Abstract

The nutritional issues among adolescents included both undernutrition and overnutrition. Undernutrition was generally caused by low energy intake from food compared to the energy burned by the body, while overnutrition occurred when energy intake exceeded energy expenditure. These nutritional problems also influence adolescents' body image. This research aimed to develop food bar products made from tempeh and tofu waste as snacks for obese adolescents. The research process began with the preparation stage of raw materials, including drying tofu waste. Subsequently, food bars were made using three formulas: F1 (60% dried tofu waste and 40% tempeh), F2 (70% dried tofu waste and 30% tempeh), and F3 (80% dried tofu waste and 20% tempeh). The third stage involved organoleptic testing with 30 untrained panelists, using a preference test for attributes of texture, color, aroma, and taste, with a hedonic scale ranging from 1 (dislike extremely) to 4 (like extremely). Statistical analysis was conducted using ANOVA and Duncan's Test with a confidence level of 95%. The results showed that the panelists preferred food bar product F3 based on texture, color, and aroma attributes, while, F1 received the highest rating. Overall, F3 was deemed the most favored. The conclusion of this study indicated that the recommended food bars as snacks for obese adolescents were F3 (80% dried tofu waste and 20% tempeh), with an average liking score of 3 (like).

Abstract

In Indonesia, the country faced a triple burden of malnutrition, including undernutrition, overnutrition, and micronutrient imbalances. The phenomena of wasting and underweight among toddlers were influenced by factors such as parental education, maternal knowledge, environmental conditions, health issues, awareness of nutrition, and the nutritional intake of toddlers. This activity aimed to improve knowledge about balanced nutrition to address wasting and underweight issues, as well as to monitor the nutritional status of toddlers in Lestari Dadi Pegajahan Village. The implementation method involved providing education on balanced nutrition to combat wasting and underweight, using health promotion media such as leaflets, PowerPoint presentations, and banners. Before the material presentation and leaflet distribution, participants completed a pretest about balanced nutrition and toddlers' nutritional status. After the education session, the nutritional status of toddlers was measured using a baby scale, weight scale, and microtoise. The measurement results were compared to the data from the previous month. Additionally, nutrition consultations were conducted with participants, and a posttest was administered at the end of the activity to measure changes in participants' knowledge. The posttest and pretest used the same set of 20 questions. The results showed an increase in the number of mothers with good knowledge, rising to 14 participants (70%) out of 20. Monitoring toddlers' nutritional status revealed 2 cases (10%) of underweight, 6 cases (30%) of wasting, and 12 cases (60%) of normal nutrition. In conclusion, this education activity successfully improved participants' knowledge, which they were able to apply in daily life.

Abstract

Increased blood sugar levels in the body are one of the characteristics of type II diabetes mellitus. Controlling blood sugar levels can be done by checking blood glucose levels. This study aims to analyze blood glucose levels two hours after eating with insulin injection 11-20 minutes before eating and blood glucose levels two hours after eating with insulin injection 0-10 minutes after eating. This study uses a quantitative method with a Cross-Sectional design. Data were collected using a total sampling technique, with a sample size of 18 respondents. The results of the statistical test showed a probability of 0.001, which is smaller than the significance level (? = 0.05). This shows a significant difference between blood glucose levels two hours after eating in patients who received insulin injections 11-20 minutes before eating (Pretest) and those who received insulin injections 0-10 minutes after eating (Posttest). Thus, it can be concluded that the time of insulin injection affects blood glucose levels two hours after eating in patients with type II diabetes mellitus at Grandmed Hospital Lubuk Pakam.

Abstract

Type II Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a chronic condition whose prevalence continues to rise in Indonesia. Although insulin therapy is commonly administered to patients, their knowledgeparticularly regarding the appropriate timing of insulin injection remains relatively low. This limited understanding may contribute to unstable blood glucose levels, highlighting the need for personalized management strategies, especially in the scheduling of insulin administration. This community engagement program was implemented through health education and counseling methods aimed at promoting a more proactive and preventive approach in the management of Type II DM. The educational strategy adopted was both informative and interactive, designed to enhance the comprehension of 18 outpatient participants diagnosed with Type II DM. The findings demonstrated that participants showed strong enthusiasm throughout the intervention, driven by a recognized need to better understand insulin injection timing and postprandial glucose control. Moreover, there was a measurable improvement in knowledge, with an average increase of 27.7 points from pre-test to post-test assessments. This outcome affirms the effectiveness of the health education activity in achieving the intended objectives of the program. Participants also expressed interest in the continuation of similar educational efforts in the future. Additionally, the distribution of educational materials in the form of leaflets containing guidance on insulin injection schedules, meal timing, and adherence to effective insulin therapy protocols served as a practical tool for application at home. In conclusion, this educational initiative successfully enhanced patient health literacy and provided effective guidance to support diabetes self-management. Furthermore, the activity contributed to improving the overall quality of life for patients by supporting better glycemic control and preventing long-term complications.

Abstract

A splint is one of the nursing interventions used to fixate or immobilize injured body parts, particularly in cases of fractures. The primary function of a splint is to stabilize bone fragments and prevent displacement that may worsen the patient’s condition. In fractures, pain arises not only from tissue, nerve, and vascular damage but also from the uncontrolled movement of bone fragments. This pain can affect the cardiovascular, endocrine, respiratory, and immune systems, and may trigger both physiological and psychological stress. Therefore, pain management is a crucial component of fracture care and can be addressed through pharmacological interventions such as analgesics, as well as non-pharmacological methods, including splinting. This study aimed to examine differences in pain scores among fracture patients before and after splint application. A quantitative design with a one-group pretest-posttest approach was employed. The sample consisted of 25 respondents selected using purposive sampling. Pain scale observations were conducted before and after the intervention, and data were analyzed using the Paired Sample T-Test with a significance level of 0.05. The results showed a probability value of p = 0.000 (p < 0.05), indicating a significant difference between pretest and posttest pain scores. It can be concluded that splint application has a significant effect in reducing pain levels among patients with closed fractures at Grandmed Hospital, Lubuk Pakam.
