Abstract

Introduction: The 2023 report from the Tuberculosis Working Group of the Directorate for Prevention and Control of Communicable Diseases, Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia, showed an increase in detected pulmonary TB cases from 724,309 cases in 2022 to 821,200 cases in 2023. This increase aligns with the coverage rate of pulmonary TB rising from 68% in 2022 to 77% in 2023. The estimated detection of pulmonary TB cases in Indonesia from 2023-2024 is around 1,060,000 cases. At the provincial level, the case notification achievements showed that West Papua Province had a notification coverage of 112%, while West Papua Province had only 66%. Objective: The aim of this research is to examine the influence of physical environmental factors at home and the habits of pulmonary TB sufferers on the incidence of pulmonary TB as a factor in the transmission of pulmonary TB in South Sorong Regency. Method: The method used in this research is quantitative analysis with a cross sectional approach by carrying out logistic regression analysis. Result: The results of the study showed that the type of floor, humidity, the habit of opening and closing windows, cough etiquette and the habit of expelling phlegm were related to the incidence of pulmonary TB. There is no relationship between lighting levels, residential density, ventilation area, temperature and smoking habits on the incidence of pulmonary TB. The habit of expelling phlegm is the variable that has the most influence on the incidence of pulmonary TB (aPR 7.630 95%CI 1.991-29.242).. Conclusion: This research recommends promotion of stone ethics and monitoring of the housing conditions of pulmonary TB sufferers. Abstract

Introduction: . The goal of malaria control in Indonesia is to achieve gradual elimination by 2030, starting from the district/city, provincial, regional, and national levels. The process will begin with elimination assessments for Java and Bali in 2023; Sumatra, Nusa Tenggara Barat (NTB), and Sulawesi in 2025; Kalimantan and Maluku Utara in 2027; Nusa Tenggara Timur (NTT) and Maluku in 2028; Papua Barat and Papua in 2029; with national elimination certification expected by 2030 Objective: . This study aims to understand the inputs, activities, and outputs conducted by South Sorong District in maintaining malaria elimination Method: The method used is a qualitative approach with interviews conducted with nine informants, including healthcare workers and community members. Result: The results of this study indicate that in South Sorong District, trained healthcare workers and cross-professional collaboration play a crucial role in malaria elimination, despite limited numbers and funding from APBN, APBD, and the Global Fund. The Bela Kampung program raises community awareness, supported by routine monitoring and control activities such as blood surveys and the distribution of insecticide-treated nets. The district has successfully maintained its malaria elimination status despite challenges such as community dishonesty and budget constraints. Optimizing community awareness, cross-sector collaboration, the commitment of the regent, and program innovation help address these challenges. Conclusion: The study recommends increasing the number of healthcare workers and strengthening cross-sector collaboration to maintain malaria elimination in South Sorong District. Additionally, increasing funding and ongoing support from the local government are necessary.

Abstract

Elementary school-age children often lack knowledge about dental and oral hygiene, leading to neglect in maintaining their health. To address this, engaging health promotion media, such as comics, can be utilized to enhance their understanding. This quasi-experimental study employed a two-group pre-test-post-test design with 87 elementary school students, divided into an experimental group (educated using comics) and a control group (educated using leaflets). A 20-question questionnaire assessed knowledge levels before and after the intervention. Results showed an increase in knowledge in both groups, with a significantly higher improvement in the comic group compared to the leaflet group. Unpaired T-test analysis confirmed a statistically significant difference (p=0.000, p0.05), indicating that comics are more effective than leaflets in enhancing dental health knowledge. The study concludes that comic-based health promotion significantly improves oral hygiene awareness among elementary school children, suggesting its potential as an effective educational tool.

Abstract

Background: Management of puskesmas is critical to providing quality health services through effective planning, organising, implementing, and controlling. Improving the quality of health services builds patient trust. The Healthy Indonesia Programme aims to improve services at first level health facilities, including puskesmas, but many still do not meet quality standards. This study evaluates the management cycle of puskesmas at the South Sorong District health office. Objectives: This study aims to analyse the evaluation of the implementation of the puskesmas management cycle at the South Sorong District Health Office. Methods: A qualitative approach was used with informants from four puskesmas: Teminabuan, Konda, Kokoda, and Kais Darat, representing 16 puskesmas in the region. Results: Some puskesmas follow the planning stages involving mini-workshops and Introspection Survey data, but not consistently. There were challenges maintaining the monthly mini-workshop schedule and using the monthly work programme plan results. Monitoring processes were not always optimal, with most responsibility falling on the head of the puskesmas and administrative staff, while the role of the programme focal point was not fully maximised. Conclusion: puskesmas should improve the consistency, quality, and effectiveness of management through increased managerial competence, efficient budget management, and optimisation of planning, implementation, and monitoring processes.

Abstract

Background: Drug availability at Puskesmas (Community Health Centers) is essential for delivering quality public health services. Multiple factors such as the roles of doctors, pharmaceutical personnel, patients, and drug distributors are thought to influence this availability. Objectives: This study aimed to analyze the determinants affecting drug availability at Puskesmas in South Sorong Regency in 2024. Methods: A quantitative approach was used, with data analyzed through statistical tests including the T-test, F-test, and coefficient of determination to assess both partial and simultaneous effects of the independent variables. Results: The analysis revealed that there were no significant partial or simultaneous effects of the roles of doctors, pharmaceutical personnel, patients, and drug distributors on drug availability (p > 0.05). The coefficient of determination (R²) was 0.153, indicating that only 15.3% of the variation in drug availability could be explained by these factors. Conclusions: The study concludes that the roles of doctors, pharmaceutical personnel, patients, and drug distributors have no significant influence on drug availability at Puskesmas in South Sorong Regency. The low coefficient of determination suggests that other unexamined factors may play a more dominant role in determining drug availability in these health facilities.

Abstract

Pulmonary tuberculosis (TB) remains a persistent public health challenge globally, with Indonesia ranking among the highest burden countries. In regions such as Southwest Papua, the incidence of TB is strongly influenced by cultural practices and daily behavioral patterns, yet limited studies have explored this dimension. This study aimed to analyze behavioral factors related to pulmonary TB incidence in Teminabuan, Indonesia, focusing on ventilation practices, cough etiquette, sputum disposal, smoking, and betel nut chewing. A cross-sectional design was conducted from May to June 2024 involving 97 respondents, consisting of families and neighbors of TB patients, selected through purposive sampling. The majority of participants were indigenous Papuans (76.29%), with 44.33% consuming betel nut and 43.33% spitting indiscriminately. Bivariate analysis showed that poor ventilation, inadequate cough etiquette, and indiscriminate spitting were significantly associated with TB incidence (p < 0.05). Among these, indiscriminate spitting was the most influential factor (PR = 0.421; 95% CI: 0.194–0.648). Smoking showed no significant association, while betel nut chewing, often accompanied by spitting, was found to increase TB transmission risk. These findings underscore the urgent need for culturally sensitive interventions that address traditional practices, while promoting the principle of cleanliness as part of faith in Islam, thereby strengthening family health protection and TB control efforts.
