Abstract

The qualitative descriptive method was used by the researcher in this study. The term "qualitative descriptive research" refers to a survey study that determined and described the use of a collaborative writing strategy in teaching composition. The study's objectives are to learn how the teacher uses the collaborative writing strategy in teaching composition in a public junior high school, as well as the students' reactions to the strategies used by the teacher in teaching writing in a public junior high school. The teachers and students of UPT SMP Negeri 6 Makassar's ninth grade were the study's subjects. As a result, the researcher chose one of the two teachers at this school who could use Microsoft 365 and two classes, BI.2 and 9. A, as the subjects of the study. According to the findings, the English teacher at UPT SMP Negeri 6 Makassar frequently employs three of five strategies, including horizontal division parallel writing, stratified division parallel writing, and reactive writing strategy. Furthermore, the researcher discovered that students' responses to the strategies that the teacher implemented in teaching writing of collaborative writing gave a positive response toward the collaborative writing strategy that the teacher used, and students' responses to the strategies that the teacher implemented in teaching writing tend to prefer groups in the form of group discussions rather than writing alone because they cannot exchange information and understanding. Because the students' background knowledge is still insufficient, the researcher discovered that group single author writing and sequential single writing are rarely used by the teacher during the research process.

Abstract

Students in vocational higher education, particularly in tourism studies, often face challenges in comprehending English texts related to their field, such as brochures, menus, and service dialogues. This issue hinders their ability to engage in global communication and meet the professional demands of the tourism industry. This study aims to explore the implementation of Collaborative Strategic Reading (CSR) as an instructional strategy to enhance English language skills specifically reading comprehension, vocabulary development, and critical thinking in an English for Specific Purposes (ESP) context at Makassar Tourism Polytechnic. A qualitative descriptive method was employed, involving classroom observations, semi-structured interviews with students and lecturers, and document analysis. The findings indicate that CSR, through its four stages preview, Click and Clunk, Get the Gist, and Wrap Up effectively improved student engagement and comprehension of tourism-related texts. Students showed greater confidence in interpreting and summarizing English materials, while classroom interaction became more collaborative and student-centered. Document analysis also revealed more concise and focused student assignments, reflecting improved understanding and application of reading strategies. The study concludes that CSR is an effective and relevant approach to teaching English in tourism education, as it supports both linguistic and interpersonal skill development. The implication of this research suggests that integrating CSR into ESP curricula can better prepare tourism students for real-world communication tasks and professional interactions in international settings, ultimately enhancing their readiness for careers in the rapidly expanding global tourism industry.

What is meant by "qualitative descriptive research" is survey research that determines and explains the use of the strategy for implementing the Makassar State Tourism Polytechnic. Results/Findings In general, it can be said that the results of research related to the implementation of edupreunership through teaching factories show the commitment of vocational institutions or tertiary institutions to edupreneurship learning. This is evidenced by the empowerment of entrepreneurship aimed at all levels, this fact proves that entrepreneurship subjects have strategic meaning for students and institutions. Implications The conclusion highlights that while schools aim to align with edupreneurship through teaching factories, they face challenges in synchronizing with business and industry practices. These hurdles include deficiencies in work culture adherence, teaching staff's unfamiliarity with industry standards, unmet infrastructure benchmarks, universities' insufficient collaboration with industry entities, and regulatory constraints imposing the use of state assets for revenue generation
