Abstract

This research aims to elaborate on modern Western feminist thinking regarding the role of mothers in the context of gender inequality and social pressure, and identify how this thinking develops along with changes in modern society. The research method uses concept analysis to understand the role of mothers in relevant Western feminist writings and compares it with Islamic educational perspectives. The research results show that Western feminists criticize the traditional concept of motherhood which is considered to burden women with a double burden due to structured gender inequality. In addition, this research found that from an Islamic education perspective, the mother's role in the family is considered very important and of high value, both in spiritual and moral aspects. The conclusions of this study indicate that the application of a Western feminist perspective has the potential to reduce the role of mothers in children's education. The secular paradigm behind Western feminism tends to assess mother's childcare based on materialistic aspects, thus ignoring the spiritual dimensions and values that are considered important in the Islamic view.
