesia over the past ten years, concerns over the impulsive buying behavior of Indonesian credit card holders have emerged. Therefore, more attention must be paid to credit risk management of banks as it plays an important role in analyzing the possibility of losses due to the inability of prospective borrowers to repay debts. This study provides empirical evidence about the prudence of commercial banks in Greater Jakarta in offering credit card limits. Using primary micro-data collected from credit card applications submitted to the largest foreign private bank providing retail credit in the Greater Jakarta area in 2019, this study employed multiple regression model to analyze the determinants of credit card limits in the Greater Jakarta. Our empirical findings suggest that age, home location, income, type of industry, and office location of prospective borrowers significantly influence credit card limits. Commercial banks in the Greater Jakarta, thus, have been prudent in offering credit card limits.

Abstract

ASEAN has gone a long way in deepening its regional economic cooperation, particularly its trade liberalization. However, ASEAN has comparatively less intraregional trade than the European Union, whose economic integration model they aspire to emulate. As reducing tariffs was no longer an efficient way to increase trade, this study analyzes logistics performance as another factor that may affect trade. Using the gravity model with bilateral trade data from 10 ASEAN member states from 2007 to 2018 with gaps, the results show that the majority of improvements in logistics performance, by both the private sector and government alike, have positive and significant impacts on export value. This finding implies that the collaboration between the private sector and government agencies to improve logistics performance in each ASEAN member state is imperative to foster ASEAN intra-regional trade further.

Abstract

This study evaluates the impact of Indonesian government programs in the housing and water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) sectors on social welfare, specifically targeting poverty reduction and health improvement. The primary hypothesis is that enhanced progress in housing and WASH programs correlates with lower poverty rates and improved health outcomes. Using data from SUSENAS and the Ministry of Development Planning, we employ a fixed effects model to mitigate endogeneity concerns and accurately assess program impact. Findings reveal that while advancements in WASH programs are significantly associated with improved public health, no strong evidence links these programs to poverty reduction. The study recommends prioritizing WASH program expansion and refining housing program strategies to address health outcomes more effectively and promote targeted poverty alleviation measures. These recommendations offer insights into optimizing development programs to enhance Indonesia’s socio-economic landscape.
