Abstract

Background: The transition from conventional face-to-face learning to online learning during the pandemic triggered stress in nursing students, which ultimately led to sleep disorders. Fear and anxiety due to uncertain situations also contribute to low-quality sleep among them. Objective: This study aims to determine factors related to sleep quality in nursing students during the pandemic. Method: This research was an analytical observational study with a cross-sectional design. A purposive sampling technique was applied to select 422 nursing students as research participants. In this study, sleep quality was a variable. We used the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index questionnaire to measure the sleep quality of nursing students. We used univariate tests to describe nursing students' characteristics, and multivariate tests with multiple regression were used to identify the factors influencing sleep quality. Results: Based on the research characteristics, the majority (94.1%) of respondents were aged 15–25, 79.1% were female, and 40.7% had nursing education. The data analysis results showed that most nursing students in Bali have poor sleep quality (97.45%). This study found that the risk factors influencing sleep quality include gender, students studying and working, anxiety, drinking coffee and soda, and noisy environments (R square 27%, F=10.236). Conclusion: These findings will provide sufficient health promotion activity strategies to improve sleep quality among nursing students. Health education involves reducing habits that can improve poor sleep quality. Keywords: nursing student; online learning; sleep quality; Bali; Indonesia

Abstract

Background: Elderly individuals with uncontrolled high blood pressure are at high risk for developing complications. One of the prevention efforts for hypertension complications is regular blood pressure monitoring. Blood pressure control and prevention of hypertension complications are influenced by several factors, including the patient's knowledge of hypertension and dietary patterns. Through understanding, early detection, and appropriate treatment, elderly individuals can manage and prevent serious complications that may arise. Methods: The activity implementation stage includes preparation of facilities and equipment, followed by health education using educational video media and leaflets. The activity was held in one session. The target audience for this activity was elderly individuals, both independent and assisted, aged 45 years and older. Evaluation was conducted using pre- and post-tests. Results: The activity was carried out at Wantilan, Desa Guwang, with the attendance of 30 elderly individuals from the local elderly group in the village. The activity began with elderly exercise, followed by health education through an educational video and leaflet distribution. The pre-test and post-test results showed a significant improvement in the elderly's knowledge about hypertension. The elderly demonstrated a better understanding of hypertension, including the definition of normal blood pressure, how to measure blood pressure, and the importance of a healthy lifestyle to control hypertension. Conclusion: Health education is crucial in controlling hypertension in the elderly. With accurate knowledge about hypertension, the elderly become more confident in taking preventive actions. Increased independence has a positive impact on physical, mental, and emotional aspects, which helps the elderly feel more optimistic and have a better quality of life.

Abstract

The objective of this research is to develop an Internet of Things (IoT)-based temperature, humidity, and fire detection control system to monitor server rooms at INSTIKI. The research methodology employed involved the collection of primary data through interviews and observations, as well as secondary data through a comprehensive literature review. The system is implemented using a variety of electronic components, including the NodeMCU ESP32, the DHT22 sensor, the MQ2 gas sensor, the KY-026 flame sensor, the PZEM-004t sensor, the infrared emitter LED, the 20x4 I2C LCD, the buzzer, the 5V modules adapters, the step-down modules, and the SIM800l modules. The findings of this study illustrate that the devised system is effective in monitoring temperature, humidity, smoke, fire, and electricity in the INSTIKI server room. The monitoring data is displayed via a web platform, while warning notifications are sent via SMS and Telegram in the event of dangerous situations, resulting in a 100% success rate for notification delivery. The testing of the air conditioning temperature controls using SMS also achieved a 100% success rate. However, the efficacy of the IR Remote is contingent upon the distance and position of the Infrared Emitter LED in relation to the AC's receiver sensors, as well as the quality of the signal received by the GSM800l module.

Abstract

Background: Aging leads to physical deterioration, which makes the elderly dependent on others for daily activities. One way to increase their independence is through physical activities such as elderly gymnastics. Regular participation in elderly gymnastics can restore physical function, improve joint, muscle, and movement coordination, and enhance heart function, leading to a healthier and fitter body. Method: The program began with a preparation stage, followed by elderly gymnastics training and counseling. This activity took place in one session, targeting both independent and assisted elderly individuals. The elderly gymnastics included basic exercises with a warm-up, core movements, and cooling down, lasting approximately 15-30 minutes. Afterward, an evaluation of the activity was conducted. Results: A total of 60 elderly individuals participated in the gymnastics session, which included warm-up, core, and cooling exercises. The participants appeared enthusiastic and easily followed the movements, especially with music accompaniment. However, some had difficulty with foot movements due to balance issues. After the gymnastics session, counseling was provided on the importance of doing elderly gymnastics independently. The elderly were very engaged during the counseling and asked several questions afterward. Conclusion: Elderly gymnastics can be incorporated as a routine activity in elderly health programs like posyandu, helping the elderly become more independent with a healthy and fit body. Regular participation in these exercises can improve their ability to perform daily activities independently.

Abstract

Background: Older adults are vulnerable to various physical and mental health problems, including degenerative diseases, stress, anxiety, mild depression, loneliness, and cognitive decline. This condition highlights the importance of a holistic approach in elderly health care. The Elderly Posyandu Program in Guwang Village has so far focused mainly on physical health, while mental health has received less attention. Methods: The program was carried out through training for cadres, covering elderly mental health, emotional support strategies, and the practice of Yoga Bali Marga Rahayu as a culturally based relaxation method. Evaluation was conducted using pre-tests, post-tests, and field practice. Results: The pre-test showed that 60% of cadres only understood physical aspects, with an average score of 68%. After the training, the average score increased to 90%, with 90% of cadres able to explain the material and 100% reporting confidence in assisting the elderly. Program implementation showed that 86 elderly participants (91%) attended and enthusiastically engaged in yoga. Mental health education also successfully raised awareness among the elderly to reduce stress, avoid loneliness, and strengthen spirituality. Conclusion: Community health cadre training based on local wisdom effectively improved cadres’ capacity and had a positive impact on the quality of life of the elderly. This approach can serve as a community empowerment model to support elderly mental health holistically.
