Abstract

Dunaliella salina is one of the microalgae that has the potential to be utilized because it has a fairly high nutritional content as much as 57% protein, 32% carbohydrate, 6% lipid, and 5% chlorophyll pigment. Chlorophyll produced by microalgae is inseparable from salinity and nitrogen because when microalgae carry out photosynthetic activities, microalgae need nitrogen as a nutrient for building material for the chlorophyll-a pigment network. This study aims to determine the effect and best concentration of nitrogen and salinity on the chlorophyll-a content of D. salina microalgae. The method used was a factorial design (FD), namely salinity 25ppt, 30ppt, 35ppt, and 40ppt and nitrogen concentrations in modified walne media, namely 100%, 75%, 50%, 25%. Data analysis in this study used the Anava Test and continued with the Duncan Test. The data obtained were analyzed by Anava Test followed by Duncan's Test showing significant results. The highest chlorophyll-a content was at 35 ppt nitrogen 50% salinity with 8,268 mg/mL chlorophyll-a content and the lowest chlorophyll-a content at 40 ppt nitrogen 25% salinity treatment was 2,351 mg/mL. At a nitrogen concentration of 50% there was an increase in the chlorophyll-a content, while the nitrogen concentration of 100% and 75% of microalgae decreased the content of chlorophyll-a. At a nitrogen concentration of 25%, there was no increase in the chlorophyll-a content because under conditions of nitrogendeficiency, the formation of chlorophyll would decrease, causing the process of photosynthesis to be hampered. Based on the research, it can be concluded that differences in nitrogen concentration and salinity can affect the chlorophyll-a content ofD. salina.

Abstract

Recent studies have revealed that extreme waves (also known as freak waves), with heights ranging from 20 to 30 meters, occur more frequently than previously assumed. Over the past decades, numerous large commercial vessels have been lost due to incidents involving such anomalous wave phenomena. However, the current design criteria outlined in the 2022 BKI (Biro Klasifikasi Indonesia) Consolidation still consider significant wave heights of less than 11 meters, which is increasingly recognized as inadequate for modern oceanic conditions. This study aims to evaluate and propose ship design parameters that account for extreme wave conditions by incorporating significant wave heights of up to 30 meters into the safety analysis. The methodology involves a comparative analysis between the conventional design standards and a revised model that integrates dynamic wave impact forces as a crucial factor in determining the structural dimensions and stability of ships. The findings indicate that designing ships with consideration of extreme wave scenarios is not only feasible but also necessary to enhance vessel resilience and reduce the risk of capsizing and sinking. This research underscores the urgent need for updating maritime safety regulations and design frameworks in response to evolving oceanographic realities, thereby contributing to the development of safer and more robust marine transportation systems.

Abstract

Traditional market vendors play a vital role in supporting local economies and contribute significantly to community economic activities. However, most of them have not implemented proper bookkeeping systems, resulting in difficulties in managing cash flow, calculating profits, and accessing formal financial services. This program aims to provide simple bookkeeping assistance to traditional market traders to help them gain basic financial record-keeping skills. The program involved initial observation, development of a simple bookkeeping module, in-person training sessions, and hands-on assistance in daily financial recording. The bookkeeping system was tailored to the needs of small-scale businesses, covering records of income, expenses, and profit-loss, using notebooks and easy-to-understand paper forms. The results indicated an increased awareness among traders about the importance of financial documentation and their ability to independently create basic financial reports. Additionally, some vendors expressed interest in saving and accessing banking services as part of improved financial management. This initiative had a positive impact on enhancing the financial literacy of traditional traders and encouraged the development of a more organized business administration culture. In the future, such mentoring programs are expected to continue periodically and evolve toward the digitalization of simple bookkeeping systems via mobile applications.
