Abstract

This article examines Surah Yasin verse 80 from the perspective of the Qur'an and science, focusing on the concept of fire formation from green wood. The study aims to identify the alignment between the interpretation of the verse and modern scientific knowledge regarding the combustion process and the chemical reactions that occur when wood burns. The analysis method employed includes a literature review of the Qur'an, as well as a review of scientific literature related to the physical and chemical properties of green wood. The findings indicate that although the verse was revealed in a different historical context, there is a strong relevance to scientific principles explaining the combustion process. This discovery not only reinforces the spiritual understanding of the sacred text but also demonstrates that science and religious teachings can complement each other. This research is expected to provide new insights for readers regarding the relationship between religious texts and science, as well as encourage further discussion on their integration in the context of education and research.

Abstract

In Indonesia, the issue of cyberbullying has become a serious concern, with UNICEF data showing that 45 percent of 2,777 young people aged 14 to 24 surveyed reported having experienced cyberbullying. This study provides practical solutions from the Qur'an to address the psychological impacts of cyberbullying, analyzed through a Stoic approach to facilitate understanding of the Qur'anic teachings. The research uses a library research approach with a qualitative descriptive method, aimed at providing an in-depth explanation of the subject matter. Primary data is obtained from tafsir books, while secondary data includes books, journals, and related articles. Data collection techniques employ the maudhu'i (thematic) method. The research findings suggest that the Qur'an provides solutions through prayers for protection to Allah, trust in Him (tawakal), and patience as responses to such behavior. Stoic philosophy views this Qur'anic solution as highly relevant due to its rational approach in dealing with cyberbullying. Furthermore, Stoicism emphasizes that through the application of these principles, individuals can not only overcome cyberbullying but also strengthen their character and become more resilient, wise, and better individuals overall.

Abstract

The Qur’an contains around 32 verses that discuss the sea, ocean, coast, estuary, and various other aquatic elements. This fact is truly astonishing, considering that the holy book was revealed in a desert region far from the sea, and there are no records indicating that any revelation occurred in the middle of the ocean. One of the extraordinary phenomena revealed in the Qur’an is the meeting of two seas that do not mix with each other. Even before modern science discovered it, the Qur’an had already disclosed the existence of this phenomenon. Interestingly, the existence of these two distinct bodies of water was only identified in modern times, and to this day, the phenomenon continues. Research in modern physics and chemistry has confirmed the reality of this natural event as described in the Qur’an. These findings further affirm that the information contained in the Qur’an hundreds of years ago aligns with the results of contemporary scientific research. Thus, the verse discussing the meeting of two seas not only illustrates a natural wonder but also demonstrates that there is no contradiction between science and the Qur’an Keywords: Al-Qur’an, Sea, Scientific

Abstract

This study explores the role and moral responsibility of human senses in receiving information, based on the perspective of the Qur’an, particularly Surah Al-Isra’ verse 36. Employing a qualitative, library-based research method, this paper integrates Islamic epistemology and cognitive science to examine how sensory faculties such as hearing, sight, and the heart (understood as the locus of reasoning and perception) are considered divine trusts that will be held accountable. The Qur’anic directive underscores the imperative of verification (tabayyun) and intellectual responsibility in processing information, especially amidst the challenges of misinformation in the digital age. Drawing from the scientific exegeses of contemporary scholars like Shaykh Tantawi Jauhari, Prof. Dr. Zaghlul An-Najjar, and Prof. Dr. Abdul Karim Bazyar, this research highlights the Qur’anic alignment with empirical and rational inquiry, emphasizing observation, analysis, and accountability as core principles of knowledge acquisition. Furthermore, the study analyzes the concept of sensory epistemology in both Islamic and scientific discourses, stressing the ethical dimension of sensory use. The findings affirm that Islam not only recognizes the biological function of the senses but also their moral and spiritual implications, making ethical information management a key component of Islamic ethics. This study concludes that responsible utilization of sensory faculties is essential in cultivating a knowledgeable, discerning, and morally conscious society.

Abstract

This study explores the integration of the Qur'anic interpretation (tafsir) and modern astronomy in understanding the sun’s role as described in the Qur’an. The sun, classified as a star, sustains life on Earth through nuclear fusion, influences climate, and governs celestial mechanics. The Qur’an uses distinct terms such as siraj (lamp), dhiya’ (blinding light), and nur (reflected light) to highlight the sun’s unique characteristics compared to other celestial bodies. These descriptions align with scientific findings, including the sun’s self-generated energy, gravitational role in the solar system, and its function in determining religious practices like prayer and fasting. Previous studies confirm the Qur’an’s alignment with astronomical discoveries, emphasizing the need for interdisciplinary integration to deepen both spiritual and scientific comprehension. This research employs qualitative-descriptive methods through library research, analyzing tafsir literature and scientific data to demonstrate the harmony between divine revelation and empirical science. The findings underscore the sun’s cosmological and theological significance, reinforcing the Qur’an’s timeless relevance in explaining natural phenomena.

Abstract

The environmental crisis caused by poor waste management has become a major issue in Banjarmasin City, South Kalimantan, particularly following the closure of the Basirih Final Waste Processing Site (TPAS). This study aims to examine the meaning of Surah Ar-Rum verse 41 and contextualize it with the ecological damage resulting from waste issues in Banjarmasin. The research uses a qualitative-descriptive approach based on library research, with the verse analyzed through three Nusantara (Indonesian) interpretations: Tafsir al-Mishbah, Tafsir al-Azhar, and the interpretation by the Indonesian Ministry of Religious Affairs. The findings reveal that the term fasād in the verse reflects various forms of damage like physical, moral, and spiritual caused by human actions. The local context of Banjarmasin shows the real impact of the waste crisis, both on land and in rivers, aligning with the verse’s meaning. The analysis is carried out through three perspectives: ecological, sociological, and theological. Ecologically, Islam calls for responsibility in preserving the environment. Sociologically, the low level of public awareness is the main cause of the problem. Theologically, this destruction serves as a divine warning for humans to return to the right path. This study asserts that waste management in Islam is not merely a technical issue but a form of spiritual responsibility as stewards (khalifah) on Earth. Solutions to the waste crisis must involve collaboration between the government, religious leaders, and the community, based on faith awareness and Qur’anic values

Abstract

The discourse on human rights and gender equality has become a major theme in contemporary religious and social studies. This research explores the representation of human dignity and gender justice values in the Qur’an as a normative Islamic ethical foundation for human rights. Employing a thematic exegesis (maudhū‘ī) method combined with critical hermeneutics and a contextual-interpretative approach, this study systematically analyzes relevant Qur’anic verses to uncover meanings aligned with modern social ethics. It also critically compares the perspectives of scholars such as Abdullahi An-Na'im, Amina Wadud, and Fazlur Rahman in integrating human rights into Islamic theology. The findings reveal that the Qur’an strongly upholds the principles of universal justice, protection of human dignity, freedom of belief, and gender equality, emphasizing piety and social accountability. This study contributes a constructive Qur’anic synthesis that offers inclusive and progressive interpretations relevant to current debates on social and gender justice.

Abstract

This study examines the concept of water as the source of life in the Qur'an through an interdisciplinary approach that integrates thematic exegesis with scientific perspectives from hydrology. The research focuses on identifying and analyzing Qur'anic verses that describe the stages of the hydrological cycle—including evaporation, condensation, precipitation, infiltration, and surface runoff—and correlating them with contemporary scientific understandings of the Earth's water systems. The findings reveal a significant correlation between the Qur'anic portrayal of water and the fundamental principles of hydrological science. This correlation not only demonstrates the coherence between divine revelation and empirical knowledge but also underscores the potential of religious texts to provide normative foundations for ecological ethics. The study is significant in that it positions the Qur'an as a valuable source for shaping sustainable water management paradigms while enriching thematic Qur'anic exegesis through a more contextual and environmentally responsive interpretive framework

Abstract

Abstract Stars are one of the celestial objects that are of interest in modern cosmology and in sacred texts, including the Qur'an. One of the depictions of stars in the Qur'an is in Q.S. Aṭ-Ṭāriq verses 1-3, which mentions the term an-Najm ats-Tsāqib, namely "bright star". This study aims to explore the meaning of an-Najm ats-Tsāqib through a scientific interpretation approach and relate it to the findings of modern cosmology. The method used is qualitative research based on literature studies. Data were obtained from classical interpretation sources and contemporary cosmological literature. The results of the study show that classical interpreters understand an-Najm ats-Tsāqib as a star that shines brightly and penetrates the darkness of the night. In a modern scientific perspective, this term is correlated with the phenomenon of astronomical objects such as neutron stars or pulsars that have intense radiation characteristics. This research shows that there is harmony in meaning between the signs of the Qur'an and the discoveries of modern cosmology, while also confirming that the Qur'an contains scientific guidance that is relevant for all time.
